Not sure what has happened but I completely restored my system with a new install three weeks ago. Reinstalled all applications etc. 50% of my C Drive was free space. Three weeks later I get a message stating Im low on disc space and down to about 11% free. I am totally confused. Did not install new programs, pictures, music etc. Seems like it just happend to itself.
View 5 RepliesI recently deleted a Windows Self-Extracting EXE file from one of my partitions. The file has been deleted, but the disk space hasn't been recovered. This has happened to on numerous occasions in the past and I can't seem to find the cause of this.
I have Windows XP professional installed on my PC. I am working in VB.net. But the problem whic I am facing is that : My c drive space is decreasing automatically day by day. I am not finding the answer. It has reahed almost 700Mb to. I am doing a project now. In that situation i cannot format my PC. If there is any way to prevent it. It may be due wndows restoration point. Windows Xp may keep backups of my everyday jobs. But where can I find those backup files, and remove them and can recover my Hard Disk Drive space.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI don't get it. the more i go on, the more and more disk space seems to vanish into thin air. xp usually takes a couple of gigs up on the hard disk, right? maybe 5 gigs at the very most. i've got 8 gigs taken up by videos in one folder. the programs i've got installed are negligable. the program files folder is 500mb. and yet my disk only has 20 gigs spare on a 40 gig hard disk. i've looked in every folder on the hard disk and i simply can't find any folders with anything of any great size in it. i've defragged the hard drive.

The primary C drive has the OS on it and it is only about 14GB, and my entire disk is about 50GB, the unallocated space is about 34 GB. I have tried to expand the primary partition unsuccessfully. Do I have to reload the entire OS ? I do not have the origional disk to reload the OS. It is a sony PCG-CRT160 computer with 500 mb ram and approximately a 50 GB primary drive that was partitioned when I got it.

Maybe I should not have it checked to create a back up each time it is run? Also should I run a hijack this report because of CPU usage or are they even related. View 13 Replies View RelatedI was capturing digital video from camcorder and after compressing and burning it to DVD, deleted this file of 12GB size, since it is bigger in size it was not even shown in Recycle bin and whole space occupied by this file never recoved. After this incident a 6GB file from digital video capture happend exactly similar way. So in essence 18GB space is gone somewhere without any clue. Later tried running Norton tools and file system check, but no use. None of these able to detect this file. Searching the files of the same name(assuming misplaced somewhere) returned empty list and recyle bin is also empty. Also tried looking for big size file in C:WINDOWSTemp but no use.

Only NTFS partions can have files with file size more than 4GB..i hope theres nothing wrong with my windows or my hard disk..and i wanna know if theres a way to move that ISO image..thanx in advance.
Hello everyone. I am currently using Windows XP SP2 on a Thinkpad T43 laptop. My main partition which houses windows xp is 34 GB total size. When I highlight the C: drive in "My Computer", it tells me that I have 10GB of free space (therefore I'm using 24GB). When, however, I double click on C: and go into that folder, select all (and yes, I have enabled viewing hidden files/folders), right-click and choose properties, I am then told that C: only contains 15GB of files/folders. Where is this missing 5GB?

Ive noticed my computer has also been running slower than usual. Maybe half a year ago I came here with the same problem, and someone (forget the name, sorry) posted a link to a program somebody made that clears your disk space up for you. It deleted old unused files, and it worked great. You sort of just clicked on the link on the site, a box came up, and you checked off what you needed to be cleared, and then the program fixed it for you.

Last week i installed windows XP Pro on my desktop. It has a 250GB hard drive which has 1 partition (C drive only), NTFS offcourse. I did not format it while installing windows as it has lots of stuff in it. There's over 50GB free and i�ve been removing a lot of stuff from the hard drive to make up some space but in windows i get an error message that i don't have enough disk space, the disk cleanup utility runs cant free up space and i can not install or copy anything in the hard drive. I've noticed that when i deleted some file holding (or not) the shift key the free size goes lower although the files are being deleted from the hard disk.

I got to the point on the install where it highlighted the good partition and I hit "L" to erase it. At that point I stopped and tried a repair from the XP Home disk but no luck. The C drive had winxp pro and my programs on it and the D drive was my storage drive for all my music and important files. I decided to reinstall winXP on my C drive and it kept giving me problems so I decided to install Linux Fedora on it instead. I am getting an external drive in a couple of days and figured I'd just reinstall winXP on the C drive and remove fedora when it got here then move my music and data from the D drive to the external. Then I would reformat both C and D drives and sell them. When looking in the case I mistook one for the other and reformatted my secondary D drive, then installed fedora Core onto it. During install I instructed it to remove all OS's and reformat everything. I had about 28 gigs of data and fedora core is only .5 gigs or so. Can I set the C drive as primary again and plug in the D drive as secondary then from disk management change the D drive back to a windows format like NFTS or what ever and then run some program to get my data back?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI installed 'Virtual CD 5.0.6' on my desktop I installed 10 virtual drives (labelled drive G to P inclusive) I have an external hard drive (labelled 'Local Disk: L) which was turned off when i installed Virtual CD.When i turned on the external HD it did not show in My Computer (presumably because i had allocated drive L as a virtual drive I have uninstalled Virtual CD (and all 10 virtual drives) but still do not get my External HD icon showing in 'My Computer'When i go into device manager the Maxtor External HD is showing. Computer has been really low on disk space for a long time. ATF Cleaner IT worked great, took off all temp files and such, all useless stuff that stays on your computer.
I've tried a disk cleanup that apears when space is low but it does pretty much nothing. I only have a 30G HD, but still, that cant possibly take it all up, I have only 19.3 mb left!
I kept my pc running over night and when I woke up the free space in my drive c(contains os) was 700kb. It had dropped from 8gb. I checked system restore I thought it might have made a backup but that was not the case. I did find though a bunch .sqm files in my c drive. I've heard they can be related to live messenger and operation flashpoint ( a game). I have flashpoints sequel and live messenger. I haven't used either in several days. I did defragment the drive one day before this occurred. Can someone please tell me where all that space has gone to?
