Installed RegSvr32 Shell Extension: Unable To Correct Color Settings?
Oct 28, 2007
I stupidly installed this file:-RegSvr32 Shell Extension I was trying to use .ax files to add functionality to Media Player Classic (shoutcast source and subtitle finder) - but all I did was reduce colour to 4bit and the resolution to minimum, I couldn't correct the colour setting or resolution until I had rebooted. - can anyone tell me exactly what the above file did?
I am looking for a feature I have encountered in linux in the past which allows you to launch your applications from a right click.Anyone know of anything?
I deleted microsoft antispyware ,but in c program files there is still a folder that contains MS Antispyware shell ext.I have tried zap etc,but I still have no luck getting rid of it Please advise. WXP I E 6 SP2
I was helping my Dad clean up his My Documents folder. Halfway through the process, I could not longer choose several .doc files, highlight them, and then right click and choose copy. The process would just hang and I would have to use Ctrl-->Alt-->Delete to end the hung process. Did some web searches about the problem and found out about ShellExView . Following some online instructions, I slowly started to disable the 'Context Menu' extensions. It didn't take long. When I disabled the Context Menu item associated with Norton 360, which is called BUContext MenuClass the problem disappeared. Enabling the item immediately produced the same problem.
Norton 360 wasn't my first choice for my Dad's system. I used to think of Norton stuff as terrible, bloated and a resource hog. I was away from town for a while and my Dad had some computer problem; he had a guy in who uninstalled Avast and installed this version of Norton AV.Is it okay for me to have disable this 'Context Menu' item? In truth I have no idea what it is - I was just following some online troubleshooting tips I got, which happened to work. Is my Dad's computer open to attack if I disable the item? I left it enabled until I get an answer to this.
I have a few files mostly images where the file extension seems to be wrong. sometimes just renaming the extension to .jpg or .gif or .bmp works, But it's trial & error. Is there some kind of utility that'll open files and identify what type they really are, and rename them accordingly?
I have looked on the file extension source http://www.filext.com/ which has helped in the past, but to no avail...the CD was a gift from the friend of a friend, and supposedly contains fonts, but I can't seem to open it.
When rightclicking any file you´re likely to see an option called "open with", which lists any available program on you computer to open the file with. To simply clear up this list of unwanted items, or to remove useless associations, like opening an mp3 file with a paint program, follow these steps:- Click on the start button, click on Run... and type the word "regedit" (without the quotes) in the box that appears to open the registry editor- Navigate to "HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorerFileExts"- Find the extention you wish to edit and click on the "+"-sign to locate the key that says "OpenWithList"- In the right pane of the registry editor you´ll see a list with the programs in the list, like "paint.exe" or "notepad.exe"- Simple click on the one you wish to delete and press the delete button on your keyboardDon´t worry if you´ve removed an entry you rather hadn´t removed. When rightclicking a file there will be another option in the "open with" extension where you can choose any program on your computer. Once used, it will reappear in the list of associated programs.
My Windows instalation of 2000 has somehow gotten rid of my avail to use 16 and 32 bit color settings. I can not bring it back. 98 had it and now my view of some internet pages is horrible.
well my dads new high tech workstation that he just updated and prepared for professional work will not save themes as classic or keep his color settings.he sais at work when the optimized the pc that it worked great and as soon as he braught it home this started happening.does anyone know what could be the cause of this? basically everytime he sets the winows to "classic view" as soon as he restarts its back to normal.my dad is one of those ocd ppl so hes all getting freaked out over it.
While capturing video, it is in black and white, how do I activate the color enable box within the camera settings window? I have a Sony 8mm camera and the Angel MPEG Device for capturing the video. I have installed SP2 for Windows Movie Maker. I am a novice at this.
I just reformatted C:, and reinstalled XP Professional. Works like a charm, but every time I try to install SP2, I lose the screen resolution; it changes to a max of 4 bit color and 480 x xyz pixels as my only choice. I reloaded the monitor drivers for the hp pavilion f50 monitor, but that doesn't help. I finally loaded SP1, and that is fine, but I cant get SP2 to allow decent screen images... and SP3 had some other error when I tried to load it, and it wouldn't even try to install.
I really don't know how to start this so I will give you some of the symptoms 1. When I run Panda online scan it hangs on file 319 and will not go any further 2. When I run Spybot at the end I get "Error during check! Xuron55 (Datei C:Windowswin.ini kann nicht geoffnet werden. The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process. 3. When I search for a file in Regedit it searches forever 4. In one of my log files (C:WindowsSystem32WBEMLogs) it says "Shell name Explorer.exe in registry not found in process list Unable to locate Shell process. Impersonation failed. 5. In my event viewer I am getting alot of "The Shell stopped unexpectedly and Explorer.exe was restartedI am running XP Home Edition and this has been going on for a couple of weeks. I run Panda Online Scan, Adaware, and Spybot weekly and because I have had a couple of viruses in the past I run Stinger pretty often also.
I have recently come down with the Smitfraud trojan and have downloaded the command prompt program "SmitfraudFix" to hunt down and terminate my infection. However, the actual "killing process" that SmitfraudFix undergoes requires SafeMode to work correctly (I would assume so it does not harm other normal files). It would seem simple: log into Safe Mode and execute the prompt. Yet here is my problem! I have a laptop that was given to me by my college and instead of having my primary user account (which is given full administrator capabilities, but is not the actual Administrator account) as a "this computer" domain to log in, it logs in under the "GCC" domain (I go to Grove City College).
