I just had my HJT log analyzed and it's clean. I'm still having problems on my home computer (at work now), but images are STILL not displaying correctly online. Also I've noticed that certain emoticons, smilies that are animated do not move (are not animated.) Anyone have a clue as to why? I've got the latest Java, or at least I think so. There has been some setting that was changed, and for the life of me I can't figure it out.
I currently have Windows ME installed on my Compaq Presario. It's driving me nuts, crashes too much. Instead of dealing with it any longer, I'd like to install XP. My sister has a Presario as well, that came with XP installed and the usual Rescue Disk. I never receieved one with my computer, because I got screwed (long story), and I never created one when I first got the computer, since it belonged to someone else at the time.If I uninstalled my ME, could I use my sister's XP rescue disk that came with her newer Compaq Presario to install XP on mine? Or is it specifically for use with that computer, and no other.
My IE windows keep opening at slightly less than max.I know there isa trick to resize the window manually and then close it.But it still opens at less-than-max size.I've also tried opening a second window and manually resizing it and then closing the first window then the second. It still doesn't fix it.
when my computer is running, especially when i have just booted it and its loaded, my computer seems to lag uncontrollably and basically won't process any commands. ive gone to windows task manager and located that svchost.exe is causing all the problem. when i end the task, my visual stuff like the things that make it look nice dissapeared and my sound stops functioning until i restart my pc again. im assuming it has something to do with graphics or sound driver.
Okay this is driving me nutso - I have checked the RD client on the PC side and there is nothing to turn this off anywhere...
I have a desktop which I always have Num Lock on as it has its own dedicated keypad. The problem is when I Remote Desktop into my laptop my laptop does not have the dedicated keypad the numbers on the keypad portion are actually 1/3rd of the letters on the keyboard (I.E I,O,P would be 7,8,9) when numlock is on. It's fine until I disconnect and I go home...
When I get home I start typing as I normally would but half the letters look like numbers because the Num Lock is still on from when I used Remote Desktop to connect in.
I know the obvoius solution is to turn off Numlock on my PC before I disconnect Remote Desktop from the Laptop but I really just want the Laptop to revert back to its original keyboard state once I disconnect...
Anyway I bought a HP2200(That's what it said on the box)it has been a bugger since I bought it. it ended up crashing once and I had to take it to the repairman..$150.00 later he said I should of recieved a winXP disc with it but I didn't receive any discs with it. I called the store I bought it from and they said they don't come with any as they are preloaded.I am not comfotrable with that because I tried the preload instuctions when I had the problem and it didn't do anything and had to take it to the repair dude.So is there anyway I can make a copy of XP? I have a burner
I work at a Job Corps Center where we have three clerical trade shops loaded with Windows XP computers. We need to install a retriction that will create an Administrator Password that can not be deleted by simply logging into safe mode. Also, we need to make it impossible for the students to create their own accounts with their own passwords. Right now the teachers are having a hard time, because several knuckleheads keep making a mess by changing the instructor's passwords and creating their own unique ones. How can we create those restrictions?
i recenty reinstalled xp and for some reason it only partitioned 4.87GB of my 120GB HD...i got another xp cd and tried to delete the existing partion and create a new one but it wouldn't let me saying that, there was temporary files needed for installation on that partition.
I need to do a clean install of Windows XP on a system that previously ran Windows 2000. I deleted the partition via the Windows Install/Setup menu, but when the PC boots, it lists Windows 2K as one of the startup/OS options. I need to be able to do an /fdisk on the whole drive and start from scratch. Unfortunately, I only have a basic Windows XP installation CD - and if there's a way to get to a prompt and do it from there, I can't remember. Could anyone direct me to a bootable CD that will allow me to /fdisk and delete and create partitions? I need something quick and fast. I'm not permitted to download or install anything without permission and my boss is out of town until Thursday. He may call in tomorrow (or he may not). So please, don't point me to Bart's PE or anything that requires installing an .ISO burner. I need to be able to do this with the tools that Windows XP, SP 2 native. These are laptops I'm working with and they do not have floppy drives, so I cannot use floppy disks.
Under Computer Management, all I see is the C drive and the CD-Rom drive. I was trying to follow Microsoft's directions to create another drive (where I want to just store documents, pictures and music). The instructions say I am supposed to right-click on unallocated space on the C drive and then I should get some kind of partition wizard.but I have tried right-clicking everywhere!
I have just done a fresh install of XP Home on one of my computers and had quite a bit of trouble getting some drivers. Prior to doing anything else with that computer I would like to do a backup ( preferably complete ) on to a DVD(s) that will simplify an instillation if I ever end up having to reformat. If something happens down the road I would just like to install XP and then use my backup to restore it to what I have today. Any suggestions on how I should go about it and what software, free would be nice, that will allow me to do this? I hope I made myself clear as to my intentions.
it's not about changing pagefile size or moving it - all of a sudden I can't create it on my machine. 2 HD (plenty of space one each) Win XP SP3, Athlon xp2400 - 2 gig RAM.Did all the appropriate things like defrag and set all the permissions of the admin and users in Safe Mode.Doesn't matter which of the 2 drives I select, doesn't matter what size or even system managed - allocated memory is always 0. Every reboot the error 'you have no pagefile or it's too small' still comes up.I tried to use Recovery Console from my CD - but I get the message your version of Windows (SP3) is newer than the version on the CD - you will overwrite it if you re-install. So I cancel out.
I have just installed Win XP and all the drivers needed for the hardware to work plus a few games etc. Now I wonder if there is a way to make a recovery cd of all this information so I can use that CD/DVD instead of my Win xp CD if I need to reinstall the system again.
I've been fiddling with my computer lately because it has lots of issues, and I came across yet another one. When I open up a folder and right click > New > Briefcase, I get this:[pop-up #1]Windows cannot ind 'C:WINDOWSsystem32, undll32.com'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the Search button, and then click Search.[pop-up #2, once I click "OK" in pop-up #1]. Unable to create the file 'New Briefcase'File system error (16389). Also when I start up my computer, I get a message identical to pop-up #1, except the file is "1". Just the number 1. It seems to be harmless though. As far as I know, the .com extension is unusual. Could it be malware/spyware?
so i am trying to install windows xp pro on my dell xps 600, my problem is that it has vista on it now and every time i boot from the xp disk to install it is saying that i need to create a partition, and i do not know how to do this,

How does one create one's own, legitimate Windows XP CD from the files on one's computer? For example, if you own a legitimate, Authentic copy of Windows XP, but the disk becomes damaged or lost, what does one do, short of buying a retail replacement disk? The computer has "I386" folders, but none of them, nor any cabs, contain files such as filename.*
how do you create a self install cd of windows BUT installing it without any windows screens showing up only the ones I made myself. then it reloads to boot the system.
As of now i am getting to know more about windows 2000. I have installed it on one of my old computers. Does anyone know how to create a folder that has a target in Windows XP? It has been done on some of our machines, but I am having trouble recreating it. The folder appears in the start menu and has an arrow next to it so you can mouse to the folder and the menu of links shows up next to it. This gives a cleaner look than putting a shortcut on the start menu.
