I was trying to get 2 PC's to be able to see each other in the network, and while modifying permissions I must have accidentally done something, now I (Administrator account) can't install anything cause I get the "you do not have permission" message.
I used "drag & drop" to move some of my documents to a cd rw disk on my D drive. It all transferred well, however, when I open the files and edit them it does not allow me to "save as" on that same cd on the D drive and says, "You do not have permission to save in this directory. See the administrator to obtain permission. Would you like to save in the My Documents folder instead?" So it wants me to save what I have on the D Drive CD RW disk back to my C drive on my cpu. This is my computer, I am the administrator and have full permissions so I do not understand why I can't edit and save my own cd's.
Recently I tried to open up Photoshop CS2 like I do all the time, and it said I do not have permission to access this program.I am the only one who uses my computer, with no guest accounts active.I also noticed I can't even select to shut down computer from the Start button. I have to log out first, and then shut down from there.I did a virus sweep and found 3 Trojans, which have now been deleted. I also created another User account as an administrator, but I still get permission problems.
First, I still have problem to set a folder to be private. It should be a VERY EAY task. But when I right click the Property of a folder on D: drive its "Make this private" check box is gray out.So I can NOT make a folder be private in D: drive.
It seem to me the private folders are private under "My Documents" in C: drive.
I read from Help, it says a drive MUST be NTFS
But I type
convert D: /fs:ntfs
It says my D drive already is NTFS format. Since it already in NTFS, then why I can't make it private?
Can cacls.exe be used to change a registry permission? It's been suggested to me to use this tool but I'm not having any luck using it on a registry key.I need to change the permissions for a key under HKLMSOFTWAREMyCompany for the group machine Users.
a lack of permission for filesharing/or computer sharing from XP laptop:Maybe it is simple but I have spent many hours trying uselessly.I am new to XP and have searched everywhere I can try - (tho' as these are French versions, maybe I am missing something obvious. so in replies, please be extra clear in stating exactly what steps I must take.
1) Networked 2 laptops: a win98SE and winXP Home Edition +SP2, using TCP/IP
2) Both have filesharing enabled, etc, both 'ping' to router and to each other
3) the XP can open, read, write, etc to the win98 - no access problems at all.
4) the win98 can ping and 'see' the named XP computer itself, but cannot 'see' any of its files:
5) Not a firewall problem: tried with firewalls off (Zonealarm) and checked winXP firewall off.
6) Not a router problem: Same situation as above with a direct connection of crossover cable.
7) Netbios is enabled on the XP
8) It is apparently 'just' a permission problem within the XP
Just wondering if anyone knows of a program that will copy files and folders along thier permissions.I came across the Scopy stuff on M$ but just wondering if there is a easier way
How can i recover access permission on particuler files and folders? Because i am not able to open some word and excel files even i am logged with administrator user.
I was wondering if it is possible to make a specific user (such as Guest) and change it's user permissions. For instance, right now, Guest can do the usual stuff but not access any folders other than its own My Documents. What I want to do is configure it so it is not able to use certain applications, click properties for the desktop, etc
I have a network of 20 computers with three workgroups. One workgroup (three computers) would like to have shared folers within the workgroup that are NOT available to Everyone outside their workgroup but on the network. All 20 computers are on windows XP I went and unchecked simple file sharing so I can have the permission tab available. However I am having hard time finding the othertwo computers in the workgroup so I can grant them full access permsission. I assume I need to remove 'everyone' and add the other two computers in the work group and grant them full permission.
I recently had to reinstall windows XP twice. I no longer have permission to access to my folder under documents & settings. Is there anyway that I can over ride the permissions? I also have two operating system choices when I boot the computer. I know there is a command to use in the run option to remove the invalid operatings system choice.
I got a hard drive out of a computer running windows XP home (this computer was not booting in to windows), so I put the hard drive in a caddy and plugged it via USB in to another system so I can get photos, etc, off the hard drive before doing a reinstall of windows. I can look at the files on the HDD I have in the caddy but I do no have permission to open or copy/paste these photos or any other files under the user account I was using as I had a password on this account
after disabling windows automatic update, an alert show "sysocmgr.exe" asking permission to operate. I deny it. This is the first time I have ever had this alert. Is this an important session that I should allowed to run?
I am running windows xp home edition. The reason why I disable windows automatic update, because I did not want to install the latest update from windows.
I am running Win XP-SP2. I wiped my hard drive due to irresolvable software conflicts. I reinstalled XP-SP2, Office, Norton, the printer and scanner and my digital camera software package. All were updated and working perfectly until Sunday. I booted up the machine only to get a warning that says One of your disks may have errors let the computer reboot itself (which it will do repeatedly, stuck in a reboot loop) or you can hit any key to ignore this warning. You have only ten seconds to read all this and make a decision.
Once the computer boots up, everything seems to work as normal except for system restore. I tried to restore to the day after I reformatted and installed everything and all I get is an error saying Cannot restore to that point, please choose another point to restore tooor something to that effect.
a message keeps popping up saying the following: Cannot load dialog. Error 623: The system could not find the phone book entry for this connection. All I can do is click the close button and it goes away and nothing else seems to happen, but it pops up again in a few minutes.
