I've seen in a lot of windows blinds themes where there's no text and just icons in the side menu of the start bar (my computer, documents, control panel, run, etc) and was wondering how to remove the text.
I had added a couple of free standing applications and I cannot remove them no matter what I try. I cannot even rename them. I have tried changing the application location and then clicking on the Start Menu item so that I get an error message. The message asks whether I want to remove the item from the Start Menu and I click yes but that too does not work. I am tired of looking through the registry and cannot find anything relevant.
I am using windows xp sp2 and i have an item in the start menu called "reboot computer into safe mode". I don't know how it got there and i want to remove it because its useless and it doesn't work.when i click on it a message pops up "windows cannot find ........... click the start button then click search." yes, I've tried removing it by right clicking on the taskbar and clicking the "taskbar and start menu properties" but there's not option to remove it there. So how do I remove it from the start menu.I know how to reg edit.

When I turn my computer on it opens in my documents. I have no desktop icons and no start menu. The only thing I see is my desktops background picture. When it opens in my documents, I can click on my desktop and the items are in there, so I can access the internet that way. When I shut down the computer, I hit ctrl+alt+del, and shut it down or restart it from there.
Was wanting to know, as I have come across many who know, but what is the best way to remove entries from the start up folder in system conf. utility ? Have some entries I know belong to programs that no longer are hanging around .
Is there a way to remove and/or edit the words: Windows XP Home Edition from the left side of the Classic Start menu? I did it with Windows 98. If I remember correctly, I had to create a new BMP file of certain dimensions, and use Adobe Photoshop to create a layer of vertical text, give the new file the same name as the old one, change the extension for the old file, and put the new one in the same location. Is the method for the Classic Start menu in Windows XP the same.
I believe its a problem with the actual start up button instead of the computer itself, ive pried the thing open, seeing the generator is on, everythings in place and there are lights on, showing there is power. any ideas?
Im new, so bear with me please. The problem is on my old Sony Viao Model PCG-6H4L XP. I wanted to start fresh and the recovery system for windows gives me only a limited number of dates. I thought that the Viao recovery would do the job.I was wrong. I haven't checked recent forums about problems with this, so I went ahead and broke my laptop. Before the Recovery system starts, my laptop says, with a black background.
I had a power outage about a week ago and since then a printer I had previously connected, Lexmark X5495, started acting up by turning on & off on it's own at all hours of the day. Today I removed the printer software from my computer after numerous failed attempts and now I am left with two errors on my computer since the removal of such software for this dumb printer. The error messages I get when I turn on/reboot my computer are the following:

I've just purchased a brand new system, and its driving me nuts. The last system i put together was an old p3-1000 along time ago. ive bought a customized system and had it delivered recently, installed windows and instantly started hitting blue screens, ive spent 3 nights removing drivers and reinstalling, downclocking, everything and im still getting random bsod during even the most mundane activities. my cpu is running around 50c and my gpu's are both 50c idle and 60c underload, so i dont think heat is an issue. ive attached some mini-dumps, could somebody take a look and try to help me out? back in the day i would be all over this issue, but have been out of touch and i'm way behind the ball lately, i realize that getting 3-4 different excuses from windows to dump cant be a good sign. any help would be appreciated. BTW the last system i put together is 6-7 years old, still runs and not a single blue screen.

My sister's laptop, (Windows XP) is freezing up and having a lot of trouble accessing the internet. She thinks it's from an e-mail that she downloaded a screen saver from. It has to do with a web page called freeze.com, 3D Dolphins screen saver, desktop weather and a couple of other things that all downloaded at the same time. She has to go to Control, Alt, Delete to try to get the laptop to shut down and then has to click on "End Now" several times. I will attach a picture of the list. Also, when she goes to "Add & Remove", it won't let her uninstall the desktop weather and another one called When U Save.
I can't remove cnbabe or common name from my computer. Spybot and Adaware will find them each and every time I run the program but they just won't go away. How do I remove them permanently?

I have been having a problem with my computer not letting me remove my USB flash drive. I looked up this issue and found some suggestions. One of them was to end the Explorer.exe process and then restart it. Well, after I tried this I can no longer access any files on my computer from any account. I get the error message "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item
