Onboard Network Cannot Start (Code 10)

May 28, 2009

After a fresh installation of XP the onboard network card is no longer working with the error message "This device cannot start (Code 10)". I've changed no parts, same process on installation, bios settings are fine, formatted and re-installed to the same error so I was hoping somebody could help me find out what the problem is.I'm using the Gigabyte EP41-UD3L which has the Realtek RTL8168D(P)/8111D(P) as the onboard NIC running Windows XP Pro SP2. I just used the motherboard installation CD to install it initially as I did on the previous install and have also tried new drivers but had no luck. I've never run into this Code 10 error before so I'm not sure where to go from here and any help will be appreciated. The Windows knowledge base isn't much help either as it's explanations for code 10 are.If the device has a FailReasonString value in its hardware key, that string is displayed as the error message. The driver or enumerator puts this registry string value there. If there is no FailReasonString in the hardware key,

Unable To Uninstall Network Adapter (Code 31)

Apr 20, 2004

I have an Intel Network card in a fairly modern computer running Windows XP SP1. Unitil I uninstalled a VPN client I have had no trouble with it. However, after the uninstall, Win XP displays a yellow icon with an exclamation mark for the network card in the device manager and the info says "Code 31 Could not load the drivers for this device".I have tried uninstalling the network adapter (in order to be able to re-install it) but Win XP tells me that it "Failed to uninstall the device. The device may be required to boot up the computer".I have also tried upgrading the drivers for the adapter but the problem prevails. My guess is that the registry somewhere links my network card with a virtual driver that the VPN client used.

Device Cannot Start. (Code 10) With Graphics Card

Jul 14, 2005

Every so often, when I start my computer, the graphics controller does not register correctly and my computer loads some default monitor controller and gives this error that's in the Subject heading. The font turns huge and annoying. I've reloaded, updated, deleted, changed, etc. to the graphics controller. Nothing cures it, except, I was able to do a restore and get it to load correctly. Sometimes it would take a couple of times to do this. Right now, it's on it's 5th time and I'm getting annoyed. It's not working. Does anyone know what I'm talking about?

Aug 8, 2005

I get the mj view error code at start up.I also cannot shut down my computer(i believe the 2 are related) I have to do it manually so I just hibernate.Information was given to me that it could be the ebates moneymaker program installed.I checked for that and do not have it but i do have i give shopping window.Well, I went to remove this program and i cannot. The error code comes back everytime i click "remove"I also successfully removed 2 other unwanted programs so it seems that this program could be the problem. How can I get rid of the error message and this program? This Device Cannot Start Code 10 USB Mass Storage Device

Jul 21, 2005

I've been using a Buslink 40G disk-to-go for about 2 years and love it. Today I plugged it into the USB port and the drive did not display. I've searched forums half the night since this drive contains financial data that hasn't been backed up for a month (yes, bad practice, I know) and I need to get it working. I've uninstalled, reinstalled, updated drivers, removed and reinstalled drivers, rolled back drivers and tried everything short of bios changes I've seen recommended.

NO Network Card Can Start

May 30, 2010

During the day, my internet connection died, actually, my NIC did sort of got error 10.I tried to uninstall and re-install it, and it seems to go back but then I get the error code 10.I installed a new Belkin USB NIC and it installed fine but also returns error code 10. I installed a Hawking USB NIC and it installed Ok, but returns error 10. I installed an old 802.11b SohoWare PCI card, and it installs fine, but returns error 10. I installed a Marvell Yukon 88E8052 PCI-E ASF Gigabit Ethernet Controller and it installed fine, just still get the error 10. I un-installed each NIC that didn't work and re-booted before installing the next. This all sounds like a virus that can attack any network device, as any form of network device fails on error 10.If I didn't have a few computers laying around,I couldn't make this post.I also checked all services between the computers, networking settings, group policies, BIOS settings, etc. to look for something different on the bum machine, but nothing is obvious that caused the one machine to allow a NIC to be installed, but then cannot be used. (I'm running XP-Pro, SP2)

Computer Asking For Network Login To Start?

