A black screen with my computer's summary displays itself first then the welcome screen appears. The problem is that I can not prevent this from displaying, even with 'My Computer-Properties-Startup and Recovery', this does not fix the problem. I am also blocked out from some areas even though I am Administrater and can not properly reboot and also to get behind it either.
I go to start, control panel, click System, then click on Advanced, then Settings for Performance, uncheck Fade or slide menus into view, Show shadows under menus, Show shadows under mouse pointer, Slide taskbar buttons, Smooth edges of screen fonts, then I click on OK and OK again then re-boot and go back to look at the Performance Options and they're checked again :S anyways way to make then not checked for good and not get auto-checked open startup/re-booting?
I reinstalled XP Pro with SP1 on my computer today. Everything is working well except when my desktop loads the actual display is about an inch to the right on the screen. If I go into properties and change/apply the screen resolution from 800 x 600 then back to 1024 x 768 it realigns and all is well. I would just prefer to not have to do that each time I restart windows.
I have a laptop with xp pro installed and I want to reinstall the operating system however the sticker on the bottom has gotten smudged. I went into my computer - properties however the key listed there is still the oem one. Is there a way to find my actual key anywhere in the computer or get it from microsoft?
Something strange is happining with my computer. Certain things don't work, here's a few:1.If I Right click and select "properties" on "My computer"... it does nothing.2.Most icons in "Control Panel" don't open anything (add remove programs... sound... etc...)3.Double clicking a file without an extention does nothing (used to pop up a "which program to open with" window.) What could be the problem
I try to see the device manager, click "My Computer" in the desktop and click properties the responde said: Windows can't not access the specific path, device or file. I'm running Xp Pro SP2, i'm unable to access the properties of MY COMPUTER, MY NETWORK. I cannot adjust the time and date of my PC and some other options in Conrol Panel. Ok, so far what i have done is. I did run SFCscannow command 2 time with my XP CD in dos prompt and it replaced all my DLL files, but problem is still the same. I have Norton antivirus, Ad-Aware SE Pro, Spybot and PcBug Doctor running in my compuer and i scanned my computer with all of them nothing detec no virus. I tried to use expand command in dos mode C:>expand f:i386 undll32.ex_c:windowssystem32 undll32.exe and it gives me error msg "Can't open output file: c:windowssystem32 undll32.exe"
I have been having a restart problem lately and it only happens everyone and a while. It happens about once a day and sometimes twice it is usually hours past boot up. I have heard about uncheecking a box in system properties. If i do this what will happen the next time the code reaches 00000x000
Around a week ago my computer started to act very funny. When I incerted a cd my properties window would open, when I started a program my microsoft office started to install, then I need to re install drivers.
my computer jams every now and again for a minute or 2 depending on what i do for E.g if i press ALT and TAB to quikly change wat im doing it jams. also whenever i click on something like a folder or shorcut of a program , instead of opening the file or folder the proprties come up ( this problem is now fixed but it might be a sympton of a virus or sumthing ?).i think its cuz of a file i downloaded off the internet.
My sister's computer is running very slowly, particularly at startup (which seems to take forever). I've got Panda antivirus software running and do reasonably regular spyware scans with AdAware, but am not sure if the problem is just that the computer is old with too little memory / overheating because it's on almost all the time / something else I haven't thought of. To help me determine what's going on, could someone much smarter than myself take a look at this HJT log and see if you see anything of concern?
A while back my computer crashed and I had to do a recovery. Now all of my pictures are gone and my wife is pissed. We did back-up some of the pictures, but were missing almost a year and halfs worth including my son's birthdays and first t-ball games. Is there any way to get them back?
