Something strange is happining with my computer. Certain things don't work, here's a few:1.If I Right click and select "properties" on "My computer"... it does nothing.2.Most icons in "Control Panel" don't open anything (add remove programs... sound... etc...)3.Double clicking a file without an extention does nothing (used to pop up a "which program to open with" window.) What could be the problem
View 6 Repliesmy computer jams every now and again for a minute or 2 depending on what i do for E.g if i press ALT and TAB to quikly change wat im doing it jams. also whenever i click on something like a folder or shorcut of a program , instead of opening the file or folder the proprties come up ( this problem is now fixed but it might be a sympton of a virus or sumthing ?).i think its cuz of a file i downloaded off the internet.

This is not happening with just one of my shortcuts this is happening with all of them.I usually do a restart to fix this problem and it doesn't happen any more but that is only a temporary fix because it often happens again when I startup my computer. What is the reason for this? Is anybody else having this problem?

View 1 Replies View Relatedwhen i double click on "My Computer" in the desktop it opens with the "folders" part open on the standard buttons i.e its just like right clicking and exploring. plus i also realised that right clicking on my computer has the explore option first, and then comes open. And also, when i double click on any of my drives in the "my computer" it pops up an error, and the right click option is again wierd, but different this time, the 1st option is autoplay, then comes open, then search then explore. The drive doesnt open with "open" and "autoplay" but only opens with exploring and not only , but the drive opens in a new window.

Anyone know why this is happening? I can still work with the computer and do other stuff, but it just takes a while for the box to come up. It's really annoying.

Ok, so far what i have done is. I did run SFCscannow command 2 time with my XP CD in dos prompt and it replaced all my DLL files, but problem is still the same. I have Norton antivirus, Ad-Aware SE Pro, Spybot and PcBug Doctor running in my compuer and i scanned my computer with all of them nothing detec no virus. I tried to use expand command in dos mode C:>expand f:i386 undll32.ex_c:windowssystem32 undll32.exe and it gives me error msg "Can't open output file: c:windowssystem32 undll32.exe"

All my desktop icons will disappear along with my task bar for a few seconds then reappear. then nothing will happen as if i never clicked it in the first place. I've tried accessing it through the start menu but to no avail. the rest of my desktop icons work but for some reason i cant get into My Computer. Is this a virus perhaps?
View 12 Replies View Relatedwell, this problem started a little while ago, Ive got a 2.93ghz P4, and 1GB memory, so i know my computer is (plenty) fast enough.when i click on the button in the start menu "Turn Off Computer", my PC shows the hourglass, and i cant click on anything, this will go on for about a minute or 2, once it took 5 minutes. then the small box with shutdown options comes up finally, and then after the light blue screen gets to "Shutting Down...". it takes maybe a bit longer than expected but im not to sure about that.

I have never realised my current winXP has problems opening .bat file. When I click on such file, all it shows was a new window (something that look like DOS window) but as soon as it opens, it closes fast too. In effect, nothing is being run or activated (if that the correct words to use). I have downloaded some programs that required .bat file and because of this I can't run them. Is there anything wrong with my system? It is currently Windows Xp home edition version 2002, SP2.