Feb 28, 2008

I took the laptop home and tried to set it up on my home network. It had mapped network drives and the login still came up under the company domain. In the System settings, I changed it from being a "Computer primarily used in an office or work environment" to a "Computer primarily used in a home office environment". Now when it starts up, the domain is gone and I can't log in to the computer. It was under his work username and password, and it NO LONGER ACCEPTS THE PASSWORD because it is no longer logging in under a domain!

Onboard Audio Not Found: Device Manager Wont Show?

Oct 6, 2008

I recently reinstalled Xp after formatting the hdd, since I was giving a friend in need this computer. Everything went smooth and I left the computer in her possession. A few weeks later I was visiting her and was using the computer when I noticed there was no sound, where there had previously been sound. Upon opening sounds properties box I found a message stating that there was no audio device installed.I opened the device mgr and there was a yellow exclamation mark under "video controller" which was under "display." After doing some research, I came to the conclusion that the chipset driver needed updated or re-installed.

Mapped Network Drives Without Connecting The Network Cable?

Oct 13, 2009

I need to have network drive on my Windows XP computer. In order for a software to work, there needs to exist a network drive, named N, existing on my PC. Since there's not a second PC to link to, what I did was to created a directory named est on the same PC , share it out, and then, map a network drive, named N, to it. When my PC has an Ethernet cable connected to a switch, Windows XP will see that N drive (existing on the same PC). The moment I disconnect that Ethernet cable from the switch, the N drive is gone. Is there a way to have a mapped network drive on XP (as mentioned above), without the need to have a network cable connecting that PC to a switch?

Bizarre Network Adapter / No Icons In The Network Communications

Sep 16, 2005

My network adapter does not appear in Device Manager, until I "Show hidden devices". And then it appears as a "Realtek RTL8139 Family PCI Fast Ethernet NIC", whereas I actually have a D-Link DFE-538TX 10/100 adapter. Furthermore, I get no icons (at all) in the Network Communications window. So if I want to change any settings of my LAN, for example, I can't, because I can't select the LAN icon or right-click on it. The LAN is working though. The current driver for the Realtek adapter which is listed is a MS driver.

Audio Card With DSP Vs Onboard Audio

Jul 20, 2005

I do not know how to determine the CPU load of audio on a motherboard how to determine if the sound includes a digital signal processor (DSP). I assume a DSP, especially for older CPUs (600 MHz. or so) is a big improvement because it offloads a lot of processing from the CPU. I am interested only in stereo. How can I know if an add-in sound card with a DSP is actually an improvement? Does the DSP overweigh other issues, eg. does a cheap Mad Dog Prowler 4.1 DSP sound card offer an improvement over the motherboard sound of a Compaq DeskPro ENS/P600? Truth is, I've been looking for but have not seen a treatise on this topic. Does anyone have any links for me to pursue?

Computer Running Slow - Not Just Internet Slow But Onboard Slow

May 10, 2010

Lately my computer has been extremely slow, not just internet slow but onboard slow. For example, if I click on an application from the desktop it will sit there for 10-20 seconds before anything happens. Occasionally I'll click multiple times on something and nothing will happen then 30 seconds later it will open multiple instances of things. This delay has been happening with just about anything I click on, acting like the computer's busy doing something else when nothing else should be going on. I've looked in the task manager and the applications column will be blank

Slow Network Browsing: "My Network Places" Takes Long To Click?

Jun 9, 2006

when I browse "My Network Places", the browsing is so incredibly slow. It takes a long while when you click one icon in the “My Network Places” for that to open up and go to the next directory or when just first displaying the computers in “My Network Places”, it goes so slow.
I use Windows Workgroup on the LAN to share out internet. Everything else, other than browsing the network, works great. The internet browses nice and fast.

This morning I opened My Network Places while my pc was still loading all the programs at start-up and "My Network Places" was fast. After a few minutes it was back to normal low pace. Now I guess it is something running on my pc slowing it down. Is it maybe to do with XP Service Pack 2? Before installing SP2 the network browsing on my pc is fast, after installing SP2, it is slow. Other computers on the network without SP2 browse the network quite fast.
All the pc's on the network has XP Pro.
