How Do I Hide Users From Fast User Switching Or Logon

Jun 29, 2007

When I do fast user switching or logon in XP, I wish to hide certain users from being displayed. It seems XP has this capability since there are other users in my system that do not display on the logon or fast user switching screen.

Switching Users Sound Is Not Comming

You know the sound that the computer makes when you click on start-> Log Off -> Switch User? It's a specific sound like when you turn off your computer or when you restart your computer, or when you log in to your computer. That "Windows" sound. Well for me, that sound has disapeared everytime switch users. My normal sound is okay, and the log off/log in sounds are still there, but for some strange reason, my Switch User sound is gone. I was just wondering what caused this, it's not really a big deal,

Unable To Log Onto Different User - Switching User

Sep 24, 2008

The title sums up my problem pretty well. I used to have a problem with switching user, my computer didn't respond after clicking 'switch user.' I searched for a thread about that problem on this site and solved it instantly. However, after switching user, the computer now returns back to the Windows XP main log-on screen as it's supposed to, but when trying to log onto a different user, the computer almost refreshes the screen and comes straight back to the log-on screen. The only user that has access to the computer at this point is the user that switched user originally.

Slow Hibernation Restart And User Switching

Sep 11, 2007

on wake-up from being inactive, the blue screen shows and the system remains at that point for about 2 mintues, then the user logon screen shows. One cannot select a user and logon yet, but after about another minute, the logon screen will show, for example that a given user account has three progams running(which it should). Then the computer runs fine everything works, and it appears to be as snappy as ever. The system: XP SP2, Intel Core 2 Duo with 1GB. 300GB Barracuda drive, 7200, lots of free space. Disk has been defragged and I have run the tools from the Iolo System Mechanic suite.

I run latest ZoneAlarm with spy blocking and antivirus, also run Spysweeper. Windows firewall is on. I also seem to be having sound problems, i.e. none. Another system, older with roughly the same protection, on the network runs fine.

User Interface Failure - Logon User Interface Dll Msgina.dll Failed To Load

Dec 15, 2006

Current situation: When Windows XP boots it displays Windows logo, black screen and then a small error window with title "User Interface Failure" and text "The logon user interface dll msgina.dll failed to load. Contact your system administrator ..." There is a button to restart the system. Booting causes a loop back to the same state; I cannot get the system to boot to safe mode. Other than the lack of a logon and desktop the rest of the boot process seems to continue OK; I can access network shared drives from another system. Using BartPE I can see that msgina.dll is in C:windowssystem32 as it should be. Unfortunately much of the data I need to access for my work is not on shared drives and cannot be accessed by BartPE so I am in big trouble.
Background: The express version of SpyCatcher was installed a few daus ago. All was OK until I restarted the system and arrived at the current situation. I also have BartPE which I have used to look at the SpyCatcher logs and found entries that msgina.dll was quarantined (along with many other safe items). I believe this is the cause of the problem and not anything else.

After Logon Pc Very Slow On 1 User Account

Jun 25, 2005

I run XP Home Ed SP2 on my home pc. Myself and my wife have user accounts.

When i login to my account it takes for ever for the desktop to appear and all the automatic programs etc to start up (i use sophos antivirus & EZ Firewall). I cant even get taskmanager to appear until everything has loaded. I have to go for a smoke while waiting for it to finish.

My wifes login however is instantaneous - everything appears quickly and ready to go in no time.

I dont understand this - i assumed the same programs were running cos they are installed on the psame pc.

Is there a program i can run to show me what is loading from the log on screen so i can compare between the two user accounts?
or can anyone suggest something to quicken mine up?

Windows Xp Welcome Screen / User Logon

Jul 26, 2007

I recently upgraded to windows xp professional from windows me. I was not having any problems when I started the pc until after I installed the .net framework updates from the windows update site. Now when I start or restart my pc it starts with the administrator setup instead of the way it had been. I need to go to start/log off and select switch user in order for it to switch to the way that it had been prior to the .net framework updates.I tried going to the control panel and selecting the user account and selecting to change the way users log on or off and both the "use welcome screen and use fast user switching" are checked off. I am listed as a computer administrator but there is also a user account titled administrator which is also listed as a computer administrator. The administrator account is the one that is automatically opening now when I start the pc but I want it to open to the user which is me (and that is how it was opening prior to the install of .net framework).

I also tried going to start / run / control user passwords2 on the user accounts I removed the check mark from the box for "users must enter a password to use this computer". I then selected okay to the automatically logon box that popped up with my user name. I did not enter a password since I never entered or had one to begin with. I then clicked on okay..I then tried going to control panel / user accounts and then to change the way users log on and off and unchecked the box for both "use the welcome screen" and "use fast user switching". However when I clicked on okay I get a screen that states that "fast users switching cannot be turned off while multiple users are logged on. Make sure all other users are logged off, then try again." Does anyone know how I can get Windows XP to open/start that way again without having to always go to start /log off and selecting to switch users all the time?

Computer Shutdown After User Account Logon

Nov 22, 2006

I'm having some problems with my computer that started yesterday afternoon. I was on it that morning and it worked perfect and i shut it down properly before school only to find that when i got home it wont let me logon to a windows user account. After booting the windows user account pops-up and after selecting my account the computer will shut down. A friend of mine said that there might be something wrong with the winlogon but i cant find any info about that online. Right now im using safe mode with networking and i also tried accecsing the boot menu and selecting "disable automatic restart after system failure". Now rather than restarting it gives me a blue screen that reads:

A problem has been detected and Windows has been shutdown to prevent damage to your computer.

If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Disable or uninstall any anti-virus, disk defragmentation or backup utilities. Check your hard drive configuration, and check for any updated drivers. Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer.

I have ran the CHKDSK /F with no problems found. And i hope that with this information you may help me fix this very annoying, and most random computer problem.