I have a E Machine PC, model W2888. I formated the hard drive, but I do not have the recovery disc with the drivers on it. I was looking for the driver for the ethernet card. The card they show on the front of the case says "Intel Pro 10/100 LAN" so I was looking for drivers for that but no luck. So I called Emachines and they told me to download a chipset for "Intel 845GV" I tried looking for that, but I don't know what I'm looking for. Does anyone know where I can find a driver for the ethernet card so I can download it on this PC I'm using, burn it to a disc install it into my E Machine PC so I can get online and do a windows update and install all of the other dirvers?
been trying to put xp pro over home edition but disk may be faulty.it keeps coming up fatal error and restarts but i dont want to do a recovery and need to know if there is a way to get pc started without it going into xp pro setup.i have files on pc that i dont want to lose.
is it safe to delete data from my recovery partition which I don't want to regain space on that partition? i want to regain some hundred mbs on this partition to backup my os and other important things - can i do this? or can't my recovery partition be modified?
i got a new computer and gave my emachines T2885 Windows XP to my brother it was running great until he decided to wipe out the computer which i have done in the past with the system recovery disks that came with it and when he did this about half way thru the recovery we get a ghost.err now it won't even boot up. i have taken it to 2 gentlemen who both charged me and didn't do anything to it but 1 guy gave me a win crash cd and told me that i could get the computer back up and running with this cd. well i have no idea how to use this disk but he charged me 100.00 dollars anyway said he just didn't have the time to fix it that the disk is all i needed. well i am broke for this and still no fix for this computer.
Hoping to avoid a full reinstall of Windows XP, I'd like to try some repair procedures. The problem is, when I launch my "Vaio PCV-RS430G" recovery disc it goes straight to Sony's proprietary recovery interface which provides ONLY the preset option to wipe my 'c' drive and reinstall Windows. According to some MS articles I've read, an XP recovery disc should allow me to access the Windows Recovery Console (by typing "R" at the welcome screen). Can anyone suggest how I can bypass the Sony recovery and get to the Windows Recovery Console?
I had a Dell with XP Media Center Edition on it and I am going to make a new build. My question is, can I use the XP Media Center RECOVERY CD that came with the dell if I were to have a new CD KEY?
My friend did a windows recovery after he had a black screen when starting windows. Both IE and Firefox had slow connectivity yet I had him do a speedtest with speakeasy.net and it showed good speeds. He says the longer the computer is on, the slower is a surfing the internet. CPU usage is normal.
internet speeds: 2500kbps/400kbps
Could the recovery have messed with his computer networking drivers? He used a gateway recovery disk. His computer is either a gateway or dell computer.
Trying to recover my registry from being corrupted. I am in Windows XP Pro recovery console. But when I try At the Recovery Console command prompt, type the following lines, pressing ENTER after you type each line: md tmp copy c:windowssystem32 configsystem c:windows mpsystem.bak. It says I cannot copy the file. The file cannot be copied.
Running Windows XP. When starting up it takes about 20 minutes before I can use the computer - everything is like swimming through treacle. There is a lot of activity noise from 'the box'. When this has finished whirring away the computer is OK to use.
Please help. I have upgraded a machine from 98 to XP pro. Now on start up, the pc hangs/freezes on the windows XP screen, the one with the blue scrollong bar at the bottom.
My PC has recently started hanging during startup. It usually happens before the Windows XP logo appears. The startup process just stops, the screen stays black, the hard disk drive goes quiet and the activity light stays on (rather than the normal flickering). All I can do when this happens is hold down the power button until the power goes off. Also, when it does startup properly, after logging into XP it takes an unusually long time to load the settings, startup programs, etc and sometimes some of the normal system tray icons dont appear at all
I have recently installed windows on my computer which was fine. After some use the computer freezes and goes blank, this is normally an hour or so after I have been using it. I then have to manually restart the computer and it freezes just after the BIOS information comes up but just before the XP loading screens comes up. In BIOS I change some of the settings and it works again but then the same thing happens again. Now I cant even load from the hard drive because some of the windows files are corrupted.
I used the restore cd my pc came with. Once it was done, Windows started up and it froze where it asks me to name the computer cant do anything from this screen. Ive tried contacting the manufacturer but they cant help because my warranty is up. Any suggestions would be greatful. Thanks
My computer takes about 8 minutes to load up upon startup. I've ran my anti-virus programs and nothing comes up. Also, while online it comes up with a lot of broken links. So, I don't know what to do about it. Is there a real good free troubleshooting program that might be able to see what's wrong? Does anyone have any good ideas as to what is going on?
