Installing On Dell Dimension 4600 - Installed CD Burner
May 29, 2006
Last year I installed a CD burner in this computer. After I installed it I lost access to both Cdroms. I had tried to installed XP using 6 flopies loaned to me, but when I get to the last(6) flopy it restart on the already active XP. I do not know if it is a problem with my motherboard or what. I can not get to format the drive so I can reinstall windows. The version currently on the computer is XP SP2. I would not mind having to loose all my information on the drive rigth now, but I need to be able to access my CDroms.
I would like to know if I should upgrade my old Dell Dimension 4600 or if I should go ahead and get a new computer. If anyone has any suggestions, that would be greatly appreciated! For example, more memory, extra hard drive I would appreciate it, if you guys explain everything to me in layman's term. The specs of my computer are:Windows xp home edition Pentium 4 2.8 ghz processor 160 gb hard drive intergrated graphics 1.5 gb 400 mhz ram Cd and Dvd burner
This has probably been asked before so feel free to respond with a link.I have a dell Dimension 4600 which i have reinstalled windows xp HE on countless times. It has never mentioned its license or asked for the code on the side.My friend has dell Inspiron 2500 laptop. She has had it for 6-7 years now and has never done a reinstall or reformat, so naturally its on its last legs.
Replaced old wd 160gig serial ATA HD with WD5000AAKS sata HD on Dell Dimension 4600. When trying to install XP, get error: filei386halaacpi.dll could not be loaded. The error code is 7.
I have a 4600 dimension , not sure how this is. but when the system boots up it gives the dell logo screen f-2 & f-12 deal then it comes up please select the operating system to start, both options are microsoft windows XP Home Edition, how do I get this thing to skip this screen and just boot up? What would of been done to cause this? as there are 2 listings and if I arrow down to the second one to tell it to start from it , this comes up.Windows could not start because of a computer disk hardware configuration problem,Could not read from the selected boot disk. Check boot path and disk hardware. Please check the windows documentation about hardware disk configuration and your hardware reference manuals for additional information.
I just installed a new hard drive on my computer, it is a dell dimension E521, it had windows vista os on it, this was installed on the pc when I bought it ,after putting my new hard drive in I didn't have a recovery disk with windows vista but I did have an xp cd from my laptop so I've used it. The windows xp installed just fine on my pc but the problem I've run into is the drivers, the disk that came with it wouldn't work so I went to dell's website put in my service tag and downloaded all the drivers that it says my pc needs. everything installed ok except for my broadcom, which is not allowing internet, my warranty on this computer is out so I can't get any advise from them without paying a fee even though I bought the hard drive from them, and the computer! Just hoping I could get some help, and wondering if I have to install vista for everything to work right.
I am working on a PC for a friend and after installing Adaware,Spybot S&D, Spywareblaster and Avast I found too many things wrong with the PC and was trying to just reinstall Windows instead. I followed Dells instructions to Hold down Control and then hit F11 and then release both at the same time to get to the restore screen. Well it never came up and I got to the Safe Mode Last Known Good Configuration screen instead. I kept trying and nothing would change, so I picked Safe Mode. Now all I get is the BSOD that states Unmountable boot volume. Stop Error 0x000000ed (0x83376900,0xc0000006,0x0000000,0x0000000)
the screen keeps blinking after the post tests. I dont see any text, i dont think its a video card issue. I see the bios screen. I reboted the comp, formatted it, and when windowsw was abotut to install the screen gets messed up. Whats wrong
I have a Dell Dimension 2400 1.6ghz 1gb RAM with XP Pro on it for several years now. It has many programs installed on it. I purchased a faster used Dell Dimension 8400 3.6ghz hyperthreading 3gb RAM with XP Pro on it.My question is simple. My Dimension 2400 has an IDE hard drive and the 8400 has SATA. Rather than spend days re-installing and tweaking all of the programs on the 8400 I tried the following. I used Acronis Easy Migrate 7 to Image the IDE hard drive to the SATA hard drive and installed it into the 8400. It would not boot, I tried a repair install, then while booting I get a blue screen stop Error 0x0000007B. What do I have to do to fix this so it will boot?