My nephew's company has a server with Small Business Server 2003 SP1 and they run Windows Backup for their daily backups. The event log errors with Event ID 6013 and says:
When I try to install updates from Microsoft's site I get an error saying "Updates were not successfully installed." This happens during both manual and automatic updating. I search google.com high and low and cannot find a fix that works. This is the specific error from the WindowsUpdate.log FATAL: Error: 0x80070005. wuauclt handler: failed to spawn COM server FATAL: 0x80070005: ERROR: Remote update handler container process created (PID: 1656), but exited before signaling event
I have a Dell Inspirion laptop and have formated the HD and removed the partions. Have tried booting from a USB HD and have also tried another burned disk. No change will not install.
i had was my motherboard cpu fan not working in its cpu fan pin, so instead i have it hooked up to a case fan pin. I am not sure if this means i have a faulty mobo or not.
I installed my brand new Creative sound card, I installed its software and drivers all fine and the PC restarted fine. Next creative wanted to update the drivers and I let it. After it was done installling the new drivers it needed a restart. On restart I could not even get to the post screen and was displayed with an error saying USB over current, PC shutdown in 20 seconds. At first i could not get past this error at all, so i tried taking out the sound card and putting inserting it again. I did not get the USB error now and was happy.
I played Battlefield 2142 for a few hours then shut it down. Now today when i get home from work and turn it on i saw that USB over current error again and got frusterated. After taking the sound card out and putting it back in I had some new problems. I only saw my Asus Splash screen saying "press delete to enter setup" although pressing delete did nothing, it just hung on that screen.
window loads, sits, finally other half will load, mouse just doesn't seem to do anything so you click again and 3 minutes later 2 of whatever will finally open... just annoying crap really A few days ago comcast went off and I had to unplug modem, wait, then plug back up and restart system. I got a "Disk read error press control, alt, delete, to restart" error, tried that same thing so I shut down and when I turned back on it booted fine. I have since moved... just set up the system and am getting the same error except this time shutdown/restart isn't working ( The OTHER problem I realize is this... this is a tempory move! Most everything I own is in a storage unit, boxes to the back, furniture to the front and guess where my disks are? Right! I put printer, shredder, disks, everything I didn't just HAVE to have in the storage unit.
Man, my computer for the last two weeks have been crashing like an emo. I mean, when I play GTA: San Adreas, in 20 minutes, I get a BSOD with a stop error. When I put hardware acceleration to full, in a half an hour, I get a BSOD with a similar error. Believe me, I got three kinds of errors, and some were from different time. I believe the problem either came from the either the PSU, new 512 mb of ram, old 512, CPU, system board, or the graphic card. I'll try to post the error as best as I can. So, is there a solution to this? Error Message: STOP 0x000000EA THREAD_STUCK_IN_DEVICE_DRIVER (Q293078) This is one of them, but there another one with KMODE that I can't seem to remember. Also, sometimes, after it tries to recover from a serious error, the computer shuts down during the bootup before I can choose which XP version I can choose. Also, I hate to say this, but I'm not using a legit windows copy sp1, but I have updated to sp2.
i had XP 2008 virus/spyware, which I think I managed to get rid of with Malwarebytes' Anti Malware and System Mechanic 7. Now I have a new problem. After receiving a recent download from microsoft, upon restarting, I get the blue screen of death with this message; STOP: C000021a (Fatal System Error) The Windows Logon Process system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc0000005 (0x00000000 0x00000000)
I can't get anywhere into Windows, I've done F2, F8, F12, everything I could think of without risking more damage. I've booted from the system mechanic CD with the Hard Drive recovery, and while it said it found and fixed a problem, it didn't fix this one.
When I'm trying to start up Windows XP Home Edition I receive an error box without an error message, I can just click YES or NO. Neither option let's me continue. When starting up in Safe Mode, everything works fine.
When trying to install Windows XP Pro I get the following error message "Setupdd.sys cannot be loaded error 14. Setup can not continue. Press any key to exit."
I have been getting the dreaded blue screen of death with STOP: c000021a (Fatal System Error)" Error Occurs when i log into my windows 2000 service pack 3 and my linksys wireless usb network adapter connects me to the internet. My computer will remain on and run fine if i do not connect to the internet. This also will happen if i connect to the internet using my backup 56k modem
after I reinstalled Windows XP with SP2 I cannot install my canon fax l-350 german title. The setup quits with the subject's message. I searched the web and found some other people having the same problem
I uninstalled some preloaded Windows programs, I reinstalled some of them, but now my laptop's all funny. When I connect to The Internet, any program that I open freezes for like 10 minutes, after which it unfreezes. During this time I normally restart my computer, with no success. If I open Windows Live Messenger and Internet Explorer 7 together it freezes normally. Pinball, WordPad, Sound Recorder, and Volume Control cannot be restored. Also, I tried using my Toshiba Recovery DVD, with no success. It says Loading RAMDISK Image, then it reboots and loads the exact same system with no changes made.
laptop was infected with the Antivirus 2009 after surfing the web and I removed it using malwarebytes program. Then shortly after the laptop would show a blue screen, displaying "KERNEL STACK INPAGE ERROR" and then reboot. After the reboot, my laptop seemed to run fine, I downloaded AVG antivirus software to check if there was a boot sector virus (?) and after running the laptop for about 30 minutes, it showed the blue screen again and reboots. This kept on occuring.
Then I tried to reformat the laptop. The first time I tried to format it as FAT32, it got to about 60% before rebooting. The second time I managed to get past the formatting (FAT32 [quick])and I got onto the part of installing windows. About 20 minutes into the installation. A stop error appeared "STOP C0000218 Unknown Hard Error". Could the hard disk be corrupt
After around 10-15 min after logging in a program error box opens up saying winlogon.exe fatal error then it switches to a blue screen saying fatal error c0000021a error. I have windows 2000 proffessional and a HP compaq nc6120 laptop.
