Log-on Screen Fails To Load
Nov 26, 2006
I'm not sure this is a well-known problem or not but it does happen to me and it's bugging me all the time. I need help! Everytime I try to restart my computer from a perfect shut-down, the log-on screen won't appear and I'll be sticking my eyes to the loading screen. But after sometime maybe in 2 or 3 hours, the log-on screen will appear when u restart the computer again. The safe mode can be accessed and it's working just fine.

This doesn't appear to cause any real problems, other than about the same time, I tried to upgrade Itunes and got an error message that says "error writing to file C:program filesitunesitunes.resourcesko.lproj ingtone.nibobjects.xib. Verify that you have access to that directory".I don't know if the two are related. None of the fixes I have found elsewhere have solved my problem.

I'm currently running Microsoft Windows XP SP2 and, as I'm a Military man not a computer-genius, I am not able to figure out exactly what the problem is upon when I boot my computer. Upon starting up my edition of Microsoft XP (running on a Celeron D, HP Computer) it fails to load/open as fast it normally would. It normally takes about 15 minutes for things to start working until this folder pops-up.Now, I've been hesitant in deleting the folder (so that my computer loads faster) but I'm not quite sure about its contents and don't want to delete the folder unless I know exactly what its contents are. Above is a preview of what the folder contains within it, the folder is named "Common" and that is how it has appeared. When I first got the computer (about a year ago) the folder never appeared to launch during the starting-up period when you first turn the computer on. Until this folder appears, no other program will run and the lag on the computer is enormous. Is there something in which I can do to delete this folder (mind you, I don't know the folders actual location) to stop it from slowing my computer down and causing so many lag issues?

i have a HP Pavilion laptop [dv5117ci] with factory load XP Pro SP2and factory restore discs. the system became corrupted by a failed Win update.
it had multiple files showing bad, so rather than chase them one at a time for an unknowable number of days, I decided to create a new directory and install fresh copy of WinXP Pro
That looked like it was going to work but after being up on the initial boot, wobbly, for about 45 minutes, something caused a freeze, and I was toasted after that. Same routine again: bootup, get error "Windows failed to start because the following file is missing or corrupt"

Can I start a bit vague here as I know nothing about computers.I have a Mesh computer running Windows XP. I upgraded to Vista but ended up with a reformat and reinstalling XP clean and the computer was running fine. For no reason at all (ie no changes were made), Windows suddenly wouldn't load and I got a blue screen with KERNEL-DATA-INPAGE-ERROR (or similar). There was a bit of a delay as I took out the stock Seagate Barracuda 250Gb SATA and couldn't get hold of a replacement so replaced it with a Samsung Spinpoint F1 750Gb which it wouldn't auto-detect for love nor money. My neighbour claims my RAM is OK and the Samsung detected OK in his machine.I therefore took out the Samsung and bought a new Seagate Barracuda 320GB SATA drive and fitted that. The BIOS auto-detected it and I tried to install Windows. It allowed me to create a partition but then proclaimed it couldn't format the disk. I then got a blue screen with PAGE-FAULT-IN-NONPAGED-AREA which variously blamed the partmgr.sys file and the setupdd.sys file.
When you press Enter to continue it says <Setup disk not recognised> or something like that. Sorry to be vague but I'm having to try and remember this in work. Now because the machine has had problems with two hard drives, I'm fairly sure it's not the HDD itself but much beyond that, I'm completely lost.MESH support haven't really been much help and have recently sent me a BIOS update file which I am lothe to use because I'll probably screw the whole thing up and I think I need to resolve the problem before adding any variables...or maybe just buy a new computer.Any pointers would be good. I have no technical knowledge I'm afraid and obviously no access to the internet from the machine itself. I have no boot disk either.

I've tried starting with "last best known configuration" and "safe mode," but both ultimately end with the blue screen and an error message. First my computer was cutting off in the middle of any program. I decided to delete everything on the drive and reformat it and reload windows xp. While trying to load windows xp it would load the set up but when going to load files it locked up everytime. I tried also loading windows 98, 95 and they too locked up. At one point it said I had a virus in my boot sector and at another time it said I had a virus in my RAM. I got a program called PC Beginner to help partition my drive and redo the MBR. I can partition the drive and format it but windows still doesn't load. Now I wonder if there is a problem with the mother board and I have a dual bios board, I was wonder if there is a program loaded in the dual bios that may somehow causing my problem. If so what can be done to clear the problem? How can I get windows reloaded?

I am working on a HP Pavilion a462x running Windows XP Home Edition. The computer will load all the way up to the Windows XP screen, flashes the "blue screen of death", and then reboots. The owner of the computer no longer has any recovery discs. I have run CHKDSK /R several times to no avail. I have a Windows XP Professional disc. Is there any way to create a recover disc for the HP? Am I completely overlooking something?

