I've tried everything with this, after i turn my computer on, everything is fine and when the wondows XP screen comes up where there its loading.. nothing follows only a black screen and the mouse.

Anyway im getting the Following Blue Screen Error: 0x0000008E, This error is happening 5-10 times per day, Sometimes it will be random sometimes it wont. It happens alot when i use mozilla to browse or download files and it happens when im not using mozilla also.

What could cause that? then a box kept coming up asking what connection I wanted to use and if I pressed one, it would dial up and thank God, in a way..an error message came up. I supposed I should never have entereded anything in that box.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently attempted to install a program that installed Microsoft .Net Framework 1.1. The installation of the original program didn't complete so I uninstalled .Net. Now, when I turn on my computer the log on screen doesn't appear - it just goes directly to the desktop. This isn't a problem because I only have one user account, but I just wanted to see if my ininstalling .net had something to do with this, or if not, what else could have caused this to happen spontaneously? It seems to run ok is safemode so I think it is software related. I have not reinstalled windows yet and prefer not to. Windows was reinstalled about 4 months ago. Also when I try to log into this site I get a message saying the admin must white list me but it then lets me post anyway.

First of all my second hard drive (D disappeared...it didn't show in My Computer. "Add New Hardware" didn't bring it back. Then, all of a sudden it was back. Secondly, something changed my screensaver, but I was able to restore it the usual way. I've used Registry First Aid to check on registry content, and, I've run a virus scan (NAV) and I've defragged the drive. Also, neither Counterspy nor Spybot could find anything wrong.

View 3 Replies View Relatedmy laptop has become very slow in starting up. Up to ten minutes in fact! It goes throuygh all processes as normal, but just takes ten times longer. Also, my mouse and curser are acting strange. the curser judders across the screen rather than moving in a smoth normal motion, and it occasionally dissapears completely for a second or two. All programs take ages to load and generally my PC is taking 5-10 times longer to do anything than it normaly does.Everything was fine up until 2 or 3 days ago when this started happening. View 13 Replies View RelatedLately I have been experiencing a temporary slowdown/freeze and I notice that the hd light is blinking. I can be moving the mouse across the page, for example, when it will start responding erratically or stop. As this is happening the hd light blinks even though nothing is being saved or opened. I have disabled indexing, run virus checks and adware and spyware removal tools. I do have a wireless router attached but i haven't checked to see if it happens with my laptop also.

View 3 Replies View RelatedComputer seems to run fine until i hit start and shut down my computer it goes through the regular process until it gets to the blue screen that says WINDOWS IS SHUTTING DOWN then it just freezes right there and the mouse wont move i have to hold the power button in until it shuts down it does this all the time now. i heve windows xp media edition service pack 3. since then i have updated my bios have turned on and off sound drivers and video drivers and deleted and installed my anti virus programs and it will not allow me to go back to any previos stores.

I can open the drives by right clicking and selecting "Open", but I'd much rather just be able to open them normally!The strange thing (to me, anyway) is that this only happens in "My Computer" - not in any other folder or window...

While trying to sort out a fairly unimportant problem I have almost wrecked my operating system.
The system:- Windows XP professional with all updates until Friday (now Sunday)
Computer:- Dont know the make, I think it might be Elite with 1.7 dual core processor, 2 Gb ram 300 Gb HD and Nvdia Graphics card, also installed, a TV card, wireles card and A DVD/CD drive.
The problem:- I was trying to bypass the Windows log on screen and sought help in this forum. The advice I was given seemed reasonable so I did it
What happened:- After making the changes the computer booted up properly but when Windows started I got a lot of splash screens and pop-ups as if it were a new installation and to my horror I could not access any of my data.
What I did:- I tried to use system restore but found that all the points I tried could not be restored.I tried shutting down Zonealarm (another post refers to this) which did not help,so I tried to uninstall Zone alarm but could not as apparently a dll has gone missing.So I deleted everything I could find related to Zone alarm and tried system restore again.Disaster.
The log on screen had reappeared and I thought I had solved the problem. Clicked on OK and the screen with only the mouse pointer appeared and stayed there for about 15 minutes, then the desk top picture appeared, nothing else. About 30 minutes later the icons and <Start> appeared. Everything seemed to work and I had found my files again But I am unable to access the Internet or outlook express, the IE diagnostic seems to think it is a question of Firewall. This could be as the Zonealarm Icon is still in the tooltray even though I thought I had deleted the whole of the program.
I would be grateful for help in two areas. First and most important How can I regain access to the net. Second repairing the ridiculously long start up.
Hi-I just tried to load a HP office ject 4215 all-in-one printer on my computer using the typical install which included all kinds of features. I don't have enough space so I removed it using the uninstall feature on the cd. It did not remove everything so I used Windows explorer to find what I could. Then, I reinstalled it using the minimum requirements. It is working fine but everytime my screen saver comes on, when I move the mouse I am at a windows login screen that shows the users (only one which is me) on the right and I have to click this to get back to my desktop. I have Windows XP Professional.

