Installing On SATA Drive In Dell M1330

Aug 19, 2007

I've read all the reports and "in theory" I know what I need to do. However, I haven't been able to pull it off yet. Here goes:

I hate Vista. I'm installing XP.
I have a SATA drive. I don't have a floppy drive.
I believe I can do it in the BIOS.

I've changed the HD setting in the BIOS from SATA to ATA (my only choice). XP installs fine. But now I need to change it back to SATA. I do that, restart and I get the blue screen with an automatic restart. I'm sure I need to add the SATA drivers somewhere, but I'm not sure where or how.

Installing On Gateway Laptop SATA HD With No Floppy Drive

Apr 11, 2008

I've looked around and I'm having a hard time finding good info on this. I've looked up stuff like slipstreaming SATA drivers into the windows disc, but I don't think I'm doing it right. I got the correct SATA drivers from gateways website. I'm pretty sure this system just uses the intel SATA Chipset. Any way if anyone could help me install XP on my Gateway C-141XL laptop without having a floppy disc I'd really appreciate it.

Installing DELL SP1 Cd Onto New Hard Drive

A few days ago my hard drive crapped the bed so I bought a new one. I was wondering if I should do something different than what I was gonna do. I have the original Dell Windows XP SP1 cd that came with my Dell computer. I am going to install it on my new hard drive. After I do this should I go to www.microsoft.com and download the SP2 or should I do something different altogether? I just wanna make sure I have all the windows security updates on the new hard drive.

Barts PE Not Recognizing Hard Drives On Dell PC With SATA

After rebooting with Barts PE CD with ISO image, it looked fine and booted okay into Barts PE---BUT---it could not see my hard drives.

Sata Drivers While Installing 64

Oct 24, 2008

I'm trying to set up a dual-boot with Ubuntu and XP64. Initially I just had Ubuntu on my one sata hdd and XP on an ide hdd. I decided it'd be better running XP on the sata drive too, so I resized my linux partition with gparter, and created a new NTFS partition. The problem is, when I try to install XP onto the drive, it cannot seem to see the sata drive. Nothing was listed at all except the ide drives and my usb drive.I did some looking and found the 64 bit sata drivers for my motherboard, managed to load them onto a floppy and load them into the XP setup. This was all fine again until the time to select a partition, where it seemed to list the drive, but only shows 'Unknown disk' 'There is no disk in the drive'.I tried deleting the partition I made with gparter to see if XP could at least see the 'unallocated space' but to no avail.I even tried making a boot disk in nLite with the sata drivers, but it made no difference (not really surprisingly). If I try to use the 32 bit drivers that came with my mobo, it won't let me install XP.I'm all out of ideas to why it won't work.

Clean Installing Pro SP2 On SATA Drives

Feb 25, 2006

It's looking like I have to re-install C+XP Pro SP2. I have never installed XP Pro SP2 before myself on SATA drives - I know that you used to have to get the hard disc drivers from somewhere first so you could use them in the set up process. I've never done this either! Is this still an issue with XP SP2 (I have a full install Windows XP Pro SP2 CD). If so, could someone outline the details for me or point me in the right direction web wise.

Installing SATA Raid Drivers?

Dec 3, 2006

My computer came preinstalled with a whole bunch of HP garbage I didn't want.. So I bought a copy of WINxp pro and tried to install.. Upon doing this It couldn't read my hard drive, which I later determined was due to the fact it is a SATA hard drive and the XP install cd doesnt have the drivers for it. Solution was, I changed a setting in my computer's BIOS to change the raid mode to IDE instead of SATA, then the install proccess went fine. Problem is now I have to keep it at IDE, and if I turn it back to SATA the computer retstarts after the Starting Windows screen with the Windows icon, I assume this is due to the fact that Windows didn't bother installing any SATA drivers since I installed in IDE mode... Could somone please point me in the right direction as to what I need to install/configure to allow WIN to boot up with my BIOS using SATA mode?

