Files on one of my storage drives have disappeared. It is not a hidden file problem. The properties says that there is the same amount of occupied space as before the files disappeared but I can't see them. Anyone know how to fix this? running win xp pro. storage drive is a maxtor 500 gig scsi internal. I think windows may have run check disk at a boot up

I'm having some issues with my Free Space on my C: partition. The C partition has 40GB of space. When I add Program files, Windows, Documents and Settings, it shows that I use around 6GB of space. With nothing in Temp and Recycle Bin, I should have 34 GB of free space. However, I have only 5.5 GB. Does anyone know where my 34 GB of free space may have disappeared? I tried defragmenting my C partition but it couldn't defragment all files. Here is the report. It doesn't tell me much. You may be able to "read" it.

One of my disk drives I had to reformat and I have put maybe a Gig of files back on it. View 14 Replies View RelatedToday I deleted some files totaling about 4 gigs in size (also emptying the recycling bin) and it did not free up any space on my hard drive (NTFS, SATA, 320GB, 16MB Cache, 7200 RPM, Western Digital WD3200KS). It reported the same free space as before I had deleted the files. When I select all the files and hit properties the size on disk is reported as 272 GB (292,118,638,592 bytes), but when I go to properties on the disk itself it reports used space as 276 GB (297,209,229,312 bytes). I was wondering if anyone knew a way to "reclaim" this space (I don't know if windows just didn't mark the space as free or what). This has happened to other drives of mine, reformatting fixes them

The problem I'm having is, every week I do a scan disk and defrag. I've noticed that once defraged since a few weeks ago I HAVE GONE from over 70% free space down to only under 40%....I don't run any major software at the moment BUTDO use the internet on ADSL most days BUT not to any great extent. This is not a very serious problem because I have discovered several work-arounds for it. But I am sick of it and I would like to know how to fix it.I am using Windows XP Home SP2. I like to use Windows Explorer to open all my files by double-clicking them. I also like to design actions for the context menu, such as "view" to open in Firefox or "edit" to open in Word. I keep having problems with files with spaces anywhere in the file path. I would like to be able to use spaces in my file names and store files in directories with spaces. For example, I have problems storing files anywhere in "My Documents" or "Desktop" because those folders are subfolders of C:Documents and Settings and Windows won't let me rename "Documents and Settings" because it is a system folder.

The remaining free space si 1.5 GB.I cannot understand why.I have deleted all the temp files, try to delete the maximum unnecessary

View 8 Replies View Relatedi had to system restore and when i came back all my files where gone but i still ahd the same hard disk space left and then i ran my diskk defragmentor and i found some files that i had that are now fragmented and still takeing up large parts of my memory here is what the Analysis report for the defragmentor said and when i go in to USERDATA to try delte some files it says USERDATA is not assable ,acces is denied and i tryed goin in it on safe mode and im administator on my computer so idk y it wont let me in plase help i only got 4% disk space left and when i click run dick defragmentor it says i need 15% space to run efectively sould i still run it and c what happens?

Two times now, at a seemingly random times (both times round about 11:00AM), all of a sudden, loads (and I mean tens of thousands) of TMP files, looking like 0fb149fbcb12b2799cfd1c55fc08b4e9.TMP are pumped into my system32 folder. In a matter of 15 or 20 minutes, this may generated as much as 5GB of used diskspace. Some are 0K, some are 91K, but other than those tow, sizes seem to be constant.

i wanted to copy a cd image 4.18GB ISO format from partition F: NTFS 9GB free to partition D: (FAT32 12GB free space) and windows gives me that crap there is not enough space and i should do a disk clean up.

Only NTFS partions can have files with file size more than 4GB..i hope theres nothing wrong with my windows or my hard disk..and i wanna know if theres a way to move that ISO image..thanx in advance.
I've noticed sometimes that the Free Space on my harddrives won't reflect changes I've made. For example, on my 28.6gb F: drive, I had about 586mb free. I just deleted a video file of about 700 mb, so it should be up to about 1.2 gb. Oddly enough, its still at 586mb.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI don't get it. the more i go on, the more and more disk space seems to vanish into thin air. xp usually takes a couple of gigs up on the hard disk, right? maybe 5 gigs at the very most. i've got 8 gigs taken up by videos in one folder. the programs i've got installed are negligable. the program files folder is 500mb. and yet my disk only has 20 gigs spare on a 40 gig hard disk. i've looked in every folder on the hard disk and i simply can't find any folders with anything of any great size in it. i've defragged the hard drive.

In those two years, I had to re-install Windows XP and everything else on my computer...for reasons unknown...I recently performed a New Installation of Windows XP on my computer. how to expand the disk space that I have. The primary C drive has the OS on it and it is only about 14GB, and my entire disk is about 50GB, the unallocated space is about 34 GB. I have tried to expand the primary partition unsuccessfully. Do I have to reload the entire OS ? I do not have the origional disk to reload the OS. It is a sony PCG-CRT160 computer with 500 mb ram and approximately a 50 GB primary drive that was partitioned when I got it.