Recently I installed a new hard drive on my sisters PC. I wanted her to be able to go straight to the desktop after loading and not get the log in screen. so I went to start, run and typed (I think) userpasswords2 or something like that and unchecked the box about passwords being allowed or something. (I found a site that explained how to do it)anyway, now when I try to start up the PC, it gets all the way to the desktop and then super fast an error message comes up that says "Windows could not load." and I can't read the rest because a new screen appears over the top of it that says "Windows is loading" but it stays there for hours and never loads.

All of a sudden my laptop computer has gone absolutly barmey! In normal mode it won't load up Windows at all the screen just goes blank. I can manage to get Windows XP booted up using Safe Mode but the screen goes absolutly mad like a sort of snow storm: Screenshot. At first I thought that this was a faulty monitor but it can't be because the poor picture quality shows up in the screenshot. The picture is also blocky when the computer is loading up on the boot screens. I've got avast! Pro and Zone Alarm Pro running, both of which are up to date.

I switched on the PC (Have a dell with xp) to find a blue screen with asking me to do something to anti virus .. run chkdsk /f and then a code: STOP: 0 X 00000024 (0 X 00190203, 0X8239C2CO, 0 XC0000102, 0X00000000)
Well I would run chkdsk /f but cant!
It wont load in safe mode/last known figuration etc.. just reverts back to the blue screen.
Most sites seem to sugggest running the XP disc. When I put this in, I press F12 as soon as I get the PC on, then 4, then any key to boot from Cd. Then a screen which says Press Enter to setup XP, Press R to enter the recovery console etc.. However when I press either Enter or R the screen appears as though its doing something for a brief second, but sticks on the same screen for hours with a message on the bottom saying : Examining 152587 mb Disc 0 at ID 0 on bus 0... It didnt do this last time i had a blue screen problem about 6 months ago, just loaded up staright away.
So I am stuck. Either it goes back to the blue screen or it supposedly examaning something. Is it supposed to take ages?! I tried F8 and all the Safe Mode/Config options. If there was another way to run chkdsc /f I might be ok but I really haven't got a clue and seem to be going round in circles.
i need any kind of help that doesnt just say boot from the windows XP installation cd- because I cant,To my knowledge nothing new has been installed...

I had a copy of windows xp home addition i think. I have a copy of Professional i was going to put on the computer. It was doing the normal load that i have seen window do before when loading on other computers. Then it came to a blue screen that said something to the affect of Windows startup is installing. It used to go to the loading screen then shut itself off and start again. I went to bios trying to figure out why it doesn't load. Now after the blue screen saying it is restarting setup it now goes to a black screen with a blinking cursor that i can move.

I can enter, and did, f2 startup. I read where I needed to delete an old partition, did, now nt4 startup disk with not load, as i am prompted that the drive is too big (3.99). I cant seem to partition the drive? I would like to just start from scratch, wipe drive, start over..I just want to get this going so I could update nt4 (currently has sp1). My Windows start-up is pretty decent (after I log-in to my user account). What's taking too long is the "Windows Is Starting Up" screen:It takes about 5 mins. or so before the log-in screen shows up. Anyway, here's what happened prior to this event:
My Windows XP OS has just been repaired due to a stop error. One of my RAM cards (I have two installed previously) has also been removed because the technician deemed that it was the cause of the stop error. Now my question is, is it the cause of the slow down? I mean having a smaller RAM? I'm thinking that it could be the cause but I'm having second thoughts because I only had 1 RAM card installed way back but the stalling of the "Windows is starting up" screen never happened. I've had a slow running PC, yes, but I never had to wait that long for the "log-in" screen to show up (10 seconds tops). I only have 6.46 GB free space now which is small

A few weeks ago it started freezing and restarting randomly. Sometimes, on restarting, I would get the "Serious error" pop-up, which I always sent, and always got different results. Sometimes it would say it was an unknown driver error, sometimes an anti-virus error, once a RAM error. I had just upgraded the RAM when this started, so I ran the M$ testing tool several times, no errors. I also removed the new RAM, which didn't solve the problem, and put it back in

Turned the computer on today and Windows will not load, gets as far as the black Windows XP page with the loading scroll bar. Nothing happens beyond that. Everything was working fine yesterday and nothing was downloaded or installed to indicate where to start looking. Tried installing 1GB RAM last month to no avail and took it out. Things have been okay since. Have read some posts that suggest using the Windows install CD to repair whatever but I didn't get one with the computer only have the Windows recovery disk.

My computer is a Pentium 4 with 512 MB of RAM with Windows XP Professional Installed. I'm really wondering why this computer starts up so slowly. From the moment I press the power button to the moment the welcome screen appears, it takes 2 minutes. It then takes another 2 minutes for the welcome screen to disappear and show the desktop and load all the startup items in the taskbar. That's a total of 4 minutes and I had older Celeron computers which started up way faster than this. I already removed all unnecessary items in startup yet it hasn't changed much. I would really appreciate if someone could help me with this.