I am trying to fix a Dell Dimensions 4600 PC that is not working. When I turn it on it sounds like it is running, but nothing is showing up on the screen. It is not the Monitor as that works fine with another computer. What do you think the problem could be
I am rebuilding a Dell 4600i with 2.8g CPU, 2g ram. 80g hd,dvd drive. After having a time getting the system to boot with windows XP home edition, I now have 2 other issues. one it shows only 16 bit operation, why not 32 or 64bit? Second a short time after booting up the the monitor goes blank, cannot do anything after that. I had to format the HD and reload windows XP to get the computer to do anything, then it did it again.
My computer was going slow and pop-ups like crazy. So I backed up all of my information and got a new install disk from Dell. Heres the problem, When installing it keeps getting hung up on 36, 16, or 9 mins. It will not pass that point. I have exhausted all of my options, I restart checked all the cables, drained the power by pulling the cord and holding the power button then plugging it back in. Then called dell and they walked me through wiping the HD clean, by starting up in DOS and walking me through the steps. Well did all that and started install again, and once again it got hung up on 23 mins
My brothers Dell Dimension 4600 will not put out any video signal. I've tried two working monitors and nothing. I can hear the harddrive working in a somewhat normal manner just after power on but there is never a hint from the monitor. Anyway, I offered to at least pop off the side cover and take a look for any hint of what may be the problem. Since he just moved to another town, his computer was subjected to the usual transportation handling etc. So what would be the usual things to check. I've never had a Dell or Windows XP Home. (I have Win98SE and Win2kp) Kinda hard to do anything right off when there is no video
Windows Media Player 11 will not recognize the CD burner when you attempt to burn a CD by selecting "Burn" on the player. I also have Roxio Creator LE software and it burns CD's with no problem. The hardware devise check says the CD devise is working normal and it is selected for recording.
Transferred all information from Dimension (Dell) to Dell XPS 410. Both computers using XP program. When I start to use my Picasa program I have a continual pop up that says " The DLL "cpuinf32.dll" can not be loaded. OS reports: The specifdied module could not be fouind. Am no computeer whiz--so this is all "Greek" to me. What should I do to correct this?
I recently returned to Kliptsch a pair of speakers which were not functioning well. While waiting for the replacements, I am unable to get any sound out of the computer. This includes streaming radio broadcasts as well as TV clips.
I first had this problem when I tried to do the first installation. When it would get to the part of the setup in windows mode, it would just keep rebooting. I was able to finally get it to finish installing, and it seemed to be working fine, untill I tried to make sure all my drivers, applications, and my cable internet conection were installed.
I often but not always get an error message when working online. I am not sure whether it is a dell problem or my internet service provider. I have dial up. A small box pops up in my face and it says . . . windows must now shut down because the RPC service terminated. System shutdown initiated by NT/AUTHORITY then it counts down 60 sec and shuts off my computer. I have no control when it does this, i cannot X it out or make it stop. Very annoying. Sometimes it goes for hours and does not do anything, sometimes it will do it 3 times in 30 min. I have scanned for virus' and it comes up clear.
i'm working on a dell dimension 2400.windows crashed and there are no restore cds.i formated the hardrive and installed win xp professional.in device manager i don't have drivers for the ethernet controller and the usb controller.does anyone know where i can find these?
I've got an old Dell Dimension XPS T450 Pent-450 which had Windows Me but I put 2000 in it. Ran fine untill I tried to add memory. I put the memory back the way it was but now I get a window saying "THE LOGON USER INTERFACE DLL MSGINA DLL FAILED TO LOAD" What do I do to fix this problem?
