Computer Wont Load Welcome Screen?
May 31, 2008
Im trying to help my sister fix her emachines computer. It will not load the windows screen and it constantly keeps trying to restart. It wont load in safe, safe with networking or last known good configuration. I tried to run the emachines recovery on the system and it seems to get hung up on a please wait screen. I dont have the CDs that came with the system. Is there any way to fix this?

My Medion PC running Windows XP loads past the windows loading screen then simply goes black but the computer is still on and the screen is still active. My dual boot of Ubuntu works perfectly as does safe mode. Ive had this issue for a while but it used to turn on after i rebooted it but now it only turns on occasionally. Also I'm almost certain its got nothing to do with my hardware.

First my computer was cutting off in the middle of any program. I decided to delete everything on the drive and reformat it and reload windows xp. While trying to load windows xp it would load the set up but when going to load files it locked up everytime. I tried also loading windows 98, 95 and they too locked up. At one point it said I had a virus in my boot sector and at another time it said I had a virus in my RAM. I got a program called PC Beginner to help partition my drive and redo the MBR. I can partition the drive and format it but windows still doesn't load. Now I wonder if there is a problem with the mother board and I have a dual bios board, I was wonder if there is a program loaded in the dual bios that may somehow causing my problem. If so what can be done to clear the problem? How can I get windows reloaded?

I'm not sure this is a well-known problem or not but it does happen to me and it's bugging me all the time. I need help! Everytime I try to restart my computer from a perfect shut-down, the log-on screen won't appear and I'll be sticking my eyes to the loading screen. But after sometime maybe in 2 or 3 hours, the log-on screen will appear when u restart the computer again. The safe mode can be accessed and it's working just fine.

I am working on a HP Pavilion a462x running Windows XP Home Edition. The computer will load all the way up to the Windows XP screen, flashes the "blue screen of death", and then reboots. The owner of the computer no longer has any recovery discs. I have run CHKDSK /R several times to no avail. I have a Windows XP Professional disc. Is there any way to create a recover disc for the HP? Am I completely overlooking something?

Recently I installed a new hard drive on my sisters PC. I wanted her to be able to go straight to the desktop after loading and not get the log in screen. so I went to start, run and typed (I think) userpasswords2 or something like that and unchecked the box about passwords being allowed or something. (I found a site that explained how to do it)anyway, now when I try to start up the PC, it gets all the way to the desktop and then super fast an error message comes up that says "Windows could not load." and I can't read the rest because a new screen appears over the top of it that says "Windows is loading" but it stays there for hours and never loads.

All of a sudden my laptop computer has gone absolutly barmey! In normal mode it won't load up Windows at all the screen just goes blank. I can manage to get Windows XP booted up using Safe Mode but the screen goes absolutly mad like a sort of snow storm: Screenshot. At first I thought that this was a faulty monitor but it can't be because the poor picture quality shows up in the screenshot. The picture is also blocky when the computer is loading up on the boot screens. I've got avast! Pro and Zone Alarm Pro running, both of which are up to date.

I switched on the PC (Have a dell with xp) to find a blue screen with asking me to do something to anti virus .. run chkdsk /f and then a code: STOP: 0 X 00000024 (0 X 00190203, 0X8239C2CO, 0 XC0000102, 0X00000000)
Well I would run chkdsk /f but cant!
It wont load in safe mode/last known figuration etc.. just reverts back to the blue screen.
Most sites seem to sugggest running the XP disc. When I put this in, I press F12 as soon as I get the PC on, then 4, then any key to boot from Cd. Then a screen which says Press Enter to setup XP, Press R to enter the recovery console etc.. However when I press either Enter or R the screen appears as though its doing something for a brief second, but sticks on the same screen for hours with a message on the bottom saying : Examining 152587 mb Disc 0 at ID 0 on bus 0... It didnt do this last time i had a blue screen problem about 6 months ago, just loaded up staright away.
So I am stuck. Either it goes back to the blue screen or it supposedly examaning something. Is it supposed to take ages?! I tried F8 and all the Safe Mode/Config options. If there was another way to run chkdsc /f I might be ok but I really haven't got a clue and seem to be going round in circles.
i need any kind of help that doesnt just say boot from the windows XP installation cd- because I cant,To my knowledge nothing new has been installed...

I had a copy of windows xp home addition i think. I have a copy of Professional i was going to put on the computer. It was doing the normal load that i have seen window do before when loading on other computers. Then it came to a blue screen that said something to the affect of Windows startup is installing. It used to go to the loading screen then shut itself off and start again. I went to bios trying to figure out why it doesn't load. Now after the blue screen saying it is restarting setup it now goes to a black screen with a blinking cursor that i can move.

I am trying to become computer smart......still working on it. My problem....Blue screen will not load nt4 os......BS states memory dump. Tried to restart......not working. I can enter, and did, f2 startup. I read where I needed to delete an old partition, did, now nt4 startup disk with not load, as i am prompted that the drive is too big (3.99). I cant seem to partition the drive? I would like to just start from scratch, wipe drive, start over..I just want to get this going so I could update nt4 (currently has sp1). I think I have my work cutout for me.

