View 10 RepliesDoes anyone know how to create a folder that has a target in Windows XP? It has been done on some of our machines, but I am having trouble recreating it. The folder appears in the start menu and has an arrow next to it so you can mouse to the folder and the menu of links shows up next to it. This gives a cleaner look than putting a shortcut on the start menu.
View 1 Replies View RelatedIs there any way to create a zipped folder from the command line? "Compact" doesn't really do what I want (just uses drivespace or something to compress the folder). What I'm trying to do is make a simple batch file that creates a folder, throws a bunch of files with the same extenstion into it, and then zips it up- but without a command line version of the built-in windows zip program this will be impossible (through batch file anyway).

View 9 Replies View RelatedI work at a Job Corps Center where we have three clerical trade shops loaded with Windows XP computers. We need to install a retriction that will create an Administrator Password that can not be deleted by simply logging into safe mode. Also, we need to make it impossible for the students to create their own accounts with their own passwords. Right now the teachers are having a hard time, because several knuckleheads keep making a mess by changing the instructor's passwords and creating their own unique ones. How can we create those restrictions?

I need to be able to do an /fdisk on the whole drive and start from scratch. Unfortunately, I only have a basic Windows XP installation CD - and if there's a way to get to a prompt and do it from there, I can't remember. Could anyone direct me to a bootable CD that will allow me to /fdisk and delete and create partitions? I need something quick and fast. View 4 Replies View RelatedI have just done a fresh install of XP Home on one of my computers and had quite a bit of trouble getting some drivers. Prior to doing anything else with that computer I would like to do a backup ( preferably complete ) on to a DVD(s) that will simplify an instillation if I ever end up having to reformat. If something happens down the road I would just like to install XP and then use my backup to restore it to what I have today. Any suggestions on how I should go about it and what software, free would be nice, that will allow me to do this? I hope I made myself clear as to my intentions.
View 8 Replies View Relatedit's not about changing pagefile size or moving it - all of a sudden I can't create it on my machine.
2 HD (plenty of space one each) Win XP SP3, Athlon xp2400 - 2 gig RAM.Did all the appropriate things like defrag and set all the permissions of the admin and users in Safe Mode.Doesn't matter which of the 2 drives I select, doesn't matter what size or even system managed - allocated memory is always 0. Every reboot the error 'you have no pagefile or it's too small' still comes up.I tried to use Recovery Console from my CD - but I get the message your version of Windows (SP3) is newer than the version on the CD - you will overwrite it if you re-install. So I cancel out.
I have just installed Win XP and all the drivers needed for the hardware to work plus a few games etc. Now I wonder if there is a way to make a recovery cd of all this information so I can use that CD/DVD instead of my Win xp CD if I need to reinstall the system again.

When I open up a folder and right click > New > Briefcase, I get this:[pop-up #1]Windows cannot ind 'C:WINDOWSsystem32, undll32.com'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the Search button, and then click Search.[pop-up #2, once I click "OK" in pop-up #1]. Unable to create the file 'New Briefcase'File system error (16389). Also when I start up my computer, I get a message identical to pop-up #1, except the file is "1". Just the number 1. It seems to be harmless though. As far as I know, the .com extension is unusual. Could it be malware/spyware?
