View 1 RepliesI got a new computer and I have been having problems with my mouse. I have a simple optical wired mouse. During random times, my mouse click freezes, although my mouse can move and I can use the key board at this time, I cannot click or focus anything. To fix the problem I can control alt delete and exit the Task Manager, this fixes the problem.

Starts/loads fine. Will run fine for days w/ I.E. open, O.E. open=no activity. Upon visiting different internet sites, using, after about 15+ minutes the pointer freezes/no error message/Cont-Alt-Delete provides nothing-can not shut down computer w/ button on CPU , must unplug/restart Several times I have been searching MS for downloads for I.E. -6 (Updates/patches/info) (as in my little mind this is problem) but C. freezes at that point as I click on a link.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI recently removed Norton from both remove programs and from regedit to install AVG Virus Protection and in the process had some malfunctions with the start up. So I ran Windows XP repair and off the disc and it seemed to all work fine. When logging into my desktop, however, the mouse and keyboard now freeze up. I've tried last known configuration during boot, a BIOS hard drive test and still no go.

View 1 Replies View RelatedThrough out the day, I have my computer on. Many times... whether I am using the computer at that moment, or if I leave and come back later... my screen will be frozen. The mouse moves, but nothing on the screen can be clicked. Also, control alt delete works as well, so I have found that if I go into the applications tab and open a new task and open/refresh "explorer" everything will start working again.
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy computer will just freeze out of nowhere, never while in a game, but sometimes while just doing menial tasks in windows, or just idling. By Freezes, I mean, I have one image on my monitor that's it. The mouse doesn't respond, the keyboard doesn't, nothing brings it out of it. It's ridiculous, and I'm tired of rebooting in the middle of something important.I recently found that the SM Bus Controller Drivers aren't installed, and I'm installing those, would that have anything to do with it?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Digital Media Pro Keyboard and an optical mouse. It seems like the PC just freezes by itself. I'm told by the GF that it usually happens when it's just sitting idle. The light on the mouse goes out and the keyboard stops working as well. They are both USB devices. Please check out the hijack log and let me know if there is something going on that I am not seeing,

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have an optical mouse on a Dell 8400 running x/p pro. The last two weeks my mouse keeps freezing for no apparent reason. I keep hearing my machine make the tone that it uses for a usb device to be plugged and unplugged through out the day for no reason, and the usb mouse just either responds erratically or freezes altogether. I then need to unplug and replug it to make it function again.
I have already tried virus scans, with no result, updated the bios, and received a usb driver hotfix from microsoft, but non of these have remedied the issue. This is a new issue on a 2 year old machine so I can only deduce there is some type of virus or worm running that I can't locate.I have already tried the mouse on another machine it functions correctly, and it is clean, with no optical issues.

View 2 Replies View RelatedA LG netbook turned it on and the cursor is just stuck there in the middle of the screen. I don't use a mouse, just the touchpad, so I can't even attempt to do anything. Everything else seems to be working fine in the background upon boot up and on the desktop, but the cursor won't budge. Tried to open control panel but obviously can't do that with the cursor stuck. Any options the DON'T involve me having to buy a new USB mouse

View 3 Replies View RelatedThis evening I was using my netbook to listen to music offline, which was working perfectly well. I then closed the lid, which sent it to sleep, and upon opening it again, everything was going very slowly.
I re-booted the computer, which then took several minutes longer than usual to boot (whilst not booting quickly normally, being a low-powered machine, was a significant length of time longer amounting to around 2 or 3 times longer than normal), and the machine was still incredibly sluggish. It is also now unable to play audio files properly, it plays the first part perfectly coherently and then begins to lag more and more as the media continues. (The same occurs on any video files of any king played in any form)
Niece's netbook (Asus EeePC) running Windows XP has rather suddenly slowed to a real crawl. Think 5 minutes for a right-click menu to open, for example, instead of a split second. Last night I summoned the patience to start up the already-installed AVG virus scanner, and while it took hours and hours, it found zero problems. Ran CCleaner, no change. The desktop, icons, etc. etc. look correct and nothing seems awry except for the intolerable lack of speed. I realize it could still be a virus or malware, although I'm thinking of other explanations as well

