I am trying to delete a few registry keys to fix the Plug and Play Software Enumerator because my audio is not working.When I go to delete the enumerator keys (one folder named "swenum" in particular),I receive this error message: "Cannot delete swenum: Error while deleting key." Under permissions, all users have Full Control, with the exception of the CREATOR OWNER account (the CO account has Special permissions only, I cannot give it Full Control, but I'm not sure if that is an issue).This is on a custom built machine running Windows XP Pro SP2.

Have an issue that I couldn't find a solution in Google or on these forums, so I am going to post.When deleting a file/folder from an WinXP desktop, typically it would go to the Recycle Bin, incase I need it for later. In this case, it isn't.its just deleting. Not ending up in the Recycle Bin, and no chance to recover. Is there anyway to change so that they end up in the Recycle Bin first, before being deleted?
I am using XP SP2 with all the latest updates.When I select more then 150 files in explorer and I right click to copy or delete,windows explorer simply shuts down and displays the message 'encountered a problem and needs to close'.If I select 125 files, then it's OK. If I need to delete 1200 files I need to do this in 10 attempts.
I have a folder in My Documents labelled "Misc." I guess I gave it that name quite some time ago, but it is empty and I can't get rid of it. When I click on it I get, "Error deleting file or folder - Cannot delete file. Cannot read from the source file or disk."

After migrating my win xp pro system to a bigger hard drive using the Western Digital tools, everytime I try to empty the Recycle Bin, an error dialog pops up stating Error Deleting File or Folder: Access Denied..When I explore the Recycle Bin folder, it's empty. Ive got a file on my desktop I cant Move, or Delete. Ive tried using Other Software, doesnt work,Says filename is Invalid. I cant rename the file,the context menu for the file is different than any other file, removing the Rename, Delete, and everything Useful... I cant open the File, btw was supposed to be a picture... I did a google search on the runner error -Invalid Backweb Application ID "137903"-. A website told me to run a search for programs with "backweb" in them and unistall/delete them. I deleted one program (application?) from the C:/ drive and now my computer is frozen. The mouse moves; however, I am unable to open anything including the recycle bin so that I can put the program back on the computer. I have tried to restart and it still happens.
window loads, sits, finally other half will load, mouse just doesn't seem to do anything so you click again and 3 minutes later 2 of whatever will finally open... just annoying crap really A few days ago comcast went off and I had to unplug modem, wait, then plug back up and restart system. I got a "Disk read error press control, alt, delete, to restart" error, tried that same thing so I shut down and when I turned back on it booted fine. I have since moved... just set up the system and am getting the same error except this time shutdown/restart isn't working ( The OTHER problem I realize is this... this is a tempory move! Most everything I own is in a storage unit, boxes to the back, furniture to the front and guess where my disks are? Right! I put printer, shredder, disks, everything I didn't just HAVE to have in the storage unit.
I would like to delete a folder without deleting its contents. Copy, Paste and then deleting the folder with its' contents etc can work. But is there any way of getting it as a windows context menu? ie right-clicking and selecting delete folder but not contents.
Whenever I try to do pretty much anything I get a "javascript:void(0)" error... let me explain: If I try to read my hotmail, for example, if I try to read, delete, send, mail or whatever on MSN, it just doesn't load and says javascript:void(0). If I try to go to Windows Update, same thing happened. If I try to run help and support, or try to run a Restore point, the thing goes blank, doing nothing. If I try to watch music videos from let's say, MTV, VH1, AOL, etc. nothing works. If I try to open Windows Media Player, it gives some internal server error and closes...........
When I start up, I get a black screen with this: Disk read error occurred Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete to restart So I do. Same thing happens. I don't have any CDs or anything in the drive. The computer had also been shutting down randomly on me prior to this.
i recently attempted to format my computer as it was going very slowly, i did the usual process of inserting the recovery cd's which came with the computer however this time the process did not complete, i left it for over an hour and the screen still remained the same. I decided to restart the computer and a message keeps coming up, disk read error press ctrl alt delete. I tried formatting again but all i get is a blank screen even before its begun, i tried using windows xp cd's
I have a user with a home driectory that has created a folder with mutliple folders within it. I am not sure how far the direcroty goes, but I have counted to at least 26 directories deep. I cannot delete the parent folder in either explorer, or from the prompt. At the prompt I have tried RD foldername and it says, "Folder not empty". Tried del foldername*.* with no error and still cannot delete it.
I have a very large, corrupt disc image on my hard drive that I want to delete, but every time I try to delete it Windows displays the message "Cannot delete 'filename': it is being used by another person or program. Close any programs that might be using the file and try again." The disc image is not mounted with any program, and hasn't been for some time. I tried aborting random processes that I thought might have something to do with the file, as well as restarting. No matter what I do, there seems to be something using the file. Are there any tricks to getting around this so I can delete it? Can I check, somehow, to see what program is using it?

when i press ctrl alt del all i get is a box three things on the bottom , nothing on the top so i cant go anywhere else i cant delete the box either i have to reduse it and hide it in a corner.
When I start up whether in SAFE Mode or Normal I automatically get the Confirm Delete Message. This applies to programs, icons, photos, documents , folders etc - I cannot get to any of my work to back it up. I have tried Stinger -F-Force and W32.Blackmal@mm Removal Tools. Ran a full AVG scan with uptodate anti virus and Adaware Spyware. Sorry forgot to mention other things tried. The Pop up message does not appear in the Task Manger either as applications or processes. Each time you respongd NO to negate the delete it pops up again. There is no way I can get to any of my folders or files to burn to a CD as backup without the Confirm Delete message.
I am attempting to clean out my temp files on my Windows XP Home. The files and folders that I am addressing are: C:WINDOWSTEMP*.* *.OLD *.CHK *.BAK ~*.* _*.* and MSCREATE.DIRI have managed to clean all but one, which is _*.* When I run the search, I get the result of 144 files. I click on edit, select all, then file, delete. I receive the following error "cannot delete file: Cannot read the source file or disk" (please view screen shot). When I right click, I have no delete option, just "open containing folder, copy, and extract. (please view screen shot). I have run AdAware, Spybot, Ewido, and Avg Free. I also have CCleaner, Easy Clean which I have run. I have also used "Move On Boot" by putting the file path in the MOB window and try to have MOB delete the file. MOB says the file will be removed on the next boot.
When I run defrag on my C drive, the program tells me that there are certain files that cannot be defragmented. When I go to delete these files, I am not able to find them on my hard drive. It tells me that the files are in C:\WINDOWSTemp but when I look in that folder no such files exist. When I check the properties of the folder, it tells me there are 4 GB in it but it only shows 4 MB worth of files. How can I delete these files when I can't find them
i have win xp. when i try to delete files they go to the recycle bin but a copy is made of the file everytime i delete. i get copy 2 , then copy 3 right on up to as many times as i delete it. i'm not getting anywhere
while I was working on my computer, my operating system crashed but well, I have backed my system up, and I knew I can restore it in 5 minutes. but the problem was that I had some important files on drive C: (my system drive) which I will have to delete then restore I know I can repair my system but I knew it won't be satisfying for me
I have been trying to delete an old Windows file on one of my hard disks, but i never could because of the "access denied" error message. No matter what i did, they couldn't be deleted. So finally, i stumpled across a site that explained that the files need to have the right "ownership" to delete. So, i follow the instructions and set me as the owner, but it will only do that to one folder. I then have to go one by one and set the properties for each sub-folder seperatley, and there's hundreds of them. Is there any way to delete all of the files without regard to what user owns them? Or how can i make ALL files AND subfolders be set at once
