Migrate C-Drive (Active/Windows) To A New HDD

A SATA-II 250GB hard disk that I want to use to replace my C-Drive (10GB) and D-Drive (20GB),
But My C-Drive (Windows), when I boot how will I partition the new drive, make one ACTIVE and somehow LOAD the ghosted C-drive backup (can I put it on multiple DVDs and make them bootable or something?)
What would be the best way to "backup" these drives? Ghosting? Can this work with such LARGE drives as it would take multiple DVDs?
How to leave the other 3 PATA drives where they are or do I have to change them PATA slots (from Secondary to Primary or just leave them on Secondary and have Primary empty)

I have two internal hard drives and one external for backups. Right now, Win XP is running on the C: drive, of course, and the F: drive is empty. Here's what I want to do:Load XP onto the F: drive. Gradually install all my applications on that drive and get them up and running -- using C: in the meantime for applications that I can't install twice on the same computer, such as Photoshop. Then turn off or remove the C: drive so the computer will recognize (and rename?) the former F: drive as the new C: drive when it boots. My main question is: What sorts of problems will this cause for programs installed on the second drive? I assume that any shortcuts would have to be re-pointed. Aside from busywork like that, what might go wrong? Is it feasible to do what I describe?

I have 2000 some encrypted pictures on hard drive x.(windows xp)Hard drive x is now a slave drive on another computer. I have complete access to hard drive x, but cannot migrate my old profile/keys over to the new computer to decrypt the files.Is there any way to do this short of going back in time and not doing it to begin with?hard drive x gives the stop error when i try to boot with it and the new computer is running windows xp also

My active windows random and frequently become inactive. I'll be in the middle of typing or browsing and all of a sudden, it will be as if I chose some other window and this one is not the main active window. while I'm trying to play a game, when it knocks me back out to my desktop and I have to maxmize the window again.

I am using a 22" wide screen monitor. I am have 2 windows open side by side. IE on the left and MS Word on the right. Is it possible to make both of these active or "on top" or "front" at the same time? As it stands now I when I am using IE and I want to go over to Word, I have to click on word first to make it active and then click again. I realize it's only 1 extra click,If there is a way to this whether it be a setting or a plugin or 3rd party software.

I'm on the internet (in IE7, Windows XP), I click a link or right-click and open link in new window. Then I click back to the first window and continue reading. When the second page has opened not even fully loaded, it becomes the active window, jumps to the front,
Similarly, when I start an application and then click back to my open webpage, when the app has loaded it becomes active. Again, this isn't the case with all software.
If I start the Crystal Reports software, it doesn't steal focus. However, if I start an existing Crystal file, it does.
If I start any of the MS Office programs, they don't steal focus. If I open an Excel file that contains macros (and displays the Disable / Enable macros options when started), then it does.

Every time i try to open any thing (image, zip file, video) basically any file that sends makes windows sends the (%1) argument to the associated program (meaning when zip files makes windows calls for winrar, or videos makes it call for VLC) I get thoes programs windows behind the original window and it gets pretty bad when that happens with a "force always on top" window, I just can't reach for the window behind.

Which window I want to be active. By that I mean if I have two windows open I can't switch between them by clicking on the appropriate window. Instead I have to use alt-tab to do it. If I only have one window open and wish to de-select it as the active window I have to use the windows key to open the start menu clicking on start does nothing, I can only interact with the active window.

To crete active desktop items that will operate as if they were an IE window, so that when you click a button or link it goes to the page in the desktop item without opening a new window but for the items I create the links always open a new IE window.

Windows that the program opens for that particular worksession are in another order than it used to be. As a consequence of that, the tiles on the bottom of the screen are now in a different order than what I am used to. I want to change that so that the tiles on the bottom of the screen are in the same order as before.
Program does not appear to allow any changes in the order in which it opens the windows, so the only option would then be to change the order of the tiles after opening a worksession.

When I hover my mouse on an inactive window it automatically switches to that window and I don't always want to switch to the inactive window
This happens in explorer or internet explorer and all other programs also. It will switch to whatever I hover the mouse over.

As you can see in Disk Managment that I have Drives F;G;H;I listed and under Network Drives I have Q Thru Z. I thought my picture cards used Drives F;G;H;I ?

