So I deleted my windows partition and formatted(full not quick) my hard drive so I could start fresh for Windows since I just got a new motherboard! So I went to reinstall Windows XP Pro Corporate Ed. and when I do is says that certain files like drmclien.dll was not copied correctly. There are other files that dont copy right either(most of them are .dll but some are .sys files). My Windows disc is completely scratch free and what not and its a legit copy...I just dont know why the files are messing up like this
I am havinga very big problem with my PC. When I try to start it up normally, I get the following message; "Windows could not start because the following fileis missing or corrupt: WINDOWSSYSTEM32CONFIGSYSTEM. You can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows Setup using the original Setup CD-ROM. Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair" When I try this, it opens repair console, but then I have to select OS, and when I do this, it just comes up with the previous error. If I try to reinstall it comes up with a blue screen error and crashes.
Does anyone know how to fix a Ntfs.sys file without resorting to using the OS installation CDs? I got the message the about Windows not being able to start because of a missing or corrupt Ntfs.sys. Because I don't have the installation CDs I just copied a Ntfs.sys file off the other PC in our house put it on my flash disk and restarted the PC with this message. It booted up fine into windows but my system is unstable, it restarts at random. Sometimes it works ok and then sometimes it reboots repeatedly, and I got the message again a few times but I just press the reset button and it boots up fine again. So I am able to work in windows, can I fix the file in windows without doing that whole thing with the installation CDs and RC session?
My mother-in-law purchased a computer from V2 Premier 6 years ago. Her computer crashed and said the Windows XP is either missing or corrupt. There was not a Windows XP CD-Rom included in box with the computer. It says for repairs to insert the Windows XP CD-Rom. How does she get one sent to her from the manufacturer or from V2 Premier?
I have been searching for how to fix my son's computer which comes up with windows system32 config system - Windows could not start b/c the following file is missing or corrupt. He has a Dell and everything I've read seems to give warnings about doing recovery with a Dell. There was no OS CD with it.
Ok I have run into a major problem. First of all I entered 256 DIMM RAM into my motherboard recently and when I booted up, It said "Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: /Windows/System32/Config/System
I tried taking the RAM out and the same happens. One source said it could be the PSU, power, but this is doubtful because I unplugged all the extra stuff I could but the same happens.
Taking advice from another source, I took my XP Disc and Booted from it in hope to repair missing/corrupt files. This did no good, It deleted the "corrupt" files, and couldn't find the same files (such as dplayx.dll, dosx.exe. dos869.fon, dmdskmgr.dll, etc.) So now I think these files are gone so when I tried to boot up after this it restarts or shuts down when it reaches the Windows XP loading screen. I tried booting from the CD once again but this time an error message appeared saying:
my daughters laptop has come up with a problem and has a lot of pictures ect on it that we can no longer access, the pictures ect are poss still there as the hard drive space is still the same as before. the problem is in the system 32 area. computer states system32configsystemprofile is corrupted and unreadable have run a checkdisc but i cant seem to be able to run a checkdisc repair on it??????is there anything i can do or is there a program i can download to help do it????
It prompted for the disks and one by one i started to feed them in but when i get tI bought a second hand laptop Its a Compaq Armada with 1ghz processor 192mb ram (soon to be upgraded to 576mb) This machine came with a floppy drive only i have now bought a dvdrom for it that interchanges with floppy drive. It appears to have originally had windows 2000 on it and i would like to put xp home on it. When i turn it on this is what i get "Initializing Intel Boot Agent Version 2.6 (build004)" Then it goes to a message saying "Non-System disk or disk error replace and strike any key when ready" I have downloaded 6 boot disks from microsoft and i have a new copy of xp home. I put in the first boot disk and all seemed to be going well.
I stored family pictures on Windows 95 Zip disks and now use HP Pavilion dv 8380 Notebook PC with XP. I have installed an Iomega Zip 250 external USB port drive to open the old Zip discs and get a message that I need a Windows 95 program to do this. I don't want to mess up my current operating system, but want to move these files to my XP system.
I’m having problems with my operating system. I want to install a fresh copy of it. Can you tell me or show me step by step documentation as to how to partition my drive (or refer me to documentation as to how to do so), install a clean copy of WXP from my Dell OEM Windows XP SP1a CD into the new, empty partition, update everything necessary on it (note, again, I received the WXP SP2 CD from Microsoft by mail a few days ago), transfer any files from my current installed O.S. copy into this newly installed copy that I want to install, and then delete this current (then old, once I do this) copy of my O.S.? Are there any Microsoft documents about this? Would this be better than just reinstalling the O.S. over the one I currently have in my computer?
my Hide protected operating system files (recommended) in folder options is missing. is there any way to fix that? with regedit, maybe? my pc has just been recovered from a virus.
Does anyone know if there is a way to recover files after a fresh install of the operating system? I suffered a bad virus that disrupted my registry to the point where the computer was unusable. The only solution was a fresh re-install of XP.
