Where is the IE6 folder/data stored in the windows folder? Or is it even stored there? i looked around a little, wasn't to great of a search.. but does any one know? and not mind yelling at me for it.

I have a HP Pavilion a250Y running a Pentium 4 with WinXP Home.
The "installed" 80GB HD has had it's boot sector scrambled and will no longer boot up. I installed a second 20GB HD from a previous HP computer that I now have up and running with Win XP Home. I want to reformat the 80GB HD and would like to temporarily store data from this drive onto the 20GB HD. The main concern I have is that the larger drive is formated in NTSF and the smaller in FAT32.
Questions:
#1 Can I store the NTSF data on the FAT32 drive just to keep it protected with only the intent to transfer it back to the 80GB HD after reformating?
I have XP fax working fine except I want all incoming faxes to auto store into a folder on another hard drive on another computer. I can't get it to do anything other than store into a folder on the computer it is installed on. All the other computers are accessable via the LAN etc.

So basically, what is it? What's it do? Is it OK to delete? Etc.

I've recently had a problem when opening many programs such as Microsoft Office, iTunes, etc. When I try to open them Windows Installer appears and there is an error message stating that an error occurred while attempting to create the directory C: DocumentsandSettings/AllUsers/Application Data - then the program fails to open. When I found this Application Data folder and tried to open it there is a message saying it is corrupt and unreadable. Any ideas as how to repair this folder? as I currently cannot open many programs on my computer due to this error. Thanks in advance! btw I have Windows XP Pro

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to set up some accounts on my XPSP3 system. I have some accounts set up, but wanted to change some names. I know that if I change an account name, the directory name stays the same, and I didn't want to get confused later on if I was ever doing some stuff on that directory level.I used this page to copy the settings from my account (named "Main") to a new account named "Admin". I had problems getting access to the folder while in the 3rd account, so followed the instructions here to gain access. Once I got it copied, I loaded Admin and found it looked exactly like Main, which is what I wanted.But then, I went into Main and most everything was gone, and XP was acting as if it was a brand new account. I then went into Documents and Settings and found there were now TWO Main accounts. "Main" and "Main.DARKSIDE" (DARKSIDE is the "full computer name" found in System Properties). I can tell by the directory sizes that Main is the fresh, new account I see in my account list and Main.DARKSIDE appears to be my original Main account (being over 6GB in size).
View 13 Replies View RelatedToday I copied a large folder containing multiple Access databases, Excel workbooks, Word docs, etc. to a totally blank jump drive like I have done 100s of times before. But for the first time in my 'computer life', which started in 1980(!), a file appeared on it with the name EA DATA.SF. Googling the file told me that it was a system file and had something to do with Extended Attributes (whatever that is). But the file is protected; attempts to delete it, even using the command prompt and first removing all attributes (attrib -h -s -r ea*.sf) does not allow it to be deleted.
The Google search showed many cases like this, but none where there was a clear, easy way to delete the file. My questions are:What is this file for/what does it do? Why am I seeing it for the first time in 30 years? How can I delete it. or SHOULD I delete it?
i accidently deleted my temporary internet files folder - now i can not connect to the internet - what can i do to fix this problem?

It used to be just fine, until I installed some pay-for-viewing add program. I have uninstalled it since then, but the slowness remains. And the processor is hogged, at the highest level, even though i killed many a startup processes.

When i browse to certain directories, mainly ones with video files, i get the following "Data Execution Prevention - Windows has encountered a problem and needs to close." I have tried disabling DEP for windows explorer and now i dont get the DEP message, but i still get "Windows has encountered a problem and needs to close." I've had a similar problem with my old computer where certain video files would cause windows explorer to crash, and i believe the same thing is happening here except that my new CPU uses the DEP feature.

I turned it on today and when I open my Internet Explorer I get the message "Page cannot be displayed" My Netscape browser works fine. I called Comcast they ran all the diagnosis from their end and said something got corrupted in Internet Explorer. I use MSN as my ISP, and before, i could access internet explorer, or firefox, or any program without ever actually having to sign in to MSN. after the crash, however, i now have to sign in to access internet explorer, firefox, and a couple programs. what angers me, however, is that i DONT have to sign in to access trillian. View 7 Replies View RelatedI made the change below however, if I click on a folder in the left hand "Folders" pane, it works as before and opens the folder and displayed in the contents in the right hand pane.
However, if I click on any folders in the right hand (files pane) a new windows explorer window opens a displays the "my documents".
The same thing happens if you click on a shortcut to a folder. Instead of the folder opening, it opens a new window and displays "my documents".
This problems started when I added a new function to the folder file folder file type properties to print out the contents of a folder by calling a batch file that piped the content to a file.
In the file association for file folders in the advanced section I now have three functions
- the afore mentioned 'create file list'
- explore (the default), and
- find
For the folder file type I just have:
- explore and
- open
Any suggestions on how to put things back to the way Windows Explorer always worked before make clicking folders in the right hand pane open them up properly in the same window as per clicking them on the left hand pane?
I am having problems starting both Internet Explorer and Windows Explorer. Both generate the same error: "Internet (or Windows) Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." The details show that ole32.dll is the guilty module. So far I've had no success in locating a solution. I am using Windows XP Home Edition. I should also note that the control panel won't function either since it is basically part of Windows Explorer.
