View 14 Replies View RelatedI have my Windows format disc and I want to create another partition with it. I tried to create one, but it said something like "You have no more space to create another partition because you used up all your space on your Windows primary partition". See, when I reformatted my computer a while back I just created 1 partition for Windows and applied all the space onto that partition.
If there is a way I could remove some space off of my Windows primary partition and create another partition with the space I removed. I want to do this so I can put general things in my other partition such as documents, music, etc. and just leave the other partition for Windows and programs.
What are the steps needed to access one of my partitions, delete it, then use 1/2 the space and apply to system drive and the other 1/2 to another partition?

However, Partition Magic 8.01's PartitionInfo report no error on L: drive -- "No partition errors detected".Windows Explorer reports that the L: drive is not formatted. However, PartitionInfo shows it is formatted for FAT32.Is there any way I can fix the problem and get back into my L: drive? If this is not the correct forum, please advise which forum or newsgroup I should pose this question.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI accidentally started to install a new version of XP Home on an existing partition that had a good working XP home on it. I got to the point on the install where it highlighted the good partition and I hit "L" to erase it. At that point I stopped and tried a repair from the XP Home disk but no luck. Since it didn't overwrite it (probably just erased some pointers) is there any way to get back the good partition/OS that was on this disk?

View 8 Replies View RelatedCan anyone please help me? I was reorganising my hard drive and decided to restart all my bitccomet downloads so I could put them in a different place. So I did a windows search for all *.bc! files and deleted them from there. The files were deleted and I can't see them anywhere but my hard drive space stayed absolutely the same. I tried everything, deleting temp files, removing system restore, defragmenting, scandisk, searching for them in system and hidden folders, everything. What else can I do? I tried again with a different program and they didn't show up at all. Can somebody help me please?
I recently tried to update XP home sp1 to XP home sp2. I got the screen with options to startup in safe mode. I then used add/remove programs to uninstall xp2 and return to xp1 but I seemed to have lost a lot of hd space. Does anyone know how to recover my lost space?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI also am having an issue with 100% of CPU usage being used. I have years of backups from using Registry First Aid and wondered if I can delete these. Maybe I should not have it checked to create a back up each time it is run? Also should I run a hijack this report because of CPU usage or are they even related. If someone could send me a link to a list of programs that need to be running maybe I can shut some of them down.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI was capturing digital video from camcorder and after compressing and burning it to DVD, deleted this file of 12GB size, since it is bigger in size it was not even shown in Recycle bin and whole space occupied by this file never recoved. After this incident a 6GB file from digital video capture happend exactly similar way. So in essence 18GB space is gone somewhere without any clue. Later tried running Norton tools and file system check, but no use. None of these able to detect this file. Searching the files of the same name(assuming misplaced somewhere) returned empty list and recyle bin is also empty. Also tried looking for big size file in C:WINDOWSTemp but no use.
View 3 Replies View RelatedWas fixing to re-install windows, and I found I accidentally deleted the partition that was my external drive. I did not install windows, or format it, but when I rebooted windows, I cannot access it. It simply says. this disk is not formatted, would you like to format it now. I know of a way to recover the files, and copy to another disk, but as I am presently out of disk space, is there a way to fix the partition that was deleted. Hoping to do this cheaply. I might spend 15.00 for a program, but am shooting for a simple method

View 9 Replies View RelatedHello everyone. I am currently using Windows XP SP2 on a Thinkpad T43 laptop. My main partition which houses windows xp is 34 GB total size. When I highlight the C: drive in "My Computer", it tells me that I have 10GB of free space (therefore I'm using 24GB). When, however, I double click on C: and go into that folder, select all (and yes, I have enabled viewing hidden files/folders), right-click and choose properties, I am then told that C: only contains 15GB of files/folders. Where is this missing 5GB?

View 19 Replies View RelatedI bought a Seagate 169GB Barracuda Hard drive and set about partitioning it with Partition Magic. Initially I was being advised via phone by a friend in a neighbouring country. I put the Seagate as the Master and my previous Master as the slave. (a Maxtor 30 gb hard drive partitioned into 3. IE ..2 x 4GB and one 22gb partitions.......these were configured C (4gb) had the OS Win 98 SE on it ...E (4GB) was a back up? and F (22gb) was for video files mp3,s etc) I put Partition Magic on C and proceeded to follow directions. To cut a long story short. I got the Seagate successfully formatted.
BUT
I have done something wrong. What happened was the E and F partitions on the Maxtor combined and showed up as unallocated space on Partition magic and Free Space on XP,s Disk management...Naturally I removed it till I got some advice on what to do.... I have since tryed three disk recovery programs and had a certain amount of success with one program .....I note however that from memory all the recovered files /folders are from the 22gb partition and none from the 4gb partition that combined with it.... I still have some options to try but as a beginner I thought it best to see if anybody in the forum with experience in this field could give me their advice so that I can hopefully recover as much as I can..
I'm using XP Home with SP2. When I Look at the properties of the C: drive, it says I have used approx 55GB with 19GB left. The Defrag utility says the same. However, when I look at all the space used in all the directories on C: I appear only to have used about 25GB, which is actually more like what I think I'm using. Can anyone please point me to what might be using up the huge amount of extra space - it's a hell of a lot to go missing and I'd like to retrieve it.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy sole 80 G hard drive had a 15 G FAT 32 partition that is the C drive (partition). My XP Pro SP2 OS is an upgrade from 98, which is why I used FAT32. The balance of the drive is the F drive (partition) is/was formatted as NTFS so I could use it more efficiently in editing video. While using DVD Shrink 3.2 and directing the copy to a folder in F I experienced a lockup. After rebooting I no longer show F. I've tried a sys restore but my only restore point was this morning and that didn't work. When I tried to defrag the hard drive it doesn't show F as it has.
