I can't get my samsung n110 netbook to hibernate. It always would work perfectly fine. Today (this just started today) it wouldn't go into hibernate. Instead it would just stay on. Typically, closing the screen would send it to hibernation mode, but it won't do that anymore. So I went to start>turn off computer. Held shift, and clicked hibernate. The windows screen came up, and said "Preparing to hibernate". It stayed on that screen for around 3 seconds, then just went back to the desktop, as if nothing happened. I read in multiple places to disable hibernation, restart, enable it again, then try again. I tried that, and it didn't work. Any idea on how this can be fixed? Keep in mind, standby works perfectly fine.
I received a Gateway Lt Netbook. This is kind of just a cheap computer to us till I go off to college (in two-years). Then I'm getting a macbook pro or hopefully one of the mac products. Even though this is just a computer to use till then. I want to back this up, my family's external harddrive is full though. I was wondering if I could back up my xp netbook to an 8gb flashdrive? Also, could someone tell me how to do this (I'm use to press the button and it backs everything up). If I need a program, preferably freeware or cheap, but I want something that works. If I really need to I will splurge on it, it just I am tight on cash right now.
Before I did a complete restore of windows home edition, I copied my windows address book to a floppy disk. Now when I go to copy the floppy back to windows address book an error occurs and it won't copy. could it have something to do with a mark that looks like this~.
In Windows XP, is it possible to add a note to the folder? For example, I have a folder "Scanned Documents for Genealogy" and I would like to add a note somewhere in that folder, or attached to that folder, that indicates that those documents have all been added to my genealogy software program.I know I could create a document in the folder, title it NOTES ABOUT THIS FOLDER, or whatever, but I'm wondering if there is a simple way to attach a note to a folder?
My PC was running flawlessly for about two months now, and then yesterday I came back to find my computer off. I turned it back on and when it got to the desktop, no task bar items started, and all of the .ink shortcuts on my desktop wouldn't display icons, just the broken icon icon, if you know what I mean. Anywho, when I went to start any program, it would either ask to use the web service to find what to open the exe in, or just open it notepad. Why note pad works and no other exe does
Recently, Microsoft modified the licensing terms for OEM editions. Previously, purchasers were permitted to apply OEM licenses to their own computers provided the licenses were purchased with qualifying hardware. However, the Windows OEM System Builder EULA now prohibits purchasers from applying OEM licenses to computers they are building for themselves, friends, family members, etc.As explained in the revised license comparison, "[OEM licenses] must be preinstalled on a PC and sold to another unrelated party." (Emphasis added.) These revised licensing terms apply to all OEM versions of Windows currently sold, including Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7. Please keep these revised terms in mind when building your own computers
Tow recent additions to the Beta stable have left me impressed enough to tout it's benefits. :One-Care" is a lifesaver program that is a joy to use as soon as you open it from the download try it and you will like it - or not(Tell Me) You read everyday about backing up problems but now I believe that has been resolved in one fell swoop by this program. What's going on? did Microsoft finaslly hire a programmer who lived in the real world?
The other program is "One-Note".I find myself happily configuring this program to the way I do things and it responds (some quircks but the feedback allowance appears to be listening)Try the programs for discussion at the outset before they print the final copies and some ogf the little things that need tweaking may actually be done without getting zillions of patches.
i deleted microsoft office document imaging and One Note from my printer sectiona while back because I was unaware of their functions. While playing on a different computer, I experimented with the programs and found out what they are used for. But now they are still gone on my computer. How do I get them back deleted them from printer and faxes and now I want them back.what do i do?
This isn't a problem as such.. it's just darned annoying. When I click the My Documents folder on my desktop, and open the My Pictures folder, it has the musical note background and no film strip facility.I know that the My Documents and My Pictures folders are deemed as System folders in XP and cannot be customized, but here's the thing.. If I open the explorer file tree and go to the Documents and Setting folder, and open the My Documents and My Pictures from inside it.
i need help with my dell easy note laptop well when i turn it on it comes up at the bottom with a progress bar (almost like the one if you shut the lid and open it and again and it says resuming windows) wich takes a very very long time to complete and when it dose it then starts windows any idea how to make this startup quicker or maybe even get rid of that bar altogether
I just put in an ASUS mobo, and my XP Pro OS just sent me a message that Windows wouldn't come up because a dll was missing or corrupted. <Windows root>System32hal.dll. I'm in the Recovery Console, and I went to Systemroot, but the command <Windows root>System32hal.dll. is invalid. Other than reinstall XP, what can I do to find or get that hal.dll.
