My Recent Documents Folder Always Empty
Jun 10, 2004in my start menu My recent documents folder it always displays as empty Ive activated it following Start>Properties>Customize>Advanced> Checking the box under recent documents history...but files that open wont appear..
Also I went to the registry and did the following under and in the entry NoRecentDocs History put the value to 0 and it still would work. I don't think I have the Tweak UI program on my Machine, I did not see it in my control panel, still I removed a app. called Power Toys for win, having this still no effect on the situation
Opened Drop Drown Menu My Documents - Doesn't Seem Not Work
Apr 22, 2006I discovered that when I opened the Drop Down Menu in My Documents to move some image files into their appropriate folders, that My Documents which normally has the + next to it, that you click on to show all of your folders, well that is gone. Now I have to open an existing folder in My Documents and go back, in order for the + sign to appear. I know this does not seem like a huge problem, but I work with a lot of graphics and it becomes tedious. Does anyone know what caused this and how it can be fixed?

Jan 20, 2007When I try to open a folder of a program it doesn't work. I click the folder and the mouse changes to the mouse and hourglass picture but nothing happens after that. Sometimes I get that error sound but no message pops up. Then the title on the title bar of my applications goes blank and I no longer can click the menu that says file, edit, view,It highlights it but it won't let me click it. I also cannot right click anymore and when I try to reset my computer, it highlights it but I can't click that either.I also can't open the task manager when it happens nor can I type in my address bar or open a new tab for my browser.. I tried running a virus scan but it catch anything so I have no idea what I can do. I've tried system restore but that didn't fix it.

Sep 27, 2010i have a folder on my desktop that is not empty but when i try to open it (via GUI or command line) it will not. i get "the file or directory is corrupted and unreadable" and it wants me to run check disk. when i do, i then get an application error on boot up. so i boot in safe mode with command line and disable check disk on boot up so i can get back into windows with no problem however the folder is still there and unable to open and/or delete. fsutil tells me that the c drive is dirty, but i just can't clean it.how can i delete "C:Documents and SettingsusernameDesktopNew Folder"?

Apr 7, 2008The default display pictures on my user accounts are gone (E.g. Skateboarder and Rubber Ducky). They just became the chess pieces picture, but then again, when I try to change them, all I can select from are my own pictures, the default ones are gone.
Also, "Shared Documents" became "Documents". When I try to open it, I can only find subfolders such as "My Music" which are empty, every single file I saved there is gone. I think they are deleted from the hard drive now? Because I noticed the space has increased by a few gigabytes, without uninstalliung anything.

Whenever I try to change this to My Documents, it immediately reverts back to username's Documents.However, if I open a command window and say dir, I see My Documents which is what I would expect.

Doesn't Reboot - Safemode Doesn't Work
Jan 15, 2008Was never able to restart after that. Normal boot shows the windows initial screen, but eventually just restarts, safe mode does the same thing whether it's with network, command line or plain safe mode. Last known good configuration does the same.Needed to use a file so decided to remove the HD and re-install to another PC. I did have access to the file in question but now I'd like to fix the problem.
The other system uses AVG. I started a scan and it detected Cekar.d (A0003977.exe, wdfmgr.exe and initially ntldr.exe), Dropper.Inor (ntdetect.hta, A0003979.hta), PSW.Generic5.ABVW (ctfmona.exe), PSW.OnlineGames.AAFI (ctfmonb.exe), PSW.Generic5.AFYK (ctfmond.exe), PSW.OnlineGames.ZWT (LotusHlp.exe) and some others but for whatever reason the scan stopped. I restarted it and now the AV still finds most of the threats it was seeing before but not Cekar.d. in the ntldr.exe file.

When I try to delete it, it says: "Cannot delete FOLDERNAME: The directory is not empty." if I try and open the folder it says: "F:Folderfolder is not accessible. Oct 25, 2008We lost electricity for about 2/10ths of a second. My son was on the computer when it happened. The computer shut off and came back on. When it resumed, we were unable to connect to the internet. The first thing I did was check the Network Connections folder. To my dismay.This happened several months ago, and I was not able to fix anything and ended up using my 9 HP recovery disks. All I could find on the net seemed to involve fixing connections that you could see in the folder. I did a restore to the day before. Nothing. I did a system restore which put all the crap back on my computer that I don't need but still did not get me anything in my connections folder. I used the network connection wizard which says my broadband is working fine but won't connect. I checked my network adapters which were all working fine (although always hidden, is that normal?) When I did the system restore, it removed several network adapters, but since I don't have anything in the connections folder to connect, it doesn't really matter at this point.

Apr 2, 2007I made the change below however, if I click on a folder in the left hand "Folders" pane, it works as before and opens the folder and displayed in the contents in the right hand pane.
However, if I click on any folders in the right hand (files pane) a new windows explorer window opens a displays the "my documents".
The same thing happens if you click on a shortcut to a folder. Instead of the folder opening, it opens a new window and displays "my documents".
This problems started when I added a new function to the folder file folder file type properties to print out the contents of a folder by calling a batch file that piped the content to a file.
In the file association for file folders in the advanced section I now have three functions
- the afore mentioned 'create file list'
- explore (the default), and
- find
For the folder file type I just have:
- explore and
- open
Any suggestions on how to put things back to the way Windows Explorer always worked before make clicking folders in the right hand pane open them up properly in the same window as per clicking them on the left hand pane?

What I'm trying to do is make a simple batch file that creates a folder, throws a bunch of files with the same extenstion into it, and then zips it up- but without a command line version of the built-in windows zip program this will be impossible (through batch file anyway).
