View 9 Replies View RelatedI work at a Job Corps Center where we have three clerical trade shops loaded with Windows XP computers. We need to install a retriction that will create an Administrator Password that can not be deleted by simply logging into safe mode. Also, we need to make it impossible for the students to create their own accounts with their own passwords. Right now the teachers are having a hard time, because several knuckleheads keep making a mess by changing the instructor's passwords and creating their own unique ones. How can we create those restrictions?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI need to do a clean install of Windows XP on a system that previously ran Windows 2000. I deleted the partition via the Windows Install/Setup menu, but when the PC boots, it lists Windows 2K as one of the startup/OS options. I need to be able to do an /fdisk on the whole drive and start from scratch. Unfortunately, I only have a basic Windows XP installation CD - and if there's a way to get to a prompt and do it from there, I can't remember. Could anyone direct me to a bootable CD that will allow me to /fdisk and delete and create partitions? I need something quick and fast. I'm not permitted to download or install anything without permission and my boss is out of town until Thursday. He may call in tomorrow (or he may not). So please, don't point me to Bart's PE or anything that requires installing an .ISO burner. I need to be able to do this with the tools that Windows XP, SP 2 native. These are laptops I'm working with and they do not have floppy drives, so I cannot use floppy disks.

I was trying to follow Microsoft's directions to create another drive (where I want to just store documents, pictures and music). The instructions say I am supposed to right-click on unallocated space on the C drive and then I should get some kind of partition wizard.but I have tried right-clicking everywhere!
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have just done a fresh install of XP Home on one of my computers and had quite a bit of trouble getting some drivers. Prior to doing anything else with that computer I would like to do a backup ( preferably complete ) on to a DVD(s) that will simplify an instillation if I ever end up having to reformat. If something happens down the road I would just like to install XP and then use my backup to restore it to what I have today. Any suggestions on how I should go about it and what software, free would be nice, that will allow me to do this? I hope I made myself clear as to my intentions.
View 8 Replies View Relatedit's not about changing pagefile size or moving it - all of a sudden I can't create it on my machine.
2 HD (plenty of space one each) Win XP SP3, Athlon xp2400 - 2 gig RAM.Did all the appropriate things like defrag and set all the permissions of the admin and users in Safe Mode.Doesn't matter which of the 2 drives I select, doesn't matter what size or even system managed - allocated memory is always 0. Every reboot the error 'you have no pagefile or it's too small' still comes up.I tried to use Recovery Console from my CD - but I get the message your version of Windows (SP3) is newer than the version on the CD - you will overwrite it if you re-install. So I cancel out.
I have just installed Win XP and all the drivers needed for the hardware to work plus a few games etc. Now I wonder if there is a way to make a recovery cd of all this information so I can use that CD/DVD instead of my Win xp CD if I need to reinstall the system again.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've been fiddling with my computer lately because it has lots of issues, and I came across yet another one. When I open up a folder and right click > New > Briefcase, I get this:[pop-up #1]Windows cannot ind 'C:WINDOWSsystem32, undll32.com'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the Search button, and then click Search.[pop-up #2, once I click "OK" in pop-up #1]. Unable to create the file 'New Briefcase'File system error (16389). Also when I start up my computer, I get a message identical to pop-up #1, except the file is "1". Just the number 1. It seems to be harmless though. As far as I know, the .com extension is unusual. Could it be malware/spyware?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI just booted up my HP NC6120 laptop (Win XP Pro, 512MB RAM, plent of free HDD space, etc.) to which I have administrator rights and went to log in with my normal username/password, but I get three error messages. The first one says something to the effect "cannot create temporary profile. may be caused by insufficient rights." I then have to click ok or it times out in 30 secs or something like that. After that window closes another opens saying something like "cannot load profile. logged on with default profile". Windows then appears to be loading, but I get a blank light blue screen with only a blank window w/ red error 'x' on it and nothing else. I click ok, it says it's logging me off. I am able to log into Safe Mode (typing from there now). Everything in my docments folders are still there, etc. So I created a new user account with admin rights, but get the same error messages when tring to log in normally (not via safe mode).
