I have a dual boot computer with two installations of Windows Xp on, one of which is completly unbootable. Is it possible to recover the drivers from my old install of Windows Xp to the new one, without booting into the old one, then use them in the newer installation?
View 6 RepliesI accidentally deleted a partition and later found out that my system is dead....The only way I recover out of that is I reinstall Windows and then install grub again to recover the Linux partition. But I feel the delete partition is a very rapid process just taking seconds and in that I don't think files would be deleted, so I feel potentially I can recover the deleted partitions including the boot partition. But I don't know how to do it. Also now when the boot partition is deleted and the system is not booting up what should be done to recover the system and data?

Well i fear i deleted an essential program on the computer and may have ruined it. I removed the Java runtime environment and each of the updates thinking it wasnt necissary. Is this a critical program? The weird thing is as i was removing parts of it it just kept saying computer must restart to complete the removal of the program, and i selected no each time.. all of the sudden the computer turned off and when rebooting it said invalid boot.ini booting from c:windows
View 10 Replies View RelatedMy SATA hard drive crashed. I was unable to boot to anything but the recovery console from a Win XP setup CD. I couldn't even boot to Safe Mode. I replaced the hard drive and re-installed Windows. This works fine. However, I would like to recover the data on my old HD, which is no longer connected.If I connect the old HD in addition to the new one (using both SATA connections on the motherboard), they are both recognized in BIOS, but I can no longer boot to Windows The system just hangs at a black screen.

I tried to repair the OS (XP Home ed.) and 75 % through it hangs up and says that the repair cannot be completed. I would just assume reformat the drive aqnd do a fresh install but there are a bunch of pictures on there I wanna get first. I am wondering if I can hook up the problematic drive to my other pc which is just fine running XP pro SP2 as a slave and be able to look through the files and copy them to me good computer to burn them on dvd so I won't run into this again. I know there has to be aprogram that allows you to examine files on a hard drive that won't boot or is currupt from a good PC and explore files so as to recover them.

It crashed yesterday and now whenever it boots it give me the following error A disk read error occurred Press ctl alt del to restart.I managed to get to the selection of boot in safe mode, but it still won't boot and then I get I/O error reading boot sector.At this point I just want to get the data off it. If I was to replace Windows Vista with a second copy of Windows Xp, how would I go about copying all of my drivers, settings and so on and so forth ? View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a machine that I am working on that boots into normal mode just fine and appears to run fine, but if I try to boot into any of the safe modes the computer loads all the drivers, starts to display the welcome screen and then reboots. This machine is running Windows XP home upgrade with service pack 2 and all the latest security patches. I have scanned for viruses with Norton Antivirus 2005 that has the latest definitions, and run Micrsoft AntiSpam software that is up to date and found no threats. I hate to do anything drastic as an in place upgrade to try to fix this since it boots in normal mode just fine.

Then, windows wont boot, so i have to go back to a previous one that did boot. Problem is, my boys favourite game, "Star wars knights of the old republic" wont boot. Well, it starts, but then says it has to close. I didnt do a system restore point, and dont know how to roll back the driver to its previous one. A friends HP Media Center PC m7077c crashed. Had no recover disk, etc. Installed XP Pro SP2 and I need drivers (according to Device Manager). No sound is obvious but video controller is not. Video seems okay. Where do I find drivers for this machine. XP Pro, Home and MCE are different OS's ... as far as my experience. The drivers are not the same.

When i installed the graphics card drivers, i tried testing the graphics on a game (counter-strike) but as soon as i got into the game, the pc flashes a blue screen, and reboots. I cant see what the blue screen says because it flashes on and off again to quick for me to read it. I decided to uninstall the graphics card drivers, and the game worked perfectly, but the graphics were REALLY bad. So i thought i might need to update some other drivers, so i tried to install my wireless network card, but when i finished installing the drivers when i had to restart my computer, it flashed the BSOD.... AGAIN! I need help urgently as im going to a LAN gaming comp called "rezidue" and its on in 2 weeks, i need my pc fixed by then! All these problems started when i upgraded my CPU. Everything was running smooth, and i was happily playing along on my computer, when i was asked what my FPS was in counter-strike, and i was all "mine are 65!" and there like "wow that sucks, mines 130" so i set out on my epic quest to get better FPS then everyone else and MAN THAT WAS A MISTAKE. I upgraded from my celeron 2.8ghz cpu to a P4 3.0ghz HT cpu, and thats when things started messing up on me. View 2 Replies View RelatedYesterday whilst on a perfectly safe website i was alerted to a virus which advised it was a downloader and could not be removed, i followed the instructions and assumed it is quarantined, when i tried to restart the laptop this morning it wouldn't boot up, i eventally opted for a full recovery, however, the recovery reaches the end of stage 1 an and shuts down, i have tried this 5 times with the end result. I think i have been conned that my computer wasn't warning of a virus, it was abogus warning and by following the instruction i downloaded a devastating virus that has somehow effected my hard drive.
