is it possible to download a file straight to the E (cd burner) drive? i don't know what i am doing, so playing around i just downloaded a file to that location, but it says the files are ~ready~ to be written to the cd and i don't know what steps to take next. i would be grateful for any guidance (oooh, and question - if i do manage to get files directly to the cd like that, will they still leave traces just as if i'd downloaded them to the hard drive?)
I've a computer with Windows XP Pro, which is not connected to the internet. Now, I want to update it in order to be all up-to-date and secured again. So I don't mean by just downloading SP2, but by installing all security patches available ever since! So I need to download everything first, burn it on CD, and then install the patches on my other computer. No problem. But the problem is: where can I download all those updates?! I've searched all over the net, and all I found was softwarepatch.com; it only contains english updates, and since I've a Dutch version of XP installed, those won't work. Simply changing the urls from xxx-ENU.exe to xxx-NLD.exe doesn't work either, different languages of the same patch seem to be hosted under a whole other url.
my pc boots directly to the desktop. I want the boot process to stop at the welcome screen, at which I will enter my password. Such was the case when I last used my computer, 3 days ago. No known changes. Windows updates is set to manual. There are 2 accounts, un & administrator. Both are members of "Administrators" group. I am trying to log on as un. The computer is neither part of a domain or workgroup. start > run > control userpasswords 2 advanced tab > "users must enter a username & password" is selected.
I used to use the XP home netwroking to provide internet connection to my xbox 360 i used the "home or small office network" wizard and chosed the first option which says "This computer connects directly to the internet..." so it takes the internet connection from the wireless network , and provide it the xbox through the LAN connection and it was working without any problem for a long time but lately i couldn't connect to the internet in the xbox and i found that the error was in the IP address the laptop is not giving the xbox an IP address at all

I have a computer that is linked to a linksys wireless router by a wireless ethernet bridge. My internet was working properly until a couple of weeks ago when it just stopped working. My internet connection says imited or no connectivity and packets are only being sent not recieved. I have connected my computer directly to the modem so it is not going through the linksys hardware at all and there is still no connection. I have checked all of my computers hardware and it says everything is working properly. Also I have made sure all the drivers are updated and working properly.
I am using Windows XP Home Edition. When booting up, Windows goes directely to loading files and takes at least 20 minutes before the sign in screen appears. Do you have a answer to solve this problem?
I am the only user on winXP and ,therefore, I did not have the necessity of creating any user accounts and the windows boot directly into "welcome" screen. Of course, I am comfortable that way. Lately, I read somewhere that winXP is safer if operated on a non-admin account because not all application can be accessed from such an account. Hence the need for advice regarding User Accounts. When I open the User Accounts from Control Panel I find three accounts mentioned there.
I have a problem with windows 2k or at least when it's booting up.When my computer boots, it asks me if I want to run win xp, win 2k, or win 2k start up. I just want it to boot directly to 2k without prompting me.

I have been having problems with my computer and a frend told me to download Windows XP OEM SP2 using a torrent website and UTORRENT. However, i'm not sure if my computer is OEM or not, so if I downloaded OEM version, would this mess up my computer even more? Or shall i just download Windows XP SP2?
I want to download Microsoft's antispyware beta. But I've never downloaded anything before.I've started a few but I get confused when I'm suppose to click on "run" or "save", so I end up canceling. I'm pretty new to all this computer stuff but I was able to figure out that I can probably do either one. What I need to know are the steps to take for both. I hope I'm making sense. If not I'll try again.
I have a laptop beside me that i had to do a recovery on, since then it has not allowed me to install SP2, It just hangs when it gets to the registry key bit.
I have a Dell computer, running Windows XP my ISP is Sympatico., that about all that I have learned recently.I have Norton Anti-virus installed. What steps to do I take before I download anything from a website?Someone said, I have to disable my anti-virus program, is this true? Recently my computer just started restarting itself. I haven't quite pinpointed when yet but it seems that it does it when i'm running IE or downloading something. It just does it randomly.
Everytime I try to download and run anything I get a message saying that the path (c: bla bla bla ) is valid. But it is for a machine other than this one.
