i have windows xp. i recently ran updates for the first time since having it for a few months. complete disaster. all my display settings are messed up. my computer wont restore to previous points. and sometimes boxes that pop up for programs have no words. i dont know whats going on. any help would be usegful. is there any way to undo windows updates

I was wondering if there was any "record" or "undo" I can use without using system recovery, because I have installed programs since, I cannot install again as it would take valuable time. I've noticed under "Processes" tabs that I have alot less processes runnning, the only "services".

When I go to Turn Off Computer, the "Turn Off" button has changed, indicating that when I hit it, it will install the updates. There's also a field I can click which will Turn Off without installing the updates. When I click the Turn Off buttion, it attempts to install two updates. It doesn't appear to be successful. Every time I Turn Off Computer it apparently tries to install the same two updates. I can reboot and do this over and over and they don't "take".There's nothing in Event Viewer to indicate what's going on. I couldn't find any installation logs though I'm not sure where to look.

However, due to a high price I haven't been able to have my computer fixed. I already have the Windows XP Pro server pack one on a CD. how i can go about reinstalling Windows XP Pro on my laptop? View 7 Replies View RelatedWhen I reboot my PC it takes a good 3 minutes to get from the "Welcome" screen to being ready to work with only 4 items on System Tray, volume, Sunbelt Vipre, Zone Alarm Firewall, and Win Patrol. The, "RECGUARD" isn't shown but is there also RECGUARD, Vipre, Win Patrol, and Zone Alarm is all that's present under msconfig Startup. I have ran CCleaner, Defrag, Disc Cleaner, and Registry Mechanic to no avail. Under, "Startup Programs" under, "System Information" there is one heckuva bunch of programs listed if that has any bearing on my problem, I can maybe do a Copy and Paste of the list if needed?

View 1 Replies View Relatedrecently i had some virus problems and i had to make a repair install and a lot reg fixes and such and i wanted to download all windows updates (critical and security) because the repair install left me with fresh SP2 installation .i downloaded IE7 and when it started downloading security updates a window popped up to notify me that all updates FAILED then i went and tried to download the updates the regular way , first file was Windows Installer 3.1 but it failed also so i went and did download it manually from Microsoft website and after the install i went and opened the update screen again and i could see Tons of critical and security updates waiting i pressed DOWNLOAD just to see the window pop up that all the updates failed I'm so desperate now since my PC is soo vulnerable for attacks and hackers and all what can come to your minds

i have sp3 for windows xp but i cannot download any updates for some reason. It just says "updates failed to download" both that yellow icon at the taskbar and explorer way of downloading the updates fails. what is going on? how can I fix this? is there another way to download these updates?

I also am unable to search for anything that I put in a search bar like google or msn search. If I type the search criteria in the search box and press GO or the GOOGLE SEARCH button, nothing happens. The word just sits there like the buttons no longer work. I also tried downloading MS Antispyware and the system would not validate. I tried downloading the online virus scanner from Trendmicro.com and when I went to select United States as my download country and pushed the button next to it to submit my choice, nothing happened.

In 4 of them Windows was reinstalled 2 and 3 times; and the remaining 2 became ultra-slow.Software and use is the same on all of them.(office work) No additional software downloaded or installed in any.Should I forget about the "risks" of not updating and reinstall and use the no update option???

I have restarted the computer after each install, but this has not solved the problem.I am running XP PRO/SP2. View 4 Replies View Relatedi went on the windows update website, i guess launched a new update software , so i waited for it to install , then it gave the choice between cutom updates or express , so i clicked on one of them.there is a bar that comes up with green squares going thru it , and that just keeps on going forever, when i try to stop it, it would freeze the whole computer and i'll have to restart. i know it's nothing to do with the security setting in our netwrok here, because i can get windows updates on other computers on the LAN. can this be a spyware problem if so, how can i resolve. i never encountered a problem like this before.

View 7 Replies View RelatedDid a repair install, everything is working except windows updates, it says I have updates and I can click on custom and it shows them when I click to install them it acts like it will then a box comes up and say they all failed. I turned off auto updates and went to the site and click on custom and they came up but the same thing won't install did it with express install to and its the same,. Any one know what could be wring, one update it needs is the windows validation update I know the disk is valid it came with the machine and it retook the product number when I did the repair install.

My next step was to download updates from MS windows updates. That is when something odd happened, I clicked on IE icon it opened up and said page could not be loaded (MSN default). Lately my computer has been extremely slow, not just internet slow but onboard slow. For example, if I click on an application from the desktop it will sit there for 10-20 seconds before anything happens. Occasionally I'll click multiple times on something and nothing will happen then 30 seconds later it will open multiple instances of things. This delay has been happening with just about anything I click on, acting like the computer's busy doing something else when nothing else should be going on. I've looked in the task manager and the applications column will be blank
