This is like the 3rd time I've seen the Common Files folder in my C:Program Files directory. What exactly are they and why are they there? They have folders in there of programs I've never used in my life! Also why do they come back after I delete them?

Everytime I start my computer the C:Program FilesCommon folder opens! It's so annoying. I have looked at other posts and have tried the Start-Run-misconfig-Check startup tab but this folder is not listed. There
are some programs within the common files folder that are listed, but not the simple file path I wrote above.

I have a brand new Dell Inspirion 1501 Windows XP SP2 laptop.I installed a few programs like Word Perfect 2002, Microsoft Office 2003 and a few other things just for some history. Well today out of nowhere, upon booting up my laptop this morning, this window pops up that says BORLAND SHARED...and I go back and find out that it is in the Program Files/Common folder. I did some searching on the web and it sounds like it could be some kind fo registry thing?? Thought the solutions some described seemed too complicated for me.

The root folders of my external drives and My Documents are showing Picture Tasks instead of the Common Files and Folders Tasks. They also show the watermark for images for the background image (when I have this feature on). How can I fix this? There is no Customize tab under Properties for these folders. The root folder for the system drive is fine. I have Windows XP Home SP2.

I had a power outage about a week ago and since then a printer I had previously connected, Lexmark X5495, started acting up by turning on & off on it's own at all hours of the day. Today I removed the printer software from my computer after numerous failed attempts and now I am left with two errors on my computer since the removal of such software for this dumb printer. The error messages I get when I turn on/reboot my computer are the following:
C:WINDOWSsystem32spoolDRIVERSW32X863LXBTtime.dll
C:WINDOWSSYSTEM32spoolDRIVERSW32X863LXCVtime.dll

I was having this problem on my old install of XP, which desperately needed a new install. In any case, I'm now using a freshly installed version of XP, and everything has been running perfectly for about 2 weeks. Suddenly, this one problem reappears: The File Open / Save As dialog box (aka Windows Common Control / comctl32.dll) takes forever to open (20 seconds to 60 seconds). I just did a chkdsk and defrag, and that did not solve the problem. Also, there are no network drives connected which could be slowing things down. This happens in both MS programs (such as Notepad) and 3rd party programs (such as Firefox).

I've just purchased a brand new system, and its driving me nuts. The last system i put together was an old p3-1000 along time ago. ive bought a customized system and had it delivered recently, installed windows and instantly started hitting blue screens, ive spent 3 nights removing drivers and reinstalling, downclocking, everything and im still getting random bsod during even the most mundane activities. my cpu is running around 50c and my gpu's are both 50c idle and 60c underload, so i dont think heat is an issue. ive attached some mini-dumps, could somebody take a look and try to help me out? back in the day i would be all over this issue, but have been out of touch and i'm way behind the ball lately, i realize that getting 3-4 different excuses from windows to dump cant be a good sign. any help would be appreciated. BTW the last system i put together is 6-7 years old, still runs and not a single blue screen.

My sister's laptop, (Windows XP) is freezing up and having a lot of trouble accessing the internet. She thinks it's from an e-mail that she downloaded a screen saver from. It has to do with a web page called freeze.com, 3D Dolphins screen saver, desktop weather and a couple of other things that all downloaded at the same time. She has to go to Control, Alt, Delete to try to get the laptop to shut down and then has to click on "End Now" several times. I will attach a picture of the list. Also, when she goes to "Add & Remove", it won't let her uninstall the desktop weather and another one called When U Save.

I just built a new computer and installed Windows XP Pro with SP2 on it. When I set up my hard drive and OS, I partitioned my lone hard drive into three partitions: 10 Gb C: drive for Windows, drivers, etc., and a pair of 111 Gb drives for things like program installs. I noticed that my C: drive is filling up rather rapidly, and I discovered that Program FilesCommon Files is taking up a considerable amount of space. I would like to move this folder onto one of my bigger partitions, but I'm not sure how to do it without screwing up all my programs. Any direction on this matter (that doesn't involve re-partitioning and starting from scratch) would be appreciated.