I have a new External Firewire drive. It has been formated NTFS. In the Disk Managment should it be set Active? I've read that the boot partition must be set Active but this isn't a boot partition.

I want to install a new primary hard drive and reinstall windows xp from scratch on the new c: drive. For the moment I would also like to retain the old disc contents and the xp operating system. To try to do this I installed a second hard drive and cloned the old drive c: to the new drive f:. I created a dual boot computer by editing my boot.ini file so I could boot from either the c: or f: drive. I replaced my primary hard drive with a new drive and booted up in the f: drive. Then I cloned the f: drive back to the new c: drive creating a dual boot system. My concern now is that if I reinstall windows xp on the newly installed hard drive, the Dell installation disk will wipe out the operating system and the contents on the f: drive. Is there any way to retain the old system? I'd appreciate any help with this.

with new instal windows new drive i just recieved a replacement ibm 120 deskstar for my amd athalon im trying to instal from the windows cd everytime iget to the screen that says to creat or delte a partion it show the unpotion drive space i click eneter to instal the partion and it tells me theat there is not a windows compatiable partion to in stall to so i back up and try to cc reat a partion (C) but when i type in the partion space nothing happens the screen just keeps cycle the same options please help.

whenever i formatt my pc and install new windows i find out that i still have the contents of the older windows in the drive in which i install the new windows
2)when i install the norton 360 after formatting it firsts gives no problems but after completing installation it says some error has occured and i need to uninstall and install again

I've just installed a new WD 120 GB hard drive in the second drive bay of my Dell Dimension 8300 running XP (with all current updates). Windows refuses to assign it a drive letter and it can't be seen on My Computer or Windows explorer. Device Manager insists that it is installed and working properly. The problem persists whether the jumpers are for cable select or master-slave.

I purchased a used HP 8575c, Pentium III. History: original OS Windows 98 SE, previous owner installed Windows XP Pro, then computer would not "see" CD-rom or DVD-rom. He admitted to using a "Windows XP activation crack" to bypass registration of XP. He sold me the computer, and I was able to activate the CD-rom & DVD-rom by eliminating the "upperlimit" and "lowerlimit" HKEY settings. I wanted to install Windows 98 SE (my favorite system). I was able to load Windows 98 SE, but lost the CD and DVD again. And this time, there was no "upperlimit" or "lowerlimit" keys available. I decided to load my own Windows XP Pro (legitimate CD with key), but couldn't load it because of no CD capabilities.
I was advised to use a Killdisk floppy to wipe the HD, download the 6 Windows XP boot disks, which would load the needed drivers for the CD and DVD, and I could then load XP normally from the CD. I wiped the hard drive, inserted the 1st XP boot disk, no problem, it then called for disk 2, then this message appeared: file tkrnlmp.exe could not be loaded, error code is 7, setup cannot continue. I can get into bios where I restored defaults, but no change. The windows help site suggested hitting the F7 key when it calls for F6 about installing RAID, etc, but it didn't work. I don't know where to go from here. At this point the computer is a big paperweight.

I recently had a few problems on my laptop, so I reinstalled windows without formatting the drive. Now I guess the windows cd I used had already been installed on my other computer leaving me unable to log on to my laptop because windows thinks my product key is "invalid" and won't activate. So is there any way I could undo this installation of XP leaving the old working one?

I'm running Windows XP SP2 with a 80g HDD (76g to be precise )I have it partitioned into two equal partitions (C: and F. What i'm trying to do is seperate my OS files and my other files.Im not too sure how to go about it however. Is it easier to leave my user files on C and move the windows to F.Im just new to partitioning but I hear if i want to upgrade OS's later i won't need to format complete HDD.

[PROBLEMS SOLVED]
Am now able to access the Samba shares from my Windows Vista machine WITHOUT entering username/password for my Samba user because I made a Samba user equal to my Vista windows user "masterdam79".
I WAS able to select the "Remember my password" checkbox on my Vista machine, first time I logged on into the Ubuntu server and now I never have to type in the credentials again on that machine.

ntldr problem. I used a boot disk to get into windows and it shows all the drives in the right order. windows on c, 2nd drive on d. but it won't boot up. i loaded through a windows disk to try to reinstall windows and it shows that windows is on d; and the other drive is c!!! thats why it cant load on start up. how do i fix this?
