My IE windows keep opening at slightly less than max.I know there isa trick to resize the window manually and then close it.But it still opens at less-than-max size.I've also tried opening a second window and manually resizing it and then closing the first window then the second. It still doesn't fix it.
View 8 RepliesI currently have Windows ME installed on my Compaq Presario. It's driving me nuts, crashes too much. Instead of dealing with it any longer, I'd like to install XP. My sister has a Presario as well, that came with XP installed and the usual Rescue Disk. I never receieved one with my computer, because I got screwed (long story), and I never created one when I first got the computer, since it belonged to someone else at the time.If I uninstalled my ME, could I use my sister's XP rescue disk that came with her newer Compaq Presario to install XP on mine? Or is it specifically for use with that computer, and no other.

I just had my HJT log analyzed and it's clean. I'm still having problems on my home computer (at work now), but images are STILL not displaying correctly online. Also I've noticed that certain emoticons, smilies that are animated do not move (are not animated.) Anyone have a clue as to why? I've got the latest Java, or at least I think so. There has been some setting that was changed, and for the life of me I can't figure it out.
View 14 Replies View Relatedwhen my computer is running, especially when i have just booted it and its loaded, my computer seems to lag uncontrollably and basically won't process any commands. ive gone to windows task manager and located that svchost.exe is causing all the problem. when i end the task, my visual stuff like the things that make it look nice dissapeared and my sound stops functioning until i restart my pc again. im assuming it has something to do with graphics or sound driver.

how do i make windows "2000/nt/xp loader" the default choice on the grub 1.5 boot loader? i have 4 other choices and windows is at the bottom. i have ubuntu 9.04 and it's recovery (i have 2 sets of thse but they do the same thing). it automatically loads ubuntu 9.04 after a few seconds. How can i make it choose windows by default and maybe even decrease the timeout? (i'm willing to do this inside windows or ubuntu if needed i cannot do this from within grub).

I have a desktop which I always have Num Lock on as it has its own dedicated keypad. The problem is when I Remote Desktop into my laptop my laptop does not have the dedicated keypad the numbers on the keypad portion are actually 1/3rd of the letters on the keyboard (I.E I,O,P would be 7,8,9) when numlock is on. It's fine until I disconnect and I go home...
When I get home I start typing as I normally would but half the letters look like numbers because the Num Lock is still on from when I used Remote Desktop to connect in.
I know the obvoius solution is to turn off Numlock on my PC before I disconnect Remote Desktop from the Laptop but I really just want the Laptop to revert back to its original keyboard state once I disconnect...
Anyone know of a solution?
I was wondering if there was a setting for these fonts and sizes.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm having an EXTREMELY frustrating problem on both FireFox and IE. For some reason certain text in some places is bigger than the text in other places. Let me give you an example:

See the two different size fonts? They should be the same size, but they aren't! I've had this problem for months on this machine and I've tried furiously to get rid of it. Of course, I've tried messing around with the general font size (Ctrl & +/-), but here's an example of what happens:

After (NOW note that the banner at the top is too BIG - it messes up the graphic even!):
There seem to be 2 places in IE to change font size, Tools | Internet Options; Fonts to select the web & plain text fonts and Accessibility to select or ignore font styles & sizes. I simply cannot find the right combination to be able to have consistent
fonts on all pages. If I check "ignore font size" then the pages use my font but the font seems to vary from web page to web page. I have to click the "size" button on the toolbar. With this unchecked some web pages have really BIG fonts and some have such small fonts that I cannot read them and have to select the "ignore font size" again.

I recently had some problems with some viruses and stuff and my system was still a bit "off" even after I removed them. Luckily I have Acronis True image and was able to revert back to a nice state of operation. As nice and clean as my system is right now I find that not everything is still not hunky. Some fonts stay the wrong sizes and other cosmetic things, so I have decided I should also run the Windows XP repair option again just to make everything right. My question is..What can I expect after I run it? Will all of my applications stilll function etc?

During the first 5 minutes after boot-up, screen resolution on my desk top is unstable with icon and window sizes changing from large to small and vice-versa. Resetting the Display Properties during this time has no effect. When the system warms up the problem is gone. Can the Monitor itself be the problem, or is it most likely the Video Card? I don't have another monitor to use as a test unit.

First 2 for the intended ini, the second the old improper, though still currently functional, boot.ini.old. Both of these are on separate partions on the first internal hard drive, and I have tried turning off my 1 external during boot-up as well as disabling my 2nd internal on the "boot settings", with the same results.The default should be the "Graphics" system, according to the Boot.ini
View 10 Replies View RelatedTo set different printers for different programs? About half of the printing I do at work has to be on letterhead, so I set my default printer and settings to letterhead. However, when I just want to print an
e-mail from outlook, I'd like to be able to print on plain paper.
As it is, Outlook won't let me modify my printer preferences so that it will just print an e-mail on plain paper.
Does anyone know how to changing that default choice? I want an administrator account and a public account. In the public account I don't want any right-clicking, changing desktop icons, things like this. I also want all of the things left on the desktop (downloads, shortcuts, etc.) to be gone when they log out. I did look at group policy editor but I don't like it. So I put System Policy Editor on it from a Windows Server 2000 CD.I have a .POL file made already and can't get it to work. Any websites on this would also be great.
Every time I open an explorer window on a floppy the window is maximized. Everytime I create a new folder, the default size is maximized. Whenever I plug in my flash drive, the window size is max. I already have remember folder size enabled, but it appears that each of the scenerios above are not included in this "memory" So the question is, how do I set the default size for each of the above to something other that max?
View 10 Replies View RelatedI have an XP laptop that has both a dial up and an ethernet location. When at work I use an ethernet cable to check e-mail and connect to the internet. When at home I use a mindspring dial up. When I am at work with my ethernet connection, whenever I try to get onto the internet I get a message saying that I am offline. A get a message asking me to connect or cancel. When I connect, it does take me to the correct page. This happens all of the time. I can connect to each page every time I get this message but is seems to think I am in dial up mode.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI've had XP 64 installed for a about 10 days now and everything is working fine. I didn't have any issues with drivers or applications. The default install and updates seem to use two versions of IE (64 and 32). I've swapped all my icons to choose the 32 bit version since there is no flash support for 64 bit browsers at this time. My problem is that I get a lot of links inside emails and when I click on those it always uses the 64 bit version. I've tried to change the default browser option through control panel but it only offers the option of IE and won't let me select which IE. I also have IE 32 set to check to make sure it's the default browser. I've done some Google searches but I must not be asking the right question because I can's find much on IE 64.