I have an ASUS EEE PC 900 that takes almost three miutes to boot to the desktop. I have unchecked almost everything in msconfig and it doesnt make a difference. This Laptop had ALOT of viruses and infections. I would have loved to do a clean OS install but it does not have a cd-rom drive and I would have to make a bootable USB key. Does anyone have any ideas on how to make a Windows XP cd emulate on one of these? I tried to mount one in daemon tools so that I could run sfc /scannow to fix any dead .dlls but it would not see the CD.
I had to reinstall windows after a virus took out all of the essential .dll files and the computer wouldn't start up, I now have a problem with some of my hardware not working. When I go into device manager the following have yellow question marks beside them:
ethernet controller multimedia audio controller video controller (VGA compatible).
The computer itself is an XC cube edition (not sure if that's a brand or not). It was supplied for a disabled student if that helps? It runs windows XP service pack 2.
A friend of mine recently had a trojan revealed from a Mcaffe scan. It was listed as a Downloader-RK and the file effected was CIDAEMON.EXE I have read that this file is from Microsoft for Indexing. My friend brought it to the campus internt guys and when they removed it her internet wouldn't work. So they just left it quarantined. It doesn't seem to be causing any issues, but she still wants it off.
I suddenly encountered a problem yesterday. Alot of images/icons wouldn't display properly. When i try to play a video it starts flashes green stripes every 0,4 second(rough estimate) . After reading a bit on these forums. The most probably conclusion was that there was a problem with my graphics card. Is there anything else that could have caused this?
how do i go about installing windows xp on a machine that wouldn't even start. it says cannot find operating system and stays there with the underscore cursor flashing. i inserted the disk anyway an tried to run it usind DOS commans, but it says that the setup file can't run from the command window. is there any other way to do it or that's it the machine is gone.
You see my cmd is working fine. Then one day I open run and type in cmd and then enter. I type in ipconfig and it says ipconfig isn't an external command or something like that. Anyways I fixed the problem by typing in run C:WINDOWSsystem32cmd.exe and enter. Weird enough it worked when i typed in ipconfig, and other commands. If I typed in cmd that was open from the run any commands wouldn't work. I tried creating an shortcut from the actual cmd file and trying commands but it still doesn't work. Well sometimes I code stuff or download .bat files because I need of em. And I try to open the file but it always usually runs fine but after that incident I try to open any .bat file and it just opens it and the window closes so fast. I don't know how to fix this problem uahghhh it's a pain in the butt lol. It's getting me so mad! I just want to use my normal cmd .
When I tried installing XP Pro as an upgrade from Windows 2000, it almost finished the install (34 minutes left) when the computer turned itself off. This happened several times. I removed the hard drive and reformatted it - cleaned it off, then reinstalled it. Now when the PC boots up it recognizes the CD Rom drivs but it will not boot or install from the CD ROM drive. I created the 6 diskettes to tell the PC to install from the CD Rom drive, and it gives me an I/O error. The BIOS says to boot off the CD ROM drive but it won't. What might cause this? A bad hard drive? A bad motherboard?
A friend wishes to change the name he uses when sending email and although he changed the name listed in his address book, everytime he sends an email his previous name still appears.I told him to delete the complete entry for his address and reinstate itwith his new name.He did this but the old name still appears on his email when sending
I bought a Dell system with XP. After upgrading(incl. new motherboard) the already installed Nike Philips MP3 player "Digital Media Manager" software wouldn't work. Nike/Philips sent me to Dell who sent me back to Nike/Philips who then sent me to Microsoft who I have so far been unable to contact successfully.Tried to uninstall software but received variety of errors, incl. some Java ones. Eventually appeared to delete it but trying to reinstall software always displays "Digital Media Manager already installed". Have tried manually removing some Registry elements but I'm clearly missing some. Does anyone know precisely which Registry elements I need to remove for a complete manual uninstallation ?
I'm writing this on behalf of a friend. She has a pc that works on the OS XP Home. She used it on Saturday to fill in an application on line. She tried to go on line again yesterday and it wouldn't connect to the internet. A dialogue box appeared stating: Buffer Overrun: a buffer overrun has been detected which has corrupted the programs internal state. The program cannot safely continue.