Boot Drive Letter Changed After Cloning To New SATA Drive

May 25, 2004

I installed a Serial ATA hard drive. Booted from floppy, partitioned and formatted 120mb HD,with 2 partitions.

Connected my old IDE drive and booted from Norton Ghostdisc, cloned my old drive to the new one. Removed all drives and USB card readers except the new SATA drive. Windows will not fully boot, it halts at the blue Windows intro screen. Restarted Windows, and scandisk ran, but indicated drive letter "H" not "C", so I guess the windows installation is still looking in the original place for it's files, ie. the "C" drive, that's why it won't boot. You cannot change the "System" drive letter from "Computer Management" within XP, and I cannot get into Windows anyway. Is there a "work around" for this, other than a clean install? Even then, is it still going to be drive "H"? And that means another Windows activation. How many goes do you get for activation? I tried a windows repair installation, and reactivation (wasted). Windows then worked, sort of. Lots of things were missing and programs unuseable,as they were looking for their files on "C": so I went back to square 1, put my old drive back in for the moment

Clone IDE To Sata From Dell Dimension 2400 For Dimension 8400

Feb 12, 2010

I have a Dell Dimension 2400 1.6ghz 1gb RAM with XP Pro on it for several years now. It has many programs installed on it. I purchased a faster used Dell Dimension 8400 3.6ghz hyperthreading 3gb RAM with XP Pro on it.My question is simple. My Dimension 2400 has an IDE hard drive and the 8400 has SATA. Rather than spend days re-installing and tweaking all of the programs on the 8400 I tried the following. I used Acronis Easy Migrate 7 to Image the IDE hard drive to the SATA hard drive and installed it into the 8400. It would not boot, I tried a repair install, then while booting I get a blue screen stop Error 0x0000007B. What do I have to do to fix this so it will boot?

Upgrading Hard Drive - New SATA Drive

Sep 17, 2005

I recently bought a new system with XP home already installed. Now I find that I should have installed the new SATA hard drive for better perfomance with my new P4 dual layered processor. I have ordered the new SATA 80 GB drive and would expect that when I install the XP on it I will have to call microsoft to activate it on the hard drive (since it was originally installed on the hard drive that I got with the new system). Any issues here or just call and explain the upgrade during the activation? (Understood that I will have to reinstall my other software again) As a follow up to this, would there be any problem slaving the original drive on the same IDE ribbon as the new SATA drive?

Won't Recognize SATA Hard Drive

Jan 25, 2007

I have an HP Media PC M400Y. It is a P4 3.0 Ghz with 1GB ram. It originally came with MCE2002. Last week I upgraded to MCE2005 to use the media extender feature with my new X-box 360.
Here is the problem and some background.

About a year ago, I had installed a second SATA hard drive, Seagate Baracuda 300GB, model ST3300831AS. This drive was plug and play into the motherboard and never had any issues. Before reformating the main C: drive, I moved all my valuable data on the SATA drive.

I then turned the PC off, removed the power and signal cables from the SATA drive. (I'm a novice, and didn't want to take any chances of erasing the SATA drive, while reformating the main C drive)

Not Detecting SATA Hard Drive

Jan 7, 2010

So I was bored today and began creating a old Pentium 4 System out of old PC parts around the house. Now, I have assembled everything and have tested all the parts and all are working fine, However when I go to install Windows XP on the machine it will not detect the Hard Drive (On the Partition Screen). Now I thought it may be a hard drive problem so I connected the hard drive up to my current PC and ran the XP Installation fine. However, Now when I try to boot the XP I installed on the hard drive off of my other system it will get to the splash screen and restart, so I turned off automatic restart on system failure and I get the 0x0000007B Stop error.

So I retried the XP installation on the system again, got to the Partition and Hard Drive selection screen and still no Hard Drive to be seen, I plugged in a USB and it detected it fine.I have tried booting in safe mode & every option under F8, However it just restarts on the XP splash screen, And as I said the hard drive seems fine as it comes up in bios and my main PC ran it fine, So I'm beginning to think that i'm in need of my motherboards SATA Drivers or something.
