Remove The Pending Updates From Computer?
Jul 10, 2009
The Windows XP update message displays Updates are ready for your computer. Click here to install these updates. It is Internet Explorer 8. I do not want to install it. But, the message displays in the system tray every time when I open the computer. How shall I remove the pending updates and block downloading the IE8 without affecting the other Windows XP security updates downloading

When I try to run Defrag I get a message that a pending CHKDSK must be run at startup (I did not request a CHKDSK, apparently XP did it). When I startup a message flashes up saying "Can not open volume for direct access". The XP startup then continues but leaves the pending CHKDSK active so I can not Defrag.

Every time I shut down windows xp pro I have the message "install updates and shutdown." I can shut down twenty times in a row, watch it install, and the same message is always there when I select shutdown. How can I remove this? I have no restore points to roll back to as far as I can tell, I already tried that.

How do I remove an automatic update that's been downloaded but not installed, and block it from being downloaded again in the future? I had installed SP3 for Internet Explorer 6, but it caused problems, interfered with my burners,so I restored to just prior to the installation. But now it's been downloaded again, and although I unchecked it under custom install, I now find it's trying to install it everytime I go to turn off or reboot.

I installed SP2 for XP then I got the critical updates for SP2 installed. Now when I go to Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel no list is displayed, just the window saying to wait for list population. I've waited up to 15 min but there's no icon or any indication that anything is trying to happen. Other categories in CP work fine. So I'm not sure if the culprit would be the applet itself, the service pack or one of the priority updates, if any. I considered doing a system restore, I'll do it if so advised. I've run a spyware scanner and CleanUp!

I had been using winFax pro to but uninstalled it when this problem arose. Now I am using the generic fax program with win xp sp2. Whenever I load a fax to send, it sits in the outbox "pending" forever... Before winFax it worked fine. Have uninstalled and reinstalled fax printer - nothing seems to help.

I have tried lots of time to download windows updates, when I go to the updates page all I get is: Checking for the latest version of the Windows Update software.Depending on your connection speed, this might take a minute. During this time, you may receive one or more security warnings. Review each security warning to ensure that the content is signed by Microsoft, and then click Install or Yes to install the software.and that is where it stops. It will not go any further. Page says 'done'. I have let is sit for hours and still nothing. When I go to Control Panel and click on 'Windows Firewall' the message I get is: Due to an unidentified problem, Windows cannot display Windows Firewall settings. I am not sure if this is part of the problem or not. I have recently done a Compaq System Recovery, but not a destructive recovery, just to restore the original files that were loaded when machine was new. Since then I have not been able to download windows updates. Everything else seems to work fine. If anyone has any answers I would be very grateful. My computer is Compaq Presario P8654T S3000T (OEM) running window XP, 2.40 gigahertz Intel Pentium 4, 512 kilobyte memory, on a cable modem.

Just re-installed WinXP Home on my PC. I tried to go to Windows Update, but when it scanned my machine to see what updates it needed, it said it could not continue. I went to Tools/Internet Options/Security, and set it to default, figuring that would make everything acceptable for Microsoft. I restarted the computer and tried to do it again with the same result. The error message is 0x8007000B.

I recently installed some files recommended by windows update. The problem is, they have now slowed my computer down emensely! I was wondering if there was any "record" or "undo" I can use without using system recovery, because I have installed programs since, I cannot install again as it would take valuable time. I've noticed under "Processes" tabs that I have alot less processes runnning, the only "services".

My computer is on a dual boot system. In case that makes a diffrence but shouldn't. It has been working fine. No problems. I disabled the updates because I didn't like them taking so much time and I didn't want any problems till I could back up the whole dual boot thing. I don't have the software yet. But despite me turning off the updates, they reactivated themselves somehow and updated from Windows (Windows updater that I got with Service Pack 2). Now my games and alot of other software no longer work, installations won't finish, media only plays half the time. its all messed up. I have Norton and Spy Sweeper so I doubt it was any of that and their scans don't show anything. Plus it did come from windows in the windows updater. Does anyone know what I can do? This really makes me mad. I work for over a month setting this whole dual boot and redoing this computer and the updates just screwed it all up.

I've been working on my father's computer (an HP pavillion zv5000), and realized that he had some Windows XP updates to be installed, so I decided to download them. What I didn't realize at the time was that he hadn't installed any updates in almost 2 years (though Automatic Updates appear to be enabled). When I rebooted after the installations were complete, I could not start in Normal Mode. When starting normally, I get a black screen with white writing saying that there's been a problem with the computer (can't remember word-for-word), and gives me the option to start in safe mode, safe mode with networking, and another safe mode. It also offers to start up with the last settings that worked, or normal mode. When I try to boot up in normal mode, it sends me back to that same screen, and likewise when I try to boot with the last settings. Now it only works in Safe Mode. I'm not really sure what's happened, and if it's related to the updates or if it could be a virus.

Yesterday I had 560 MB's of free space on Drive C, today I suddenly received a low disk warning. I had 163 MB's remaining, then a few minutes later I had 90 MB's. I searched Drive C for files/folders over 1 MB that had been modified in the last week and there were a half dozen huge files that were part of a Windows XP update it was trying to install. I turned off the automatic updates so I can do them manually from now on, but can I do anything about those files that were modified today to free up space? One of them is marked a temporary file - can I delete it?

My computer is only about 4 months old and I do not have it set to receive automatic updates. It seemed, with my last computer, the updates created more problems than they were worth. Does anyone have an opinion on how important it is to get these updates or am I just as well off not receiving them? The last time I checked to see what updates were available it appeared Microsoft even said that some of them could create problems.

I had a power outage about a week ago and since then a printer I had previously connected, Lexmark X5495, started acting up by turning on & off on it's own at all hours of the day. Today I removed the printer software from my computer after numerous failed attempts and now I am left with two errors on my computer since the removal of such software for this dumb printer. The error messages I get when I turn on/reboot my computer are the following:
C:WINDOWSsystem32spoolDRIVERSW32X863LXBTtime.dll
C:WINDOWSSYSTEM32spoolDRIVERSW32X863LXCVtime.dll
