Whenever I open my video folder, it closes the explorer and says error. It happens with several .avi file. For Example, I have .avi file called A B C; the explorer closes whenever file A is in the folder. When it's out of the folder, the explorer works just fine without closing. I use Matroska pack codec, is this the problem? I remember on the error message says something about the codec is not compatible?
For some reason, windows explorer has started locking up when I open a folder with many video clips in it (pretty much any folder with more than 50).I have a feeling that this is a codec problem, but I've installed pretty much every codec I can find and I'm still getting the problem.

So whenever I open a video file a small window pops up titled Windows Explorer stating that "Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the Inconvenience." When I close that the window from which I opened the video file closes. However the video file stays open and I can watch it just fine. But other times it will also close the video file too.

I then shut my computer down to restart it, used it a few times (in 4-bit safe mode), then after I shutdown again, I cant log back in... it just freezes and the screen flashes, I cannot boot into my computer setup (default f2) or into safe mode (default f8), however I can run the XP cd and get into the recovery console, is there any way that I can change the boot sequence from the recovery console? The screen is dotted with a bunch of dots up and down the screen in columns, and is in 4-bit video mode.

View 9 Replies View RelatedWhen I try to open a folder of a program it doesn't work. I click the folder and the mouse changes to the mouse and hourglass picture but nothing happens after that. Sometimes I get that error sound but no message pops up. Then the title on the title bar of my applications goes blank and I no longer can click the menu that says file, edit, view,It highlights it but it won't let me click it. I also cannot right click anymore and when I try to reset my computer, it highlights it but I can't click that either.I also can't open the task manager when it happens nor can I type in my address bar or open a new tab for my browser.. Now when I start up the Works word processor and I use the "Open" function, it always opens in "My Documents". When I use "WordPad" it opens in the last folder used. Is there a way to make the Works word processor act like this? If not, is there a way to change the default opening folder? (Also is there a way to change the default location where a file is saved?)
Also, since this is closely related, I'll ask this: When you use the Open function in the Works wp, you get the "Open" dialog box. At the bottom there is a drop down box called, "Files of type". It always opens with "Works Document (*.wps). If you click the drop down box, one of the options is "All Files (*.*). Is there a way to change it to this?
hi, since today when i use explorer on my second partition it takes a few seconds to open root folders. hdd gets noisy, grinding for a while, explorer process reaches 90 ish % and then it opens a folder. i must add that all other folders open properly. the other issue accompanying it is jerky sound when playing audio or video files located even on another hdd. this is quite a fresh installation of win xp pro. no viruses detected, no bad sectors, defragmented, etc. this is a sata hdd, connecting it to another controler did not help as well. it seems to me like the problem could be physical rather than software. what do you think ?

It doesn't take more than a second or two to close the window but I find it frustrating that I am unable to prevent it from happening. If I right click on one of my folders and go down and left click on open the folder will open and the contents displayed as I expect (The first opetion displayed is a search after I right click). I installed my brand new Creative sound card, I installed its software and drivers all fine and the PC restarted fine. Next creative wanted to update the drivers and I let it. After it was done installling the new drivers it needed a restart. On restart I could not even get to the post screen and was displayed with an error saying USB over current, PC shutdown in 20 seconds. At first i could not get past this error at all, so i tried taking out the sound card and putting inserting it again. I did not get the USB error now and was happy.
I played Battlefield 2142 for a few hours then shut it down. Now today when i get home from work and turn it on i saw that USB over current error again and got frusterated. After taking the sound card out and putting it back in I had some new problems. I only saw my Asus Splash screen saying "press delete to enter setup" although pressing delete did nothing, it just hung on that screen.
Whenever I open my folder with video files win. explorer CPU usage jumps to 50% although I didn't watch any clips When I close the folder CPU usage remains the same and there is no open applications. I am running XP SP3 with all the current updates.

About 75% of the times that I open up "my pictures" in "my documents" (where I store lots of my digital photos) I get the error message where it asks you if you want to send an error report. Whether I choose to or not, or even if I simply shut the message, "my pictures" closes and I therefore cannot access the folder. The other 25% of the time it opens fine.As I say, it's just photos and short videos stored in here, all taken by my own digital camera. Virus and other problem checkers haven't detected anything, and there's no reason to suspect these files are infected with anything.
