I while ago someone sent me a DAT file on this newsgroup that helped restore the msinfo32.exe file. I can't remember what the file was, though. Could anyone send it me again? Whatever happened to disable msinfo32.exe seems to have happened again, not sure what, but I think it's ZoneAlarm Pro cleaning out the locked DAT files.
When I click on start=>programs=>accessories=>system tools, its shows empty.I would like to know how can I restore my system tools as I would want to perform a system restore for my PC.

I am missing "System Information". I cannot get it from System Tools/System Information nor can I get it by going to Runmsinfo32. It just takes me to Help & Support.
With Windows XP Home shortly after using CleanUp 4.0, I noticed I no longer can access the System Information Tool (msinfo32.exe). When I enter msinfo32 in Run or use Programs > Accessories > System Information it takes me directly to the Help and Support Center. Before I downloaded CleanUp 4.0 I didn't see any "Known Issues" listed at the Steven Gould site concerning this problem. While during a Google search concerning any issues Windows XP and msinfo32.exe
When trying to install or uninstall programsI get: Error 1606 could not access network location %SystemDrive%Documents and SettingsAll UsersStart MenuProgramsAdministrative ToolsAlso I am not able to open the Administrative Tools icon in the Control Panel - it just clicks.A while back after running an anti-spy program, the next time I turned the computer on the desk top was changed, icons missing, etc. and the %SystemDrive% file folder icon was added to the desktop.
I cannot find my "system tools" which should be under >start>all programs>accessories>sytem tools
I have tried doing a search for them. Can you please tell me where to look for them and to put them back where they belong. I want to do a system restore point and can't.
windows Xp dell xps 410, 250gb HDD, 500gb HDD, 3gb memory. I tried to defrag but that would not open. Tried system restore that wouldn't work. Thought maybe it was turned off but found it is on. Tried to open my C drive to browse windows explorer couldn't open got this as a messege cannot find 'RECYCLER5-3-4-42-100005007-100023858-310.com' I can't open my D drive either(500gb hd).
My computer has been freezing up a lot. I tried to use different system tools like msconfig, scandisk, and ect. to try to find and fix the problem, but my computer can't find those tools. I know I had them because they came pre-installed in Windows XP. Lastly I tried to start my computer in safe mode, but when it get to the safe mode drivers loading screen my computer freezes up.
Some time ago (can't remember exactly when) I created a Backup of Files (documents, pictures, etc) using Accessories/Systyem Tools/ MS Backup. Had to restore hard drive after a crash but now can't find MS Backup program to use to restore my Backup. Where can I download this application? Microsft Update has just finished installing all XP updates on my computer but MS Backup is not one of them)
Somehow I did something so that system tools such as Defrag and Device Manager are not working, I get some kind of Microsoft Management Console message that these operations cannot be opened or started.
I tried System Restore, and tried SEVERAL dates! Aaargh...for every single date the computer says the system cannot be restored to this date, even though those dates are in bold and show as restore points. SO WHAT IS THE GOOD OF SYSTEM RESTORE
winxp home, pent 4 processor, when i open start menu andthen for e.g. programs-accessories-system tools or any other program, whilst moving mouse around these windows everything freezes up can only open task manager by pressing cad this shows no activity at all, when i move cursor over it egg timer appears, have to then switch off and start again, have no problems when online, only ondesktop
Working on my pastor's pc running XP Pro and I've the majority of it cleaned up but when I look under where it's supposed to be programs/accesories/system tools>system restore it's not there. I do a file search and it doesn't come up. So, how do I restore the system restore so I can create a restore point? I've never had this before.
I have two computers, bothrunning XP with Service Pack 2. My older one has a program on it called "Easy Cleaner". I ran it recently and must have deleted some system files? as I no longer have access to the Help & Support (accessed from the start menu), the System information and the System Restore facility. Selecting System restore resuklts in a black dos prompt box, but i am unable to type anything into it..it just has a flashing curser. In addition, when I right click on the desktop and select properties I only get the dialogue box showing a modified theme. In order to access the other tabs (to change desktop background for example) I have to select another theme. Exiting from this and then right clicking a gain brings up the single theme box again.