I have really screwed up my computer --dell dimension 2400 ? talk about a mess. I wanted to clean off the hard drive, so I tried to reinstall xp using a friend?s cd because the only xp cd I could find was an upgrade (from win98).I don?t know what I did wrong (or if the problem was with the cd), but setup got into a loop we could not get out of.Since I had my xp cd to upgrade from 98, we tried to install win98. It did clean off the hard drive, but it failed to install completely and now the cd drive will not work. And when I click on IE, an error message ?Msoobe? comes up and says it has perfomed an illegal operation and shuts down.My brother also has a dell dimension 2400, and he thought there was a way to reset the computer to its original configuation. I tried the Control+F11 that he suggested, but the screen says it needs a device file to run that it cannot find. There is a line that reads Vnetbios.
I am looking to upgrade the memory on my Dell Dimension 2400 to at least 512 mb. I have heard that you have to purchase a specific kind of ram (dell certified?) and that it won't just use any kind of brand. Is this true? If so, can someone point me in the right direction.I know that it must be DDR PC2700/333 but I'm unclear as to which brand to buy.I spoke with Dell and hung up unclear (she spoke very poor english) so really got nowhere.
i did a clean install for a dell desktop 2400 and i'm having trouble finding the drivers i need. I went to dell.com and the ones i have dl havent fixed the problem. Is there a site that can diagnose and install drivers that are missing for free?
I have a Dell Dimension 8200 desktop running WinXP Home however It won't boot to the hard drive. I replaced the drive with a known working one and it still doesn't boot, says Diskette Drive 0 Not Found, however I figured that was referring to the floppy drive. Tried switching the ide cables around and that didn't work either. The power supply is working, as well as all of the fans. Its running a 1700mh processor. Cd-Rom works fine, and I can boot to a CD, I can browse the files if I boot to Knoppix, however it simply won't boot to the Hard Drive. I ran FixMbR and FixBoot in the recovery console, to no avail. Bios is configured properly, and I haven't touched the jumpers. Just to be sure I tried the hard drive in another system, and it wouldn't boot in that one either. Might be the mother board?
A DELL DIMENSIONS 9150 PC. There are 2 drives on it but the DVD is not working I have tried uninstalling it and rebooting so that it is automatically installed. I have also done the built in selt test by pressing F12 when the dell logo appears.
my computer Dell Dimension 2350 has been running at 100% cpu usage for a while now and it started occuring after the guy who came and installed the internet left. I ran tons of spyware, adware, and virus programs and came up with nothing, i wiped the computer clean and ran a fresh install but the trouble presisted. when i'm in safe mode none of this happens, the speed is fine In process explorer it says that the DPCs and Interrupts are pretty much hogging all of the system's resources. I did plenty of reading on the internet to find out it was probably a hardware or most likely in my case a driver problem. I got Driver Genius to update all of my drivers and now i see the only one that doesnt even have a driver and is saying there is an error for is my ethernet controller. It tells me that there is no driver installed for it yet it's still working. I'm not sure how i find what brand of controller i need the drivers too
I am trying to access my system setup , So i can boot from my xp cd .I tried to hit F2 but it just keeps taking me to a black screen wanting my pw . I forgot my Pw and after trying to guess my pw to many times it now just shows a black screen wanting a pw ? How can i get pass this ? I have never seen this before .Need a Pw to get to bios setup?I cant boot from my cd unless i get into the bios setup .
I have a Dell dimension C521 pc with XP home edition SP2. I am experiencing a lot of problems in starting up. The Dell screen comes on and then the white strip which should fill the box below "Dell" just seems to go halfway and hang. I then have to shut down manually and reboot pressing the F8 key and frequently have to do this(shutting down and restarting) several times before it actually gets going. Dell won't help me now as I am out of guarantee but it is really getting annoying and I keep thinking that one day it won't work at all!
I'm having trouble removing the graphics card from my computer. I was told to push down on a blue plastic device which will help remove the card. Nothing happens when I move the plastic device that looks like a 7.
Sometimes this computer will start, sometimes it wont When it doesnt, the On button just flashes orange, when it should be solid green. Sometimes it will start up and get to the log on screen and then just shut down and flash orange. It works fine when it does turn on. Iv been through the dell help and support stuff and that doesnt help
