View 4 RepliesIs there any way to have a default Browser? I want every program that has links to open up in say. Firefox, I have tried setting it as my default browser in the settings option, and in "Set programs access and defaults". It works quite well... But can I get MSN Messenger to open up in that browser? When I click on my e-mails or MSN Space Etc. It opens up in Internet Explorer. Is there ANY way to open it in my default browser?
View 5 Replies View Relatedwhen I clicked on a link from Windows Live Messenger, not firefox came up, but IE6. I was a bit surprised, and checked the settings, but Firefox was still the default browser. Since then, every links from an other application (WLM, Google Talk, ...) open in IE. I want every links to be opened in firefox.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI've had XP 64 installed for a about 10 days now and everything is working fine. I didn't have any issues with drivers or applications. The default install and updates seem to use two versions of IE (64 and 32). I've swapped all my icons to choose the 32 bit version since there is no flash support for 64 bit browsers at this time. My problem is that I get a lot of links inside emails and when I click on those it always uses the 64 bit version. I've tried to change the default browser option through control panel but it only offers the option of IE and won't let me select which IE. I also have IE 32 set to check to make sure it's the default browser. I've done some Google searches but I must not be asking the right question because I can's find much on IE 64.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI use Firefox as my main web browser. I've set it as the default browser in Internet Properties and most of the time it appears when I want it to. However, some third-party software will insist, when it needs to access the internet (e.g. when I'm trying to register it), on trying to open Internet Explorer. Is this some quirk of the third-party software, or is there anything I can do in Windows XP (home) to fix this minor annoyance?
View 6 Replies View RelatedWhen I try to change it to Firefox or any other browser, I try it 2 ways, one, by going to Start> set Program access anf defaults, and the other way by clicking the browser I want and when it says "Firefox is not your default, would you like to makeit so" I click yes andit seems to act like it is changing my browser, but then when I try to go to a site it keeps opening it with Avant. I never had this problem when I used only IE and wanted to change my default to Firefox. It always worked then but since I loaded Avant and started using it I can't get back to my other browsers. I also tried using Tools> Internet options> programs> and clicking on "make IE default browser and that did change it to IE but I couldn't get back to FF as default browser.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI was and still am having trouble with Windows Exployer. I can open it, but after opening a couple of pages it logs itself off. This is still happening. I tried using Firefox instead (now have both loaded) and have it listed as the Default, but I get an Unable To Connect error everytime now. Links try to open in Firefox and will not open.
1) Why is Exployer logging off?
2) Why can't I connect with Firefox?
3) Which do feel is better?
4) How do I set up default browser? ( I can't remember how I did it)
I would like to change Mozilla Firefox to be the default browser in Win XP Pro. Currently the default is Internet Explorer. Now I know that Mozilla has a function to do this automatically, however I would like to be able to change it back again later if I want to.
View 4 Replies View RelatedWhen Opera 6.02 is installed on a fresh copy of WinNT 5.1 (Home or Professional), there is a chance that you are unable to select it to act as the "default browser" icon on the Start Menu.To change the "default browser" icon, you would normally go to the Start Menu properties, select Customize, and then select your browser of choice from the drop-down menu. However, a fresh install of Opera 6.02 may not show up here.

When I open Internet Explorer, my home page (www.google.com) opens. When it is finished loading, it automatically redirets to yahoo mail login page. The catch is, all my browsers windows that are open will be changed too. If I hit "stop" before the page is loaded, then hit "refresh", this action does not occur. I have Microsoft updates automatically downloade do my computer. I have the latest MacAfee anti-virus on my computer and have run the latest scan. I have run Microsoft beta spy-ware, ad aware and yahoo's version. I am not seeing anything.

First 2 for the intended ini, the second the old improper, though still currently functional, boot.ini.old. Both of these are on separate partions on the first internal hard drive, and I have tried turning off my 1 external during boot-up as well as disabling my 2nd internal on the "boot settings", with the same results. The default should be the "Graphics" system, according to the Boot.ini

My laptop was in perfect working order last night but when I came to turn it on this morning it wouldn't. No screen, no sound. Tried again and got a high pitched continuos beep from it so turned it off/on again, nothing. Pressed F8 to try start it up in safe mode but it wont do that either. There is NO screen at all coming up. If i cant start it up in safe mode is it DEAD?
View 8 Replies View RelatedYesterday he was trying to copy a DVD. As far as I understand (which is limited), it froze and he turned it off. When you try to switch it on, you get a black screen with a white message. the jist of it says that Windows shut down and that to restart it you need to choose a mode - it gives you options 'safe mode' 'last known settings that worked' 'normal mode' etc. We have tried all of these modes. the most successful of which always looks really promising - you get the blue windows screen, logo and jingle it looks like it is starting up but then dies and the screen goes black. When you turn it on you get the black screen again and go around in circles.
View 2 Replies View RelatedFor some reason, if I log on to my account (an administrator account), then log off, none of the other users (my husband's admin. account or the kids' limited user accts) can be signed on. XP sits on the welcome screen for an unusually long time, then goes to just the user's wallpaper screen (no icons, no taskbar, nothing). Can't pull up task manager or warm boot, have to shut down & restart. I can log on any of the other accounts, and log off, and switch to mine, but not vice versa. Even if I don't do ANYTHING after signing on. So, the problems seems to be with my account settings somehow.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to play Diablo II: LoD, which requires that the LoD expansion CD be in my CDROM drive. I mounted an image of the disc with Daemon such that it's in (virtual) Drive E: (normal CDROM drive is D:). But the game seems to only be checking my D: Drive for the disc, and it won't let me point to the E: Drive.
Is there a way to just switch the drive letters around, and if so, do you think this would even solve my problem? Perhaps there's a way I can just set E: as my default CDROM drive, so that the game would check there?
I recently installed win xp and now my wire;ess switch is not working. is off.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI installed XP SP3 last night, and all was seeming pretty ok, surprisingly. But I've discovered that I can no longer switch between users. When I try to switch, the system freezes as it is loading the desktop for the second user and all I can do is reboot to get out of it. infuriating! There's no problem at all if I log out of my user account, and my wife then logs into hers. but they just won't run at the same time as they used to. I've tried checking to see if Terminal Services and RPC are running in the services list, and both are, so it's not that.

I have a 160gb sata drive and on 100gb of it I have windows xp sp2 installed and the remaining I have xp sp1 installed so I can switch between the two.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just bought a KVM swith (JustCom) for 2 XP machines, and it worked for a bout 10 seconds )as both machines were booting) then one of the PCs "found new hardware" and "installed" it, and it stopped working. There is a key combination to make it toggle, and it simply doesn't work. It could be the fault of the switch I'm sure, but then I would think they would blame it on windows. I noticed in the Device Manager that it says Com1, Com2 and the VGA adaptor have problems, basically there are no drivers installed. I tried to reinstall, update, roll back, install from the Windows CD, tried a windows update, and it says there are no drivers available to install or reinstall. I tried several System Restores and it always
says it couldn't do the restore (no reason given). Any suggestions? The only thing I can think of is maybe trying to Uninstall the hardware, or maybe reinstall windows