It used to be, when I clicked on All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Information, I would get a small text box that popped up on the screen with a lot of information of the system, including the amount of memory installed and the amount used, the size of the hard drive and the amount used, ect., and it would also have a small text box at the bottom that would let one search system information.
Now, suddenly, when I go to System Information and click on it, it simply gives me the Windows Help and Support Center.I know that I can use Everest to find the same info, but this little Windows info box was handy and quick, especially for just checking memory usage. I think the that it is the Msinfo32.exe But even when I put that in the "Run" box, it still simply gives me the Windows Help and Support Center.
Somehow the system restore option has disappeared from the system tools in the all programs - accessories. When I go to start - my computer - properties - system restore... it appears system restore is on - no checked box for turning it off. Where is it and how do I get it back?
I have windows xp. When I click on start, all prgrams - the list of programs shows up but alot of those folders are empy. Games, System tools, Microsoft Money, Microsoft Office Tools and many others are all empty. I apologize if this is a stupid question.I'm afraid I've done something by mistake to mess these folders up. Any help would be appreciated.
First of all, a SUMMARY: Computer (Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop; Windows XP Home) operating extremely slowly; SERVICES.exe using >99% of CPU (Processor speed c. 1.2GHz) I recently installed DAEMON Tools, the virtual drive programme, and when I first opened it, my laptop slowed to a crawl and stopped responding, meaning I'd to use the 'off' button to switch it off (Ctrl-Alt-Delete didn't work).
Since then, each time I've switched it on, it has been operating as per normal but at a horribly slow speed. I have uninstalled DAEMON, but it seems the problem lies elsewhere; eventually I did get the task manager to come up, and (though it took about 5 minutes) switched to the Processes tab. It turns out that the SERVICES.exe process (run by 'System') is using 99% of my CPU.....

I am unable to use the View / Remote Computer... option in msinfo32.exe to view information on remote computers with the Windows Firewall turned on.It looks like the firewall is blocking traffic on ports 137 and 138, among other things. What must I add to the firewall Exceptions list to fix this problem?
whenever i type in msinfo32.exe into the run box i get windows xp help and support... how do i go about viewing msinfo32 instead of the help and support
How do I add a program to the Open With menu? One of my co-workers does not have the option to choose Excel when she right clicks on text (.txt) files and selects Open With. I've already tried selecting Choose Program and navigating to excel.exe. That does not add it. Other users have the option. These text files are already formatted in a way that will open in Excel with everything in columns without going through the wizard. I don't have any problems editing the registry if that is required as long as I have detailed instructions.
The second open used to give me an error, I fixed that by adding a registry at HKCR*, I had to add the Shell entry there, none previously existed, and then added openas, then command and the default key which I have set to"rundll32.exe shell32.dll,OpenAs_RunDLL %1" The second open takes a while to load (5-10 seconds) and then an "Open With" window appears, but it is the wrong one. It lists the "Recommended Programs" and "Other Programs". I would like the one that when you go over "open with" a list of programs pop up w/o going to this other window. I also downloaded ShellExView, and just to see disabled all of the shell menus, and nothing changed, it worked as it did above.
i have an mdg computer that came with vista, i used it for a while but realized i liked xp bettet so i decided to install it (i got a possibly pirated version from my friend) while look at intel.com for drivers i found out i had to find my system model. The mdg user guide said go to Start->Run and then to type msinfo32. i did that but than an error message popped up and said:cannot find msinfo32 and blah blah search. i went to search typed in msinfo32 opened the one that was in folder system32. than another error message: C:WindowsSystem32msinfo32.exe is not a valid Win32 application.
I've googled this until I'm worn out. I have too many programs in the right-click "open with" menu. Is there any way to remove some? a program maybe? I've posted in other forums and some of the help I get has me reading thru a dozen pages of detailed instructions.
