View 1 Replies View Relatedi was looking for an alternative to the google desktop's sidebar when i came across this "ricks sidebar" from this rickentendo dude on wincert.com.I downloaded it and it worked fine untill i tried setting up the weather gadget then i got a popup from threatfire telling me it just quarantined the sidebar.exe which supposedly was infected with a "trojan.win32.packed",so i checked out the details and it showed "registry value delete disallowed" under the quarantined win32 trojan.
View 12 Replies View RelatedThe high level instructions and still have the problem. I've got a hijacker (I think) problem. When I try to start my machine, as it's loading the icons in the system tray, I repeatedly get "explorer.exe has caused errors and will be shut down" and it generates an error log. Then all desktop icons disappear, and it starts over. Only way I can get it booted is in safe mode. I've run the current versions of spybot s&d and adaware 6. After I ran these applications and cleaned my system, I still have the problem. Reboot in safe mode and run Adaware and spybot again and they find registry entry problems again.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy sister did a Spybot scan and it apparently cleaned more than it should. After she did the "Fix", the computer crashed. When she tried to reboot, now all she gets is "Error loading operating system".We tried to reboot from the disk, and we get "searching from floppy, files not found""searching from cd-rom OK""boot from cd-rom, press any key", but when we press any key, nothing happens. Is there any other way to get this to boot from the disk so we can do a restore or file repair? I tried F8, but that didn't work either

I'm running XP Home Edition on an HP home PC. I keep getting warning notifications that my computer has been infected with the "Blackworm Virus." I am then routed to a WinFixer purchase website (I haven't purchased or installed anything). In addition, there seems to be some other "bug" that will takeover my browser and route them to other sites. I have run AVG, Microsoft Spyware, Spybot S&D, Ad-Aware 6.0, and XoftSpy Scan - all to no avail. Spybot S&D, Ad-Aware and XoftSpy detect the cookies and allow for immunization but this action is obviously not getting to the heart of the problem. AVG hasn't even identified the items. I have also tried de-activating the restore points and rebooting in safe mode
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am selling with the OS installed (Win XP-Pro), what can I do to ensure that there will be no information at all left on the machine. I used it for MSN, Internet banking, browsing all that stuff, and I'm a little nervous that there will be information accesable by the buyer. I would just do a wipe and reinstall, however, I do not have the OS disc anymore, So I want to clean it up as much as possible. People tell me that I have to get the registry cleaned out. What I am asking is for any tips to ensure a clean machine and registry.

My first post here, hope to get some help...my wife is ready to kill me (and vice versa) as she is accusing me of screwing up a month old Dell Dimension 8400.

I tried downloading a cheat for yahoo pool, when McAfee and Webroot Spysweeper picked up a host of adaware and junk trying to get installed I immediately stopped installing (but of course, some got through). After a few minutes the PC decided to shut down on it's own, without me doing anything. I restarted and the same thing happened almost immediately after start up, it shut down on it's own. I restarted using F8 and used the "restart with latest settings that worked" command. Got on and was able to run McAfee and some other programs where a trojan was found and removed. Everything worked fine after and the computer had been on for 5 or 6 days since then.
After a clean install, I'm not having much luck installing Java. All I get is this...any ideas as to how I can fix this?

The default settings is normally huge as disk drives are so big.Users end up with 10s of thousands of files in this folder than can take 20 minutes to clean out. Many IE issues are also resolved by deleting temp internet files. We default the setting "Empty Temporary Internet Files folder when browser is closed" on all systems but this does not seem to always delete everything.
