View 7 RepliesI'm running a Hewlett Packard a600y with 2.6 Celeron Processor and a gig of ram. I've run Spybot and Adaware, both found spyware and deleted it, but I'm still having problems with running slow, and even cheap little dinky games are locking it up. If you post a link to hijack this I'll run it and post a log, but I can't figure out what's wrong.
View 2 Replies View RelatedThe computer is nonresponsive for the most part at first. I click on the start button and nothing happens, but if i click on any desktop items they become highlighted because I clicked on them, but if I try to open them, they don't open immediately. After about 2-3 minutes of doing nothing, everything that I wanted it to do happens all at once.
When I open task manager, the thing that is taking up all of my CPU is this thing called SVCHOST.exe; there are 5 of them running - 3 for system, 2 for network service, and 1 for local service. While the computer has an episode, one of these for the system will use 99% of the CPU. That is when things are nonresponsive and slow.
Soon as i turn it on the antivirus starts up and my broadband connects then it freezes, a few times i've managed to open the task manager and i notice that on the CPU Usage History it it constantly at 100% and when i go onto the Processes tab instead of System Idle it is SVCHOST.EXE that is using all the CPU.
I thought it was a virus so i started my PC in safe mode and run the virus scanner, it found 3 Trojan Horse Downloaders, one even named itself CMD.exe which i thought would of cured the problem but ive turned it on this morning and it is still the same, it seems a little better and lasts longer before crashing but it still crashes eventually.
checked windows task manager...it appears to be svchost.exe (not svchosts.exe). Is this a virus or spyware because i have 3 different ones on system?
View 4 Replies View RelatedEvery time I'm on the internet svchost.exe takes up half my CPU. I can't browse, I have to constantly end svchost.exe so that I can sluggishly switch pages then in seconds it pops back again. Svchost.exe is somehow connected to my internet connection because i need it to use the internet yet its not letting me, its really frustrating, I've been beating my face on my desk because i cant figure out whats wrong. I've scanned my computer with AVG, malwarebytes, Spybot S&D, and Ad-aware.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have recently become annoyed at the high memory usage of the svchost.exe process. I have 8 of these services running at the moment. I havent had reason to complain until recently when they seem to be using more memory than necessary. I might just be over reacting here but perhaps someone can verify it for me. I have included a hijackthis log at the bottom.my system is running WindowsXP SP2, Asus K8VSE deluxe, Athlon 64 3200, 1.75 GB RAM, updated via drivers and windows updates (except one that just came in and I havent done yet). These just seem like too much memory for these. I have check at blackviper and didnt really see a lot of things I could turn off. I could be wrong though.

Its not usually like this though:

I have asked this before, but on startup, I have several processes named svchost.exe that run on startup. One of these is a network service and every time, this particular one uses 50% +/- CPU. Apps will not open, nothing will function correctly until this is terminated.
View 3 Replies View RelatedBoth svchost.exe + wuauclt.exe's memory usage occassionally increases rapidly even if my laptop is idle. I have to terminate wuauclt.exe manually (through End Process in Task Manager) in order for the 'Commit Charge' to return to late 300/early 400M figures. If my 'Commit Charge' is 5XXM or above, if I plug any USB devices Windows XP won't recognise them. I have to terminate memory consuming programs (e.g. Firefox), restoring the Commit Charge to 4XXM, then Windows XP will recognised any USB devices I plug in. However, if I plug any USB devices right at the beginning when I turn on the laptop, I won't encounter any problems. Why is this?

If I use Windows Explorer to go deeper than the first level of any tree, CPU usage goes to 100% and stays there. I've disabled System Restore because it wouldn't let me go back in time anyway and this program is a known resource gobbler. Didn't help. I've attached a hijackthis logfile to see if anyone recognizes a Trojan, etc. I would appreciate any help at all.
I am selling with the OS installed (Win XP-Pro), what can I do to ensure that there will be no information at all left on the machine. I used it for MSN, Internet banking, browsing all that stuff, and I'm a little nervous that there will be information accesable by the buyer. I would just do a wipe and reinstall, however, I do not have the OS disc anymore, So I want to clean it up as much as possible. People tell me that I have to get the registry cleaned out. What I am asking is for any tips to ensure a clean machine and registry.

We just finished cleaning NAIL.EXE off the machine, and are now attempting to fix as weird login issue. Whereby it will STALL in both safe and normal mode BEFORE the user selection. It requires a reboot, and eventually the user selection will come up after rebooting enough times.

I'm having problems with XP. The bootup always takes around 5-10 minutes. I've virus scanned and defragged a number of times. My cousin cleaned my registry. My first post here, hope to get some help...my wife is ready to kill me (and vice versa) as she is accusing me of screwing up a month old Dell Dimension 8400.
I'm at work right now writing this so I can't do anything until I get home tonight. Here's the problem...
I tried downloading a cheat for yahoo pool, when McAfee and Webroot Spysweeper picked up a host of adaware and junk trying to get installed I immediately stopped installing (but of course, some got through). After a few minutes the PC decided to shut down on it's own, without me doing anything. I restarted and the same thing happened almost immediately after start up, it shut down on it's own. I restarted using F8 and used the "restart with latest settings that worked" command. Got on and was able to run McAfee and some other programs where a trojan was found and removed. Everything worked fine after and the computer had been on for 5 or 6 days since then.
After a clean install, I'm not having much luck installing Java. All I get is this...any ideas as to how I can fix this?

The default settings is normally huge as disk drives are so big.Users end up with 10s of thousands of files in this folder than can take 20 minutes to clean out. Many IE issues are also resolved by deleting temp internet files. We default the setting "Empty Temporary Internet Files folder when browser is closed" on all systems but this does not seem to always delete everything.
