I have a folder in My Documents labelled "Misc." I guess I gave it that name quite some time ago, but it is empty and I can't get rid of it. When I click on it I get, "Error deleting file or folder - Cannot delete file. Cannot read from the source file or disk."
After migrating my win xp pro system to a bigger hard drive using the Western Digital tools, everytime I try to empty the Recycle Bin, an error dialog pops up stating Error Deleting File or Folder: Access Denied..When I explore the Recycle Bin folder, it's empty. Then I try to empty the Recycle Bin again. The same message appears.
I have an WD 80G HD which showed used and free space accurately. I just deleted 2 files about 15 gigs each, but it still reports the same free space as before I deleted the files. This happend also on a partition and I had to reformat that to restore proper free space.
I would like to delete a folder without deleting its contents. Copy, Paste and then deleting the folder with its' contents etc can work. But is there any way of getting it as a windows context menu? ie right-clicking and selecting delete folder but not contents.
Today I copied a large folder containing multiple Access databases, Excel workbooks, Word docs, etc. to a totally blank jump drive like I have done 100s of times before. But for the first time in my 'computer life', which started in 1980(!), a file appeared on it with the name EA DATA.SF. Googling the file told me that it was a system file and had something to do with Extended Attributes (whatever that is). But the file is protected; attempts to delete it, even using the command prompt and first removing all attributes (attrib -h -s -r ea*.sf) does not allow it to be deleted.
The Google search showed many cases like this, but none where there was a clear, easy way to delete the file. My questions are:What is this file for/what does it do? Why am I seeing it for the first time in 30 years? How can I delete it. or SHOULD I delete it?
I downloaded IM Names from the internet. Now when I go on MSN Messenger then everytime I double click on a contact, it tells them to go to that website. I want to delete this. How? How do I do it? Why can't I delete the folder?
I read online that sometimes deleting the temporary folder can speed up outlook express. I've already done this in IE, but not on the computer. I believe to get to the folder you Run > %temp% The files said that their is a cleanup utility in XP that can help to clear this folder. I looked on my computer and searched online, but can't find the information on how to get it.
I have a folder that is on my desktop that I want to delete. Unfortunetly, after I delete it, after a few minutes, it comes back. I've tried a number of reg edit programs
When I downloaded the updated drivers for my hp scanner software, an icon appeared on my desktop and if I right click it to delete it my computer freezes. If I drag it to the recycle bin or any other folder it just duplicates it and it is still on the desktop. I can't find anywhere else where I could delete it from the registry for example or add/delete programs list. I can't rename it , to try to delete it, because of the freezing issue. I will never use it so It bothers me that its there.
For a while now "Thumbs.db" files have been appearing in association with other files/folders. They took me by surprise, and I decided to delete. However, there is a warning that the 'system' may need them. What do I do with them? Especially when I am deleting a whole folder.
I have a problem with copying large files (50MB+): Both command line command "copy /B" and copies in Explorer of large files always risult in a slighly different (corrupt) copy without generating any error message. The number of different bytes is proportional to the lenght of the original. The size of the copy is correct. Position and value of the different bytes vary between each copy.
I am using XP SP2 with all the latest updates. When I select more then 150 files in explorer and I right click to copy or delete, windows explorer simply shuts down and displays the message 'encountered a problem and needs to close'.If I select 125 files, then it's OK. If I need to delete 1200 files I need to do this in 10 attempts.
I am trying to delete a few registry keys to fix the Plug and Play Software Enumerator because my audio is not working. When I go to delete the enumerator keys (one folder named "swenum" in particular),I receive this error message: "Cannot delete swenum: Error while deleting key." Under permissions, all users have Full Control, with the exception of the CREATOR OWNER account (the CO account has Special permissions only, I cannot give it Full Control, but I'm not sure if that is an issue). This is on a custom built machine running Windows XP Pro SP2.
When a virus problem was found, my friend eliminated a file when Norton advised him to do so . After deleting the file he now receives the below error message each time the computer is booted. crogra~1softwar~1soproc.exe
I did a google search on the runner error -Invalid Backweb Application ID "137903"-. A website told me to run a search for programs with "backweb" in them and unistall/delete them. I deleted one program (application?) from the C:/ drive and now my computer is frozen. The mouse moves; however, I am unable to open anything including the recycle bin so that I can put the program back on the computer. I have tried to restart and it still happens.

Whenever I open my video folder, it closes the explorer and says error. It happens with several .avi file. For Example, I have .avi file called A B C; the explorer closes whenever file A is in the folder. When it's out of the folder, the explorer works just fine without closing. I use Matroska pack codec, is this the problem? I remember on the error message says something about the codec is not compatible?
Within my, "My Pictures" folder I have a great many sub folders containing thousands of pictures. In all but a couple of folders is the option to view as a filmstrip (which I prefer). However there is a folder (within "My Pictures") that I'm using now that doesn't have that option!Does anyone know why, not all folders in "MY PICTURES", has the option for filmstrip?
When I try to access some folders in my directory I get the following error.Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.I feel like the old blue screen of death would have been easier to fix.Anyone have any suggestions? I read somewhere that this can have something to do with windows explorer 6 but I can't find this in my control panel to remove.I do have service pack 2 installed if that makes any difference.
When moving files on the same drive or from one to another:
"Error Moving File or Folder Cannot remove folder (insert folder name here): The directory is not empty."
This is fairly common (once or twice a month) and it occurs usually with folders containing many subfolders when being moved by explorer gui "Move the selected items", or ctrl-x, ctrl-v . Repeated attempts through the same process seems to move the folders, but the errors increase as the concentration of stubborn folders increases.
While i try to open folder on ftp server from IE explorer 6 on winXP sp2 pro win2003 I get an error message""an error occured that opening folder on ftp server. Make shure you have permission to access that folder."from win 98 or win 2000 i have not problem to open folders.
Sometimes when I cut/copy folders from one location to another the process will stop and give an error message cannot move file with a red x. Clicking on ok cancells the whole cut/copy operation, which can leave you wondering what has or has not been moved and requires trawling through source and target location. Gets a bit annoying when it happens fairly often.
