View 4 RepliesI need to have network drive on my Windows XP computer. In order for a software to work, there needs to exist a network drive, named N, existing on my PC. Since there's not a second PC to link to, what I did was to created a directory named est on the same PC , share it out, and then, map a network drive, named N, to it. When my PC has an Ethernet cable connected to a switch, Windows XP will see that N drive (existing on the same PC). The moment I disconnect that Ethernet cable from the switch, the N drive is gone. Is there a way to have a mapped network drive on XP (as mentioned above), without the need to have a network cable connecting that PC to a switch?

View 14 Replies View RelatedI have 3 computers on wired network and have to move one computer to another room. It would much more convenient to use the existing cable which would have to be coupled in two places, however I have been told that although this can be done it is not recommended, and have also been informed that it would be ok to use couplings.I would like to know if they are ok to use and what type to use.
I recently installed verizon VZ Access Manager to use my blackberry as a tethered modem. Since then, I have noticed that neither my wireless nor my wired LAN connections appear in Network Connections. My connections work fine. I am using a wired LAN connection to send this. However, the connection does not appear in Windows Network Connections. According to what I've read, the connection should be automatically entered there.

View 6 Replies View RelatedFirst of all, I would like to say that I am an IT tech, so there's no need to explain everything in details. I'm posting here, because I'm having trouble with some hardware compatibility that happens only with Windows XP Service Pack 2c , and not SP2.I might as well post this in the Hardware sub forum.According to Microsoft, there's nothing that was added to the OS, other than a new range of license keys. But for what I can see, there's definately something different other than that in the OS.Here are some specs of the systems I am using.

View 6 Replies View RelatedMy network adapter does not appear in Device Manager, until I "Show hidden devices". And then it appears as a "Realtek RTL8139 Family PCI Fast Ethernet NIC", whereas I actually have a D-Link DFE-538TX 10/100 adapter. Furthermore, I get no icons (at all) in the Network Communications window. So if I want to change any settings of my LAN, for example, I can't, because I can't select the LAN icon or right-click on it. The LAN is working though. The current driver for the Realtek adapter which is listed is a MS driver.

I have a drive that successfully mounted through the USB port in the past but it won't mount now. I recall that even when it did mount with the adapter it was hit or miss. I would have to plug it into the USB port several times before it was recognized and came up as a USB drive.Does anyone else have experience mounting IDE drives using a IDE-to-USB cable? Are there specific drivers needed for this?
