Windows Xp Welcome Screen / User Logon

Jul 26, 2007

I recently upgraded to windows xp professional from windows me. I was not having any problems when I started the pc until after I installed the .net framework updates from the windows update site. Now when I start or restart my pc it starts with the administrator setup instead of the way it had been. I need to go to start/log off and select switch user in order for it to switch to the way that it had been prior to the .net framework updates.I tried going to the control panel and selecting the user account and selecting to change the way users log on or off and both the "use welcome screen and use fast user switching" are checked off. I am listed as a computer administrator but there is also a user account titled administrator which is also listed as a computer administrator. The administrator account is the one that is automatically opening now when I start the pc but I want it to open to the user which is me (and that is how it was opening prior to the install of .net framework).

I also tried going to start / run / control user passwords2 on the user accounts I removed the check mark from the box for "users must enter a password to use this computer". I then selected okay to the automatically logon box that popped up with my user name. I did not enter a password since I never entered or had one to begin with. I then clicked on okay..I then tried going to control panel / user accounts and then to change the way users log on and off and unchecked the box for both "use the welcome screen" and "use fast user switching". However when I clicked on okay I get a screen that states that "fast users switching cannot be turned off while multiple users are logged on. Make sure all other users are logged off, then try again." Does anyone know how I can get Windows XP to open/start that way again without having to always go to start /log off and selecting to switch users all the time?

Infinite Logon Loop / Immediatley Logs Off To The Logon Screen

Sep 22, 2004

My computer starts up normally. It always just autologs on since I'm the only one using my windows xp computer. However, before anything can be displayed it immediatley logs off to the logon screen. I click my username and start the login process (i have no password and before even switching to my wallpaper or anything it says stuff like logging out and saving your settings.

I tried booting in safe mode too and the same infinite logon loop occured to, even with the default administrator account. The last thing I remember doing before this happened is I was playing City of Heroes when it crashed forcing me to restart my computer. This happens occasionally in certain programs but I've never had anything like this happen before. I tried unplugging my keyboard, mouse, usb devices, ethernet cable, no luck. User Interface Failure - Logon User Interface Dll Msgina.dll Failed To Load

Dec 15, 2006

Current situation: When Windows XP boots it displays Windows logo, black screen and then a small error window with title "User Interface Failure" and text "The logon user interface dll msgina.dll failed to load. Contact your system administrator ..." There is a button to restart the system. Booting causes a loop back to the same state; I cannot get the system to boot to safe mode. Other than the lack of a logon and desktop the rest of the boot process seems to continue OK; I can access network shared drives from another system. Using BartPE I can see that msgina.dll is in C:windowssystem32 as it should be. Unfortunately much of the data I need to access for my work is not on shared drives and cannot be accessed by BartPE so I am in big trouble.
Background: The express version of SpyCatcher was installed a few daus ago. All was OK until I restarted the system and arrived at the current situation. I also have BartPE which I have used to look at the SpyCatcher logs and found entries that msgina.dll was quarantined (along with many other safe items). I believe this is the cause of the problem and not anything else.

Only Windows Icon At Log-on Screen, No User Names Present, No Way To Log On!

Jul 30, 2007

Dell computer from 2001. . I was on the regedit screen, and when I went into one of the HKEY_LocalMachine or one of those HKEY folders, the "Classes" folder got deleted. That's when everything kind of...messed up. Regedit stopped working (asked for an "appropriate program from the list" to use with it) and almost everything stopped, so I had to shut the computer down.

Now when I shut it down and tried to get back on, I couldn't get ANYTHING on the logon screen except a dinky little Windows logo, with no usernames, making it impossible to logon!

how the heck do I get back to the WIndows logon screen with the usernames back? Do I need a special CD I need to purchase, and is there anyway to get back the users without losing all my stuff? Please help.
you can post here to help or email me at kobetheman1212@gmail.com

How To Add The User Account Logon Information?

Can anybody tell me how to add the user account logon information?

Specifically, When on the Logon Screen there is information pertaining to the Users Unread Email Information. I have changed to a new email address (because of SPAM). I would like to activate so it sees the new email account and reflects accurate number of unread messages. (I have been helped by someone earlier to remove the old email info...but need help to put on the new info.) Any suggestions?

After Logon Pc Very Slow On 1 User Account

Jun 25, 2005

I run XP Home Ed SP2 on my home pc. Myself and my wife have user accounts.

When i login to my account it takes for ever for the desktop to appear and all the automatic programs etc to start up (i use sophos antivirus & EZ Firewall). I cant even get taskmanager to appear until everything has loaded. I have to go for a smoke while waiting for it to finish.