View 4 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to make applications start with a higher then usual priority automatically? I routinely run video encoding in the background which will eat up both the cores on my Opty 170. As expected, this makes certain things sluggish to use. But, I wanna make it so the applications that I actively use (Firefox, MSN, and AIM) have an above normal priority.
View 3 Replies View RelatedHi, I have a game to play called Silent Hill 3, when I installed it, and went to load it, it said I require a 32mb Video Card, I thought my computer could support this.
I have custom built many computer systems over the years, but I feel like a new comer when trying to decide what board and chip set to use on a socket 939 system. I have used ASUS extensively and will use ASUS on this system. With all of the various chipsets and motherboards available from ASUS for the socket 939 I have reached to a point of total frustration. The more I research the duller my mind becomes and am asking for some help or suggestions. The computer will be used for research, a lot of it on the web, for graphics work and for preparation of presentations. I am not a gamer, am not interested in gaming, and do not have any games on my PC.
I know that the chipset will basically determine which motherboard to use. I am considering the VIA K8T800 PRO chipset, as the ATI and NVIDA chipsets seem to be more for gamers. Again my mind is awash from researching the various chipsets available for the socket 939 from the different chipset manufacturers, ATI, NVIDA, and VIA. I would like some input on which chipset would be best for general computing? Also, I was thinking about an AGP video card, but after research I feel like AGP is becoming a dinosaur. On the other hand it seems like the only advantage of PCI Express is for gamers especially in a dual configuration. Is there any real advantage of PCI Express over AGP for general computing? Would it be advantageous to go PCI Express over AGP?
We had an Acer Netbook Aspire One crash a couple of weeks ago. We have tried to restore and a varety of other things. The Netbook DOES NOT have a CD drive nor do we have an external CD drive. We have a 1Gig USB stick, We ended up by having to order 2 discs from Acer - 1 to fix the partition and one to fix Windows. How do we make the stick bootable? Would prefer it in simple terms please.

Demension computer, it was purchased about a year and a half ago. I recently
reinstalled Windows on it, and reinstalled the drivers/utilities that were
needed, with the help of a Dell expert. I have Windows XP Home Edition right now. I have the Lavasoft Ad-Aware SE for my spyware protection, and I have the AVG from
Grifsoft for my virus protection. I scan my computer every night, and I keep
all my databases up-to-date. Recently, my computer was infected with the
Trojan Backdoor.SdBot virus, and I looked on the Norton Antiviruses website
to get rid of it and fix the computer. So now, at this time, I believe my
computer is clean.
I can be doing anything, so not even be around the computer and it freezes, could freeze on the screen saver, or when im on hte internet, or playin a game, or writing an email anything.... not an overheating problem because it has happened say right after its done booting, or 5 mins after running or say 12 hours after being on.... or jsut not freeze seems to be really random

View 1 Replies View RelatedWith a lot of help I've been able to fix the Control Panel>Display problem I had earlier. But now I have another problem. I started a new thread because it is a different problem, and because it may be a Viewsonic monitor or ATI screen driver problem rather than a Windows-XP problem. When I have the screen resolution set to 1024*768 the desktop fits neatly into the monitor. When I tried it at 1280*720 the desktop fits neatly into the monitor, but the graphics and text look as though they are stretched vertically - ie too tall for their width. When I tried it at 1280*768 the proportions looked right, but the desktop seems to have been moved up and to the left. That is, there is about a 2cm black band to the right of the display, between the right edge of the monitor and the right edge of the display; and there is about a 1cm black band below the desktop. When I tried it at 1280*800, just for completeness, the whole desktop seems to overlap the limits of the monitor. That is, the icons on the left are half hidden 'behind' the monitor, and the task bar at the bottom is barely in sight at the bottom edge of the monitor.I don't remember having this problem in the past, but it's been quite a while.
