View 1 RepliesI have an optical mouse on a Dell 8400 running x/p pro. The last two weeks my mouse keeps freezing for no apparent reason. I keep hearing my machine make the tone that it uses for a usb device to be plugged and unplugged through out the day for no reason, and the usb mouse just either responds erratically or freezes altogether. I then need to unplug and replug it to make it function again.
I have already tried virus scans, with no result, updated the bios, and received a usb driver hotfix from microsoft, but non of these have remedied the issue. This is a new issue on a 2 year old machine so I can only deduce there is some type of virus or worm running that I can't locate.I have already tried the mouse on another machine it functions correctly, and it is clean, with no optical issues.
I recently removed Norton from both remove programs and from regedit to install AVG Virus Protection and in the process had some malfunctions with the start up. So I ran Windows XP repair and off the disc and it seemed to all work fine. When logging into my desktop, however, the mouse and keyboard now freeze up. I've tried last known configuration during boot, a BIOS hard drive test and still no go.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI got a new computer and I have been having problems with my mouse. I have a simple optical wired mouse. During random times, my mouse click freezes, although my mouse can move and I can use the key board at this time, I cannot click or focus anything. To fix the problem I can control alt delete and exit the Task Manager, this fixes the problem.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI start my computer in normal mode and it starts loading fine.when it gets to the desktop the mouse icon moves but it doesn't allow me to click on anything. No response from the keyboard.Ctrl – Alt-Del doesn't work.I think it gets hung up in the boot ( possibly loading drivers?)I have rebooted several times with the same results. Starting in Safe mode everything works OK. When starting in safe mode it lists various drivers as it progresses; I don't know how many there should be – or if this is any help because safe mode works OK.

Everything was detected properly and I encountered no problems. But when I got home again I wanted to boot into Windows XP Pro and that's where the problems started.
View 7 Replies View RelatedMy computer freezes up. No keyboard, mouse, ect. The mouse arrow disappears. I have to "power off" the computer to get things working. Now here is the strange thing, if i move the mouse around "quickly" the computer will work OK. This is on a new install of Windows XP + sp1. If I am moving the mouse slowing as in solitare the system will lock up in about 10 mn

The msconfig screen opens but as soon as I move my mouse the entire box just leaves the screen. Regedit is doing the same thing. Cannot find any information on this in the Microsoft Knowledge Base.

View 1 Replies View RelatedThrough out the day, I have my computer on. Many times... whether I am using the computer at that moment, or if I leave and come back later... my screen will be frozen. The mouse moves, but nothing on the screen can be clicked. Also, control alt delete works as well, so I have found that if I go into the applications tab and open a new task and open/refresh "explorer" everything will start working again.
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy computer will just freeze out of nowhere, never while in a game, but sometimes while just doing menial tasks in windows, or just idling. By Freezes, I mean, I have one image on my monitor that's it. The mouse doesn't respond, the keyboard doesn't, nothing brings it out of it. It's ridiculous, and I'm tired of rebooting in the middle of something important.I recently found that the SM Bus Controller Drivers aren't installed, and I'm installing those, would that have anything to do with it?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Digital Media Pro Keyboard and an optical mouse. It seems like the PC just freezes by itself. I'm told by the GF that it usually happens when it's just sitting idle. The light on the mouse goes out and the keyboard stops working as well. They are both USB devices. Please check out the hijack log and let me know if there is something going on that I am not seeing,

View 9 Replies View RelatedThe problem is it takes an incredibly long time to startup because of these, once we close them it gets back to running fast, but until then we have to wait for them to open. I think it's causing the problem because we didn't have this problem until we installed this. How do I make it stop starting up on Windows XP? I sped up my startup on my computer by stopping useless things from running.
View 4 Replies View RelatedWhen I open Windows XP, the Windows Icon page comes up with a traveling bar on the bottom of the screen. This bar runs forty or fifty times before the computer actually brings up my desk screen. This seems to be an inordinate amount of time.
View 14 Replies View RelatedThe past few days I've been having issues with my desktop where when I turn it on, it runs through BIOS, and then begins to boot windows xp, but after maybe 10-15 seconds of loading windows xp, the loading bar beneath the Windows XP logo (it has three little blue boxes that move from left to right) will just stop moving. If I reset the computer it then asks to go into normal booting, or safe mode, safe mode booting always works but even when I system restore it doesnt seem to work. Out of maybe 50 times where the loading bar has crashed, its only properly loaded about two or three times.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm using Windows XP SP2 on this computer, and last night the computer froze while waking up (I don't "shut down" every time, i hibernate the system). I restarted and windows froze again on the startup screen. I restarted in safe mode and ran a disk check (scheduled it for next restart). The system booted up after the disk check completed (it said it found and fixed errors). However, it was dead slow,. I have avira antivir personal(updated with the latest definitions), I ran a full system scan, and it found nothing but a "hidden object". Here's the report:-

View 2 Replies View RelatedI can't make a good MS-DOS startup disk (for BIOS flashing) from XP SP2.I select the "Make an MS-DOS startup disk" from the Format dialog.Sometimes it gives up without a warning (i.e. the progress bar resets itself and the "Start" button goes active again). Sometimes it completes with a success message. However the disks never boot. I get the following messages from the BIOS (abbreviated a bit!): Looking for boot record on floppy... OK I've tried with a least 7 different floppy disks, all with the same result. Does anyone have any idea what I can do to get it to work? I've also tried to make a MS-DOS boot disk on a Windows 2000 machine by downloading some freeware, but this does not work. I think the floppy drive is OK because I can boot from a Linux floppy disk (memtest86).

View 6 Replies View RelatedI bought a computer years ago that had Windows XP Home preinstalled and of course, it didn't come with a Windows Setup CD. I'm finally at the point where I'd like to do a fresh install. I can't afford to pay my $6 cab fare let alone $100 or more on an OS I already own and everyone I know has Vista. Is there a way to get a free copy of the setup disk, maybe one that's already been used, directly from Microsoft if you can provide proof that you already own a legitimate copy of the OS so you can just use it for the installation part and put in your own license info? If not through Microsoft, what about from the manufacturer, have you known any of them to give you an option like that where they can send you a "dummy disc" or something just so you can reinstall? My PC was made by Systemax.