My wifes login however is instantaneous - everything appears quickly and ready to go in no time.

I dont understand this - i assumed the same programs were running cos they are installed on the psame pc.

Is there a program i can run to show me what is loading from the log on screen so i can compare between the two user accounts?
or can anyone suggest something to quicken mine up?

Computer Shutdown After User Account Logon

Nov 22, 2006

I'm having some problems with my computer that started yesterday afternoon. I was on it that morning and it worked perfect and i shut it down properly before school only to find that when i got home it wont let me logon to a windows user account. After booting the windows user account pops-up and after selecting my account the computer will shut down. A friend of mine said that there might be something wrong with the winlogon but i cant find any info about that online. Right now im using safe mode with networking and i also tried accecsing the boot menu and selecting "disable automatic restart after system failure". Now rather than restarting it gives me a blue screen that reads:

A problem has been detected and Windows has been shutdown to prevent damage to your computer.

If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Disable or uninstall any anti-virus, disk defragmentation or backup utilities. Check your hard drive configuration, and check for any updated drivers. Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer.

User Logon Option Setting To Enable Ctrl Alt Del

Jan 9, 2006

Way for me to change the logon option setting to Ctrl-Alt-Del? In W2K there was an easy checkbox setting in users from the control panel. And upgrading to WXP kept that setting. With WinXP preinstalled in a notebook, the logon screen comes up immediately from power up. I would like to require the intermediate step of manually pressing Ctrl-Alt-Del keys before the logon screen appears. I'm willing to reinstall W2K first and then reinstalling WXP as I also want to replace the existing notebook hdd with another larger capacity drive if I cannot find an acceptable answer soon.

Multi User Logon Access To Certain Files Programs

Feb 9, 2006

setting up more than one user logon for windows xp home edition w/ sp2 installed (using fat32). What I would like to acheive (if possible) is to limit my teenagers (2) access to certain files and programs. More specifically programs such as windows explorer (including right-click on START button), access to the "RUN" command, control panel, and other system controlling programs. I have searched on C-Net and microsoft, finding bits and peices but not all together in 1 post and not a step by step. I am not afraid to edit the registry. Also I do not want to convert this comp to ntfs (unless there is a way to back up a massive amount of data without a cd/dvd burner, as I am under the impression that a re-install of XP and reformatting of hard drive is required to switch to ntfs). What would be ideal (and maybe easier to do?) would be to have teenage-user1 and teenage-user2 logon bring up only a desktop with no taskbar and/or START button, thus allowing only access to the programs that I shortcut to the desktop (this thought just occurred to me while typing this).

These children are 15 and 16 and are smart enough to type a google search for password/registry/command prompt hacks and crackers and such. I haven't seen anything in regaurds to what I am looking for all on 1 system or complete in 1 post/step-by-step. Possibly I am not typing the correct search words, but seems alot of text for a search ( am not typing "the" "and" etc. and am using/trying as many buzzwords as I can think of...) and I get no way too much irrelavent and sometimes confusing info or no matches at all. I may be making a mountain out of a mole hill with how I want to do this, as it probably has been done before, if so a link(s) would be much appreciated as would any advice from "seasoned/in-the-know" users/programmers.

So when he tries to access the printer it doesn't know where to go. I have windows xp HOME and from what I see I can't change the name on his computer the folder immediately under documents & settings). I followed instructions to copy from one folder to another (ie, Mine to his) using a 3rd administrator account. I could copy any account but mine.

Cant Logon To Windows

Aug 24, 2007

I am facing difficulties to logon to my laptop. It runs on Windows XP SP2 and it has been working fine for the last 9 months. I have installed a software called "cnbtech" which is used to installed drivers for a camera.I restarted my laptop and the laptop stops in the Logon page. The weird part is that the user icon is not displayed on the screen. So the pressed "ctrl+alt+del" to open a page which shows my name as the user and it request for a password, but i do not have any idea about the password as i did not set any password before. I tried to enter the administrator mode but it request for a password as well, and i even tried to run on safe mode but the password is still being asked. There are so many important documents saved in it so i cannot afford to reformat my laptop. So i have removed my hardisk and connected it as an external hardisk to another laptop. Here i can view all the softwares and docoments stored in my hard disk.My opinion is that the "dll files" which are assigned to the Windows Logon might have been corrupted. I want to replace the dll files with a new one from another laptop. Now my problem is i don't know which dll files are assigned to the windows Logon.
