How To Find Onboard Sound
Feb 13, 2006Bought a computer today and the guy said it has onboard sound, it says no driver installed but i dont know how to find out what the sound part is called to download driver, it just says other devices, multi media sound controller. Says motherboard is ACPI uniprocesser PC. I have speakers connected in the right connection.

May 28, 2009After a fresh installation of XP the onboard network card is no longer working with the error message "This device cannot start (Code 10)". I've changed no parts, same process on installation, bios settings are fine, formatted and re-installed to the same error so I was hoping somebody could help me find out what the problem is.I'm using the Gigabyte EP41-UD3L which has the Realtek RTL8168D(P)/8111D(P) as the onboard NIC running Windows XP Pro SP2. I just used the motherboard installation CD to install it initially as I did on the previous install and have also tried new drivers but had no luck. I've never run into this Code 10 error before so I'm not sure where to go from here and any help will be appreciated.The Windows knowledge base isn't much help either as it's explanations for code 10 are.If the device has a FailReasonString value in its hardware key, that string is displayed as the error message. Oct 6, 2008I recently reinstalled Xp after formatting the hdd, since I was giving a friend in need this computer. Everything went smooth and I left the computer in her possession. A few weeks later I was visiting her and was using the computer when I noticed there was no sound, where there had previously been sound. Upon opening sounds properties box I found a message stating that there was no audio device installed.I opened the device mgr and there was a yellow exclamation mark under "video controller" which was under "display." After doing some research, I came to the conclusion that the chipset driver needed updated or re-installed.

Apr 11, 2007This started last night, the only thing that I did that was out of the ordinary was ran Avast's thourough scan fully, but even after that my sound worked, so it didnt delete the driver to my knowlege, but when I do a dxdiag and look at my audio, it doesn't exist, there is no sound card installed, and allI use is my DFI Lan Party UT RDX200 CF-DR mother boards on board sound. I tried installing the driver again fom DFI and to no success, now when I went to install the drive again, I got an error saying that this device isnt approved by Windows. Could windows be preventing my audio card from working?

Jan 1, 2006Whenever i install drivers on my pc, (i've tried graphics card drivers and wireless network card drivers) my pc stops working. When i installed the graphics card drivers, i tried testing the graphics on a game (counter-strike) but as soon as i got into the game, the pc flashes a blue screen, and reboots. I cant see what the blue screen says because it flashes on and off again to quick for me to read it. I decided to uninstall the graphics card drivers, and the game worked perfectly, but the graphics were REALLY bad. So i thought i might need to update some other drivers, so i tried to install my wireless network card, but when i finished installing the drivers when i had to restart my computer, it flashed the BSOD.... AGAIN! I need help urgently as im going to a LAN gaming comp called "rezidue" and its on in 2 weeks, i need my pc fixed by then! All these problems started when i upgraded my CPU. Everything was running smooth, and i was happily playing along on my computer, when i was asked what my FPS was in counter-strike, and i was all "mine are 65!" and there like "wow that sucks, mines 130" so i set out on my epic quest to get better FPS then everyone else and MAN THAT WAS A MISTAKE. I upgraded from my celeron 2.8ghz cpu to a P4 3.0ghz HT cpu, and thats when things started messing up on me. My entire system is as follows (incase it can help someone help me) P4 3.0ghz HT CPU, Microstar P4 motherboard, 128mb Nvidia Geforce mx4000 AGP x8 graphics card, 256MB ddr ram (recently brought new 1GB ddr ram off ebay just for rezidue! should be here soon!) I assume a DSP, especially for older CPUs (600 MHz. or so) is a big improvement because it offloads a lot of processing from the CPU. I am interested only in stereo. How can I know if an add-in sound card with a DSP is actually an improvement? Does the DSP overweigh other issues, eg. does a cheap Mad Dog Prowler 4.1 DSP sound card offer an improvement over the motherboard sound of a Compaq DeskPro ENS/P600? Truth is, I've been looking for but have not seen a treatise on this topic. Does anyone have any links for me to pursue?

The problem is I can't find the drivers for it. My friend did send me the drivers but then I put on my USB and now it is stuffed up and now I can't get them on it. I did install them once and it worked and then created a partion and re-installed XP then USB stuffed up.