I would not have imagined this to ever be a problem, but when I start up Safe Mode to execute my trojan-killer I am given only two login fields, not three. Thus I have username and password inputs, but no "log on to" option to choose "GCC." So when I type in my username and password in Safe Mode they are (I presume) assumed to be "this computer" domain inputs. I think you can see where this is going...........
My left and right mouse buttons are reversed. If i go into 'mouse' in the control panel there is the facility to reverse the buttons and it's already ticked, you can untick the box but can't apply or OK it. When I try that the mouse buttons cease to to anything although you can still move the cursor around. I suspected viruses, and have done several sweeps with Spybot, AdAaware, Norton, AVG. HJT CW Shredder. Nothing much found and its still doing it.
For some odd reason now, everything on my desktop, and inside of my folders, pictures with the extension of JPG and so forth are not able to be saved unless i type in the extension also. I have no clue what could have triggered such an error, and I have no clue how to fix it. If I go and try to rename a file in my Pictures folder, for example, I can't rename it unless i type it as...."image.jpg"....I can't just save it as plain old, "image" - what the heck is going on? Does anyone know what happened or how to fix this?
Ive had some viruses lately and i think they damaged my icons.txt file and bat files show up as the icon for a file extension that is not known i tried lots of programs and none worked please help me also reg files dont work i click on them and they dont import Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 and REGEDIT4 dont work either.
i installed xp service pack 2 and now i can not change the color background settings, even though the right boxes are ticked. The box in accessibility is also ticked. Before installation of service pack 2 it worked. I like to change the background colors to make reading of web pages and surfing easier.
I have discovered that I am no longer able to change the colors of the icons on my desktop. When I get to that option in the Display Properties menu, the option is there but it is not active, it is grayed out or in this case beiged out. I am running XP Professional.
I am using Windows XP and a malware hit my system. It is "windows Antivirus Pro" 3 days ago.Now some of the files which I modifies after its attack turned into green in color and I am unable to open it. I am also unable to run any .exe files as well as any command from RUN like regedit or some thing else.I have downloaded "Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware" and scanned my HDD with the help of another system. Yet those files are GREEN in color and I cannot open it.
I have a Windows XP and when I turned on my computer this morning, my taskbar and start menu weren't the standard blue color, but grey, like an older version. I've tried fixing this in my control panel, but it just says I'm already using a blue taskbar & start menu. I really like the modern look of the blue taskbar.
i have a weird problem with my laptop, words i type don't show az i typed them.for example:Hi = h5 How are you = h6w are y64 pronounciation =r6n64nc5at556n it all happened after trying the windows xp "remote assistance" feature with my friend, and i got this problem during the connection, and even restarting the laptop didn't help to fix it !
This may seem trivial, but it's bugging me. I have a windows XP and i have the windows classic theme. Every time I put a picture as my wallpaper the color around the words under my icons doesn't blend in with the picture but stays a solid color, so there's like little boxes of blue of white. How do I make those icon words blend in with the picture?
Three days ago I boot up my PC and found something strange. The appearance was "set" as Classic. Ok, so far it didn't bother me. When I tried to change it back, I DID NOT HAVE THE OPTION! What disturbed me the most was that I had no internet connection. I checked the internet properties and my network settings were in blank. I checked the moden, and the "DSL" light was off. I don't want to imagine I have to reinstall Windows (XP); I've installed some software I (bought) downloaded and don't want to lose it. What can be wrong with my PC? I remember last time I turn it off was fine.
When I go to the control panel and select Windows Firewall, I am getting the following error message "due to an unidentified problem, Windows cannot display windows firewall settings". I wanted to check the status as my T1 internet connection has ground to a halt. Dial-up is OK. I have run Norton, Adaware, spybot, amd MS antispyware and look good there.
Alrite, ive got an emachines notebook running xp home on it. We bought it from best buy, and i guess they registered the computer to a 'valued customer' and its really annoying. Idk how the user name stuff works, but i think a while ago(not 100% positive cuz it was like 2 years ago) when we first got the computer i changed the admin 'valued customer' name to my name. but the 'my documents' folder defaulted to 'c:/documents and settings/valued customer' still. i fixed it by making a folder on c: with my name and made that folder the target location for the My Documents folder.
The settings button is greyed out. How can I fix this? Also, where can I get a USB driver? Just USB driver, modem is connected by the USB cable and sometimes I can hear this sound in winXP that its disconnected and connected again(the sound you get when you unplug/plug in a USB device). After a while of plugging /unplugging, my internet connection just disappears. The modem is working properly, I think theres something wrong with the USB driver or something.I plugged in my printer(also USB) and nothing happens, everything that uses USB doesn't work at all.
i am trying to restore my windows xp on an emachine to original factory settings.when i pop the disk in i am getting an error that says cant read R:E17F.GHO. What is that and how can i get this thing working? There is also a message that reads ''Cannot Open GHOSTERR.TXT '' and it also says Floppy Disk(s) fail (40)
Running WinXP Pro SP2 on an Intel D865GBFL motherboard with Celeron processor and ZoneAlarm Security Suite. DSL broadband via DI-524 router with MAC filtering. The Power settings to trigger hibernation after 2 hours were initially working but are no longer effective. I've tried negating hibernation, rebooting, re-establishing hibernation, etc. to no avail.