I had bought several hard drives as is, hoping one of them would work. thought I had one, but turned out I couldn't install XP onto the disk, wouldn't copy any files. so I pretty much cut my loss on the drives and removed it the bad one from pc. now I get 2 options when booting windows. my original xp install, and the 2nd install that still needs to complete, how can I stop it from wanting to install xp again from the boot file and keep the original settings as they were?
I took it home and attempted to install windows xp on it and in the process things got messed up. I started up the computer and logged in. Once in, I inserted the Windows XP install so as to upgrade it and the process started out fine. Well it got to the point where it said it needed to restart in order to contiinue with the process, which it did. It restarted and began copying files, and it tossed out a few error messages. They were: could not copy file: spra0410.dll & spra0411.dll I tried to write them all down but I couldn't catch the all. I do know however there were about six files, all similar to the ones above, that didn't copy. I'm not too sure what to do at this point because now the computer won't go to windows at all. It goes through the start up screen all the way to the point where it says "press any key to continue", but then just kind of freezes and won't go any further. I've tried pressing a button to go forward, also tried to boot in safe mode whic none of the F Keys or Del will take me to. I tried changing the Bios to Boot from CD first using the same XP CD. I'm not sure what else I can do to get this thing to open windows, even in safe mode, or system restore. Sorry for the novel, just trying to explain in depth.
Recently, my windows address book (Documents & Settings/User/Apps/Microsoft/Address Book) has stopped working on my Windows XP SP2 desktop. The *.wab file is in the proper place and is of the right size but when I open it using Outlook Express or simply by clicking on the file itself, it opens empty and, at the same time, creates a new file name in the Address Book folder which uses the first 6 letters of the actual file name. On this same computer, with another address book, this shortened file name does not appear and the address file opens properly. It only occurs with one particular address book file.
Assuming the *.wab file was corrupted, I copied in a backup file to replace the corrupted address book file. The backup was made at a time when the address book was working properly. Unfortunately, the backup file demonstrated the same behavior, opening empty and showing the shortened file name.I then copied the original address book and the backup copy to another computer and found they both opened empty and both created the 2nd file name. On that same computer, other address book files open properly. At this point, an address book file, from my backup, which was working fine at the time the backup was made now fails and does so on two different computers.Other address book files open normally on both computers.I am at a loss and do not know how to recover the contents of the original address file.
I have a 1tb My Book Premium II drive. I'm accessing the drive through Windows XP Media Edition 2004. The External HD is connected via USB (I don't have Firewire or Firewire 2.0 on my laptop.) I have had little to no issues with this external hd, and have previously used the 160 gig version for over 2 years. I've got 550gb free meaning I've used it quite a bit. The 1tb drive is around 6 months old so far and I've got two complaints vs no solution. My files are sorted in the external hd similar to Window's. I have a Main folder, several categories of folders, then more folders within each... I archive lots of music, some videos, personal documents, and tons of pictures.I have been downloading various files directly to my hd, keeping my 160 gb laptop's hd clear of various files (Is this a bad idea??)
I use SoulSeek and Azeurus - both of which are compatible with Windows and tweaked appropriately. I attempt to access the files from My Computer and frequently experience an Explorer Crash. The severity is varying generally the Dr.Watson debugger will crash along with explorer... and on other occasions, I get no warning pop-up at all. I'm at a complete loss as to why this occurs. I can access the files with the download program(s) running, as well as closed both resulting with a crash. I have attempted to view the files through Mozilla and IE, both work properly, but it's an inconvenience.Anyone have similar problems? I have not found this exact issue on other forums... but I'm getting the picture WD drives do have problems.
Recently my computer crashed and I had to re-install everything. I imported my contacts back into outlook but now when I click on the To: or the address book I get a message. However when I click on the contacts on the left side they are all showing.
I hope someone out there can help me because i am well and truly stumped with this problem. I ordered a brand new pc - Ath 64 X2 4600+ CPU, 1 GB RAM, 400GB SATA, 256MB 7900GT, 19" TFT, 16x DVDRW-DL, Running Mcafee Antivirus / Ad-aware, I originally had problems when my Graphics card wouldn't work. I installed some older versions of the drivers and it was working okay. Then I had some problems with some dll files and i couldn't open Windows due to the system/config error at start up. I managed to repair that installation. THe next day, my PC would not boot and I could not repair it. I then found out, i had bad sectors on the Hard disk so i tried formatting it
