Cable Connections For Wired Network?
Jul 30, 2005
I have 3 computers on wired network and have to move one computer to another room. It would much more convenient to use the existing cable which would have to be coupled in two places, however I have been told that although this can be done it is not recommended, and have also been informed that it would be ok to use couplings.I would like to know if they are ok to use and what type to use.

I recently installed verizon VZ Access Manager to use my blackberry as a tethered modem. Since then, I have noticed that neither my wireless nor my wired LAN connections appear in Network Connections. My connections work fine. I am using a wired LAN connection to send this. However, the connection does not appear in Windows Network Connections. According to what I've read, the connection should be automatically entered there.

I have been trying for a while to delete three broadband connections i seem to have made, but not enabled. They are located in the network connections dialog under the broadband heading. On top of this they keep asking me which server to connect to. When I try to delete them, it asks me if i want to send them to the recycle bin, I click yes, and then nothing happens, they don't go anywhere.

My desktop computer has been running windows xp for a long time. It also has a linksys wireless card that connects to a router in my home. Yesterday, I tried to run an ethernet cable from my router to my computer. The computer crashed/froze almost instantly. I decided to re-start the computer and again it crashed/froze. The reason I wanted to do this is because I want to connect my linksys wireless card to a gaming console so I can play games with people all over the world. This required me to change some of the settings on my network card. This time I changed the settings before connecting the ethernet cable to my computer. When I connected the cable, my computer showed the wired cable icon "searching for ip address" then I got the "blue screen of death" saying that windows crashed due to some form of network/hardware problem. I restarted the computer and in a few minutes I got the blue screen again...

I need to have network drive on my Windows XP computer. In order for a software to work, there needs to exist a network drive, named N, existing on my PC. Since there's not a second PC to link to, what I did was to created a directory named est on the same PC , share it out, and then, map a network drive, named N, to it. When my PC has an Ethernet cable connected to a switch, Windows XP will see that N drive (existing on the same PC). The moment I disconnect that Ethernet cable from the switch, the N drive is gone. Is there a way to have a mapped network drive on XP (as mentioned above), without the need to have a network cable connecting that PC to a switch?

The service 'Network Connections' uses up 80% of my CPU whenever I leave it enabled. I have singled it out, and yes, this is the cause. Toggling it off in my msconfig leaves me with an idle PC (0% usage). However, I cannot get internet without 'Network Connections.'

My son and I share an "Always On" Cable Internet connection through a 4-port hub and cable Network. I want the two computers to connect "locally" and share Files, printers and a scanner (without scarificing the internet sharing). My efforts on creating this connection were, so far, fruitless. Can someone point me in the right direction? As I am not technically inclined, "how-to" sites would be of great assistance.

I have a problem that I do not know how to fix. My system is windows xp pro, it is very slow and unresponsive. It takes awhile to get the control panel to respond and the icon Network Connections does not want to open.It takes a few min. then it finally shows no connections. When I try to set up a connection I get the error: an exception occurred while trying to run netshell.dll,STARTNCW.I tried doing regsvr32 netshell.dll with start run and it said:Load Library Failed- The specific Module could not be found. The file netshell.dll is in the system 32 folder and in a folder dealing to Service Pack 2.I tried doing a chkdsk and it didn't catch anything. I also ran spy ware and anti virus software on the drive and nothing came up.I just did start run: regsvr32 netshell.dll regsvr32 netcfgx.dll regsvr32 netman. dll. These things error out. So i ran that sfc /scannow and it did its thing and asked for the windows disk and so i put it in (with sp2). I sat there it finished, and nothing happened so i restarted after like 10min.I then did all of these again:regsvr32 netshell.dll regsvr32 netcfgx.dll regsvr32 netman.dll And go the error the specific module cannot be found.

Router A:wireless linksys with an internet connection Router B:the other is old and supports only wired connections and it does not connect to the internet I just want to use for file sharing with my old desktop that does not have wireless card. So right now, the only way I can browse with my wireless connection is by disabling my LAN connection. However, when I have both connections enabled, the browser checks for internet connectivity with the LAN and since there is none on Router B it does not allow me to browse even though I am still connected to the wireless. I want to be able to use the wireless connection for connecting to the internet and at the same time be connected to my LAN. Is there some way to specify the order of the internet connection in the browser? All I see are settings for proxy in the firefox.

I've been doing some extensive searching for a solution to this since it turned up last night.I run Windows XP pro connected to a SBS 2003 server, which has been running fine for the last three months. However, my PC bluescreened last night, forcing me to restart - unfortunately, the size of the screen and resolutions meant I could not actually read most of the exception. When I reboot, it loads normally, goes through the network connections and comes up with the 'Press CTRL ALT DEL to Login' screen. I press it and the screen just refreshes.

In my Network Connections it shows nothing. It is just white space. In my system tray, at the bottom right-hand corner of my screen, it shows no flashing computers. This has been so for around five months, I'm guessing. It never really bothered me until lately, and here is what I have done in order to fix it (to no avail, obviously):- Installed all critical Windows updates
- Ran Ad-Aware entire system scan (it's my only anti-virus program)- Tried to make a new network connection, but according to Windows, I have no network hardware, either- Put my Windows installation CD into my CD drive, went to "Install Optional Windows Components," and installed everything network related, then restarted.

I am running XP Home SP2 and using dialup to connect to my ISP.When I start the dialup connection, whether from clicking on the connection in the Network Connections window or by clicking on the desktop shortcut, it behaves strangely. Used to be that when the connection was established, an icon (two terminals) appeared in the taskbar area, and the NC window showed the connection status "Connected". Now, neither of these two things happen, so the only way I know I'm connected is hearing "modem talk" on my phone line.

I took my daughters Gateway M320 laptop and did a restore from the CDs that came with the laptop. After doing all the Microsoft Updates, ALL the wireless driver installs from Gateway there is no 'Wireless Network Connection' icon. I have also checked Device Manager and there is no wireless adapter. Before this exercise she was running wireless fine. It does work 'hard wired' but no wireless icon.

What on God's green earth is this? I have two network connections icons in my control panel. When I hover over them a tool tip(the little yellow box), each one says something different. One says "connects to other computers, networks and the Internet" and the other one says"configures network software". When I click on each one, they both go to the same Network Connections location with connections. What is the deal? Have I done something wrong? My computer is fine and everything, it just bugs me a little. I can deal with it if I have to.

My laptop used to connect automatically to the Internet via wireless. Now, I have to hit Repair (I use Windows XP Home). The default (and only Wireless option I have) doesn't appear at first, under available wireless connections, and sometimes Repair doesn't work. I have a feeling that some of the options are missing, in the Wireless Network Connections Properties/General area. My computer shows File and Printer Sharing for MS Networks, QoS Packet Scheduler and Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).

Dell Latitude D400 with XP SP2. No Adware, spyware or any other malicious software running. When booting normally, the Preparing Network connections screen stays up for over a minute, before moving on to Applying computer settings. I have plugged it directly into the same segment as the domain controllers, etc. If I use MSConfig, and boot minimally, it comes up as expected, but of course without network functioning.

Problems occured after last update from Microsoft and consistent blue screens which I was able to correct in Safe Mode. Seems Microsoft dumped part of SP2 in my ad-remove programs but now I'm back to SP1 although there may be a conflict? Now using Microsoft "how to troubleshoot missing network connections icons in....XP" gets me to step 5...registering the dlls. Two I was able to register...netcfgx.dll and netman.dll.
