I have an application that makes a connection to a certain IP/Port on the net. I was hoping that theres a way i can tell windows to redirect any connection attempt to that IP to 127.0.0.1 so i can see what it's doing. I've played with the HOSTS file but that obviously doesn't effect anything.
View 5 RepliesWhen I try to go to my homepage "hometab.bellsouth.net" it will not go. I get a flashing "DR.Redirect" and that is all it will do, sit there and flash. Also I can not go to my bank account, it will not let me log on. I can go to most everywhere else on my computer and also on the internet. Have I gotten something set wrong in my security settings or is there some type of a virus that does this. Norton Antivirus can't find any virus.
there is no cd-rom driver on my computer, but I have made a copy of source file on the hard disk. now windows file protection ask me to insert the windows xp cd into the cd-rom driver, But I can not. So, how can not reset the installation path to the hard disk, then the windows file protection will not ask for the CD disk again?

I have over 11,000 files that had previously been tagged on the pc, and the shortcut to them pointed to drive F. The drive they now reside on is drive D and I cannot rename the drive to F because that would cause other problems. Short of going into each shortcut and redoing the properties, does anyone know of a program I can buy/download to do this for me as a batch process?

So I pop in the WinXP CD we have here at work, still no luck...

I had Windows Vista in my laptop. I thought of going for XP/Vista Dual Boot. I took XP CD and booted from it and installed XP in my D Drive (Vista was in C Drive). Later on I didn't see XP/Vista Dual Boot option so I modified boot.ini file and though I am able to see Vista option now but still Vista fails to boot. XP is booting fine.

I then restarted my computer with the XP disc in the DVD-Drive and waited for it to install on my newly made partition. After it restarted for the first time i got a "Disk read error - Press CTRL + ALT + DEL to restart" and this continues to happen so i cannot get into windows.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a question about the Ctrl-Alt-Del combo on Windows XP Pro. I am attempting to get the task manager to open when the user hits ctrl-alt-del instead of the normal "Security Options" window (with the 'lock computer' options etc). The problem I see is that the only way to do this appears to be by enabling the Welcome Screen. how to get the Ctrl-Alt-Del to open task manager no matter what? I would even be happy completely disabling the ability to hit ctrl-alt-del.
The reason I am doing this is because I have some XP machines running some custom vendor software. This software will crash if the screen locks or the "Security Options" window is launched (Absurd, but apparently this is a bug in the software they can't fix...). There is no hope for the vendor to fix the bug, so I need to find a way to prevent the crash. Sometimes the tool will run for 300-400 hours, so if someone accidentally hits ctrl-alt-del it could possibly ruin hundreds of hours of tests.
Every time I do a search, and then click from the search results from lets say google, it redirects me to viaclick.com and says page cannot be found.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI had a system crash after installing drivers for a d-link wireless card (PCI). In the system that the crash occured on I had 2 Harddrives: one Maxtor SATA 200GB, and one Maxtor IDE 160GB. I used the 200GB for windows and my documents, and I used the 160GB for PS2 game backup ISO's and media files. The crash involved a BSOD when trying to load windows, and it reset many of my BIOS settings. It also corrupted my 200GB hard drive, but did'nt harm the 160GB one. I have since changed back the BIOS settings, and I installed XP onto the 160GB hard drive, in order to salvage the damaged one. at first the damaged one wouldnt open saying "Drive G is corrupt and unreadable". I then ran chkdsk and it fixed tons of errors so that I can now browse the HDD, but it still wont boot windows off of it, giving me another BSOD.
What I really need is the files in the "My Documents" folder on my 200GB HDD, the one that was corrupted and repaired. HERE IS THE PROBLEM: I had the folder made private on my old windows installation, and not password protected. when I try to get in now I get "access denied" errors because of that. I NEED to get in there in order to take the important stuff out and put it on the 160GB hard drive. afterwards I will go about trying to fix the windows installation on that drive. I appreciate all of your help ahead of time, but I do ask one thing: please don't give me help with the crash, restoring windows, or those issues, I will deal with them myself, all I need is a way to get into a private folder on one hard drive that doesnt have windows, from another hard drive that does.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI've hit a problem with Windows XP, I've looked around and I haven't been able to find anywhere which offers a potential solution, This hit my computer without warning, I switched it on this morning and it worked as normal, I was using Google Chrome, in order to browse websites that were free of spyware (the Guardian at time of crash) all of a sudden things started to freeze up. I restarted the computer, and now a lot of programs are refusing to open - Microsoft Office, among others, states "Error: There Are No More Files", whilst other programs such as Google Chrome and Internet Explorer state "Attempt to Access From Invalid Address", even when I am running them from their root folders.

It is 559 MB (586,412,032 bytes), and is suppose to be a backup of emails from Windows XP (Outlook Express) that was created by a friend of mine, although he has since forgotten how he created it. It did have a file extension at first, though I tried changing it to several others while trying to open it, and through the process, the original file extension has been lost. Since then, I have just deleted the file name altogether. I have tried several programs in an attempt to identify the file, though none of them worked. The programs I have tried are File Analyzer, TrIDNet, DaubNET: Identify! None of them could identify the file. All of my emails and contacts are in this file, and I really need them.

I have to reset the cable modem and then it works for another 10-20 minutes until the next cut. Ive had this problem before (last time i changed computers) but cant remember how it was resolved. I try to remove it with the bridge connection area and all it says is "To create a Network Bridge, you must select at least two LAN or High-Speed Internet connections that are not being used by Internet Connection Sharing." I have AT&T hig speed internet and tired talking to them and they said it was on my end, plus I spend two hours on the phone to someone who doesn't know much english and not alot about computers. I recently reinstalled Windows XP Home on a friends computer, but when I went
to create their dialup connection to the internet, I couldn't.I went into the 'Internet Connection Wizard'. Told it that I was connecting directly to the internet. Then I told it I was going to set up the connection manually. But whenever the option comes up to setup a dial-up or broadband connection, the dial-up option is greyed out and unselectable.In device manager, it shows my modem as being fine. It's installed with no conflicts.

Am i right in thinking that the 'always dial my default connection' box should be checked instead? or doesn't it make much difference?