My Windows start-up is pretty decent (after I log-in to my user account). What's taking too long is the "Windows Is Starting Up" screen:It takes about 5 mins. or so before the log-in screen shows up. Anyway, here's what happened prior to this event:
My Windows XP OS has just been repaired due to a stop error. One of my RAM cards (I have two installed previously) has also been removed because the technician deemed that it was the cause of the stop error. Now my question is, is it the cause of the slow down? I mean having a smaller RAM? I'm thinking that it could be the cause but I'm having second thoughts because I only had 1 RAM card installed way back but the stalling of the "Windows is starting up" screen never happened. I've had a slow running PC, yes, but I never had to wait that long for the "log-in" screen to show up (10 seconds tops). I only have 6.46 GB free space now which is small

A few weeks ago it started freezing and restarting randomly. Sometimes, on restarting, I would get the "Serious error" pop-up, which I always sent, and always got different results. Sometimes it would say it was an unknown driver error, sometimes an anti-virus error, once a RAM error. I had just upgraded the RAM when this started, so I ran the M$ testing tool several times, no errors. I also removed the new RAM, which didn't solve the problem, and put it back in

Turned the computer on today and Windows will not load, gets as far as the black Windows XP page with the loading scroll bar. Nothing happens beyond that. Everything was working fine yesterday and nothing was downloaded or installed to indicate where to start looking. Tried installing 1GB RAM last month to no avail and took it out. Things have been okay since. Have read some posts that suggest using the Windows install CD to repair whatever but I didn't get one with the computer only have the Windows recovery disk.

My computer is a Pentium 4 with 512 MB of RAM with Windows XP Professional Installed. I'm really wondering why this computer starts up so slowly. From the moment I press the power button to the moment the welcome screen appears, it takes 2 minutes. It then takes another 2 minutes for the welcome screen to disappear and show the desktop and load all the startup items in the taskbar. That's a total of 4 minutes and I had older Celeron computers which started up way faster than this. I already removed all unnecessary items in startup yet it hasn't changed much. I would really appreciate if someone could help me with this.

Everytime I boot up my computer I get a message that my computer had shut down for a safety reason, power failure, inproper shut down etc, so I am given theses options:
1.Start Normally
2.Start at last working configuration (setting that my cpu last worked properly)
3.Safe mode
3.safe mode with networking
4.safe mode & something else (sorry I forget exactly)
Currently, I have to disable the other computer so I can get online with this one, so I may not be exactly wording the messages given.........

I have got a HP Laptop that is about a year a half old, its top of the range. I had my laptop in Hibernate mode the other night and the next afternoon I went to turn it back on there was a blank screen for a long time, all the lights on the laptop were on but nothing on the screen. I turned the laptop off and then back on again. and BOOM! The blue screen of death! The computer starts up with the HP logo and then it pops up a screen saying that a previous attempt to start up had failed and it gave me options to start up in safe mode, safe mode with networking, safe mode with command prompt, start with the previous successfull start config, and normal start up. When i click ANY of these the windows logo pops up for about 3 seconds and then the blue screen, which appears for long enough for me to read 3 letters or numbers at a time. Then the computer restarts and we go through the whole process again. This is what I have done in the hope of fixing it.
I used my HP retore disks and it loaded disk 1 of 3 and it didnt ask for the other 2 disks which i thought was odd. But that made no differeance still the same start up process as explained above. The blue screen made mention of chkdsk and i read about some poeple on the net doing a chkdsk and it fixing similar problems. So i read that i needed a xp install disk to access the windows recovery console and type r. BUT i have a OEM installation so i have NO disks! So what i did was i got the XP Pro disk i have from a few years ago that i had on Desktop. BUT when it goes into recovery console it can not find any hard drives!
#Ive tried spinrite and it reads all the hard drives in the computer so i know that they are still there.
#I've tried to find some chkdsk bootable cd's but most are either floppy only or they only for FAT16/32 file systems, my file system is NTFS.I'am convinced from the research done that if I can run CHKDSK on the computer then it should fix the file error and then i can at least back up my data and then do a full format and start fresh again. But I have to be able to get this computer running.I just tried the "Last Known Good Configuration" selection and it says that the system32/config/SYSTEM file is missing.I would welcome any help, as I have exhausted all options that I can see available to me. From what I can see, the biggest problem is that im running a OEM version of windows. But then again the recovery console couldnt find the hard drives, so i dont know.

I recently re-installed win. xp on the dell insperation 2400. Everything went find except the resoluton wouldn't change from the 480 x ...so I tried to set up my dial up but I needed a higher resolution. I did finally find a way to get that although it was very poor quality and I figured that I'd be able to down load the proper driver once on line, which I did do, although I'm not sure it was the right one, as dell doesn't seem to have anything for that model of pc. Anyway I also downloaded the Microsoft updates to get back to current for the secruity stuff. When that was done it required restart, which I did. When it restarted the monitor remained blank after the win. xp part was done loading. I know its on and that my pc is sitting there running, but I can't see anything. I restarted using F5 and tried; last known good configuration, vga mode, and safe mode. In the 1st 2 no monitor. In safemode the whole screen filled with a dos like line repeated over again to fill the whole screen, then a message came on that said, "stop!!! fatal error and I can't remember what else. Can you help? I guess I should mention that I don't have the right driver disk that came with the pc.