After powering down then powering back up it will get as far as the login screen for Windows, then reboot, no warning, just blank screen then a complete restart. After a few automatic restarts it will not even make it that far, with shorter and shorter intervals between reboots. I have tried another drive in the PC to make sure it was not a powersupply/motherboard/ram issue, and the other drive works fine. I installed the original system drive
as a secondary drive, and can see all the data and have run basic diagnostics with no bad sectors detected.
I am new here and was not able to find any thing similar to my problem. I recently installed some drivers to work with my logitech mx900 wireless mouse, I just have the mouse itself and a seperate bluetooth reciever. I could not figure out how to get it to work without connecting it every time I turn on the computer and un installed the program. Now my computer gets stuck after I press shutdown and in the blue screen where it says windows is shutting down

View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded to windows xp professional from windows me. I was not having any problems when I started the pc until after I installed the .net framework updates from the windows update site. Now when I start or restart my pc it starts with the administrator setup instead of the way it had been. I need to go to start/log off and select switch user in order for it to switch to the way that it had been prior to the .net framework updates.I tried going to the control panel and selecting the user account and selecting to change the way users log on or off and both the "use welcome screen and use fast user switching" are checked off. I am listed as a computer administrator but there is also a user account titled administrator which is also listed as a computer administrator.The administrator account is the one that is automatically opening now when I start the pc but I want it to open to the user which is me (and that is how it was opening prior to the install of .net framework).
I also tried going to start / run / control user passwords2 on the user accounts I removed the check mark from the box for "users must enter a password to use this computer". I then selected okay to the automatically logon box that popped up with my user name. I did not enter a password since I never entered or had one to begin with. I then clicked on okay..I then tried going to control panel / user accounts and then to change the way users log on and off and unchecked the box for both "use the welcome screen" and "use fast user switching". However when I clicked on okay I get a screen that states that "fast users switching cannot be turned off while multiple users are logged on. Make sure all other users are logged off, then try again." Does anyone know how I can get Windows XP to open/start that way again without having to always go to start /log off and selecting to switch users all the time?
I have a compaq presario 2500 laptop with windows xp home edition sp1 installed. I had left my computer at the desktop screen to go do something and when I came back avast antivirus had come up with a message saying that one of my files was infected with a trojan. i believe the file was stored in the system or system32 folder. anyways, it had reccomended me to move the file to avast's "virus chest", so I did. and i went ahead and worked on my laptop as normal. then after shutting my computer down and starting it back up later in the day, i found that my laptop would not load any further than the blue "windows is starting up..." screen. i let it sit there for about 30 mins. so then i went to my desktop and started researching my problem on google. i tried going into safe mode, but it still gets stuck at the same screen.

For the past week now I've had no desktop icons or windows bar at the bottom of my screen. I turn it on and instead of opening my normal work screen (with icons etc), it goes to a blue windows "welcome" screen with my name and personal icon as if I�d returned from standby and it's waiting for me to log back on. I am the only user -- only my name appears. There are only two options on the screen: click on my name or go to turn off the computer. When I click on my name it starts to load my personal settings, then in less than a second it says it's �logging off� but then after a few seconds it just returns to the welcome screen. I have rebooted windows in safe mode, but to no effect.

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy son has a Dell dimension XP. It wont boot past the windows splash screen. We can get into safe mode, from there we have tried system restore. It did the restore but still wont boot up into windows. We have also tried chkdsk /f and /r but it tells us that the system is in use by another process. We have disabled the startup up progs, and tried again but it stills says the same. OK so we tried using the xp installation disk, changed the bios to boot from CD Attempted to do REPAIR, but it said ' set up did not find any HDD installed in your computer.