Attempt to install XP Pro on a new hard drive, towards the finish I get errors cannot copy various files, although I'm trying 2 different new XP Pro CD's, and reformatted the drive after unsuccessful attempts. The CD drive has never been malfunctioned before.
i installed an operationg system (service pack 3, but if i want to copy a file either from desktop or any where,i do klick on the right side of the mouse and shose ( send to ),and i dont see hard disks among the lists of where to send to,while i have 2 hard disks installed
I have a problem that is more irritating than serious. Every time Windows XP starts a window opens displaying the contents of the folder Program Files. It doesn't take more than a second or two to close the window but I find it frustrating that I am unable to prevent it from happening. I suspect that the answer lies somewhere in the Register but I have no idea where.
I woke up one day (hadn't installed anything in the meantime) and was unable to drag any icons or folders. My mouse won't "pick up" any of them, on my desktop or within a folder. I can drag program windows around, so I don't think it's an issue with my mouse. I thought maybe a recent Windows Update had messed it up, so I uninstalled the most recent one, but it didn't do anything.
I tried searching for this topic but I didn't find anything, though it may be that I didn't look carefully enough. What's happening is that Windows Explorer has recently been making my desktop icons disappear, and in some cases my taskbar as well. When I open the program, particularly when I have removable media connected, my desktop icons revert to the placeholder image, and gradually the correct images return to each. It can take some time for all the icons to return to normal. Additionally, when I close Windows Explorer, the desktop icons vanish altogether, and wherever they go, the take the taskbar with them. The wallpaper remains completely untouched. Any open windows I have will remain onscreen and responsive, infact while I'm waiting for the return of my taskbar I can browse the Web to pass the time. But if I minimize a window that's it until the return of my taskbar, which usually occurs within 5 minutes or less, along with the gradual return of all the icons as described above. My system scans clean for malware, and Norton's WinDoctor doesn't find anything. Any suggestions? This is, at the very least, inconvenient, if not downright worrisome. I'd feel better if I knew whether it was even normal.
Strange occurance on a machine today. There was nothing wrong with the rig running XP Pro. I was testing a BartPE bootdisk with WiFi drivers for the specific card that was on the computer. Boots up PE no prob, no joy on the NIC though, but thats not the issue. I'll fix that later. When I exited PE and restarted the machine the boot.ini had been modified. It now showed 3 instances of Windows XP (which where non existent) and when I booted into windows it had re-enabled ALL the startup programs (all but a few where disabled through msconfig) and even some previously disabled Services had been restarted. Everything else was fine, it took a bit of work to change it all back and correct the boot.ini file, but just wondering if anyone know WHY this would have happened. I cant think of anything in the PE boot that would have done that
I have a partition titled SYSTEM_SAV along with the C Drive partition on my Compaq Windows ME. Can I delete the SYSTEM_SAV partition safely with out messing out my computer when I put a clean install of Windows XP on my computer.
I'm trying to fix my friends Hp and I usually know what im doing. But here I have no idea what to do. I tried going into the bios to change the boot order to cd to format and I can't. Can anyone tell me what to do.I changed out his hard drive with mine and it does nothing. just posts and goes to a black screen instead of trying to boot and blue screening as it usually do when you change hardrives between two computers.Changed the Ide cables no luck.
I'm running XP Home SP2 on an IBM desktop OEM install. I think one of my kids may have delete some criticle files.i found a bunch of family jpegs and 2 cab files in the recycle bin. I restored all the files but have been having slow performance. I am unable to send large emails without getting memory errors if i try to access Device Manager i get the following error:MMC cannot open the file c:windowssystem32devmgmnt.msc. This may because the file does not exist, is not an MMC console, or was created by a later version of MMC. This may also be because you do not have sufficient access rights to the file. I have adminstrator rights and have tried logging in as another admiinistrator. I've reinstalled SP2 but that didn't help. Short of reinstalling XP (which would be a PITA)
I used WipeDrive to delete everything from my harddrive last night. My computer was so slow and I had restored it about a month ago but it never got rid of all the files so then it is worse than ever. Anyways, when I used the wipedrive and then reinstalled Windows XP instead of putting Windows XP into my C drive it put it into I drive. Why would it have done that and how can I get it back to the C drive?
I have a Dell computer using Windows XP Media Edition. Any other information you need please just ask and I will try to get it for you as best I can.
I am running a disk defrag and I get the message that not all the files could be defragmented.I ran chkdsk and repaired the errors but I would get the same message.I then copied the disk to a brand new hard drive and I get the same message form the defrag. When I go to details it refers to outlook.pst and archive.pst being the problem.I ran scanpst.exe on both files and it repaired errors.I run it again and it says no errors are found yet it still holds up defrag. What is wrong with these files and what can I do to repair them?
This happens every time.Windows XP could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: WINDOWSSYSTEM32CONFIGSYSTEMWhen I say every time, I mean every time.I just bought a new hard drive, so I know it works. When I try to install xp (full install), I go through the select drive and partition to installEverything looks good so far. Windows starts copying the installer files to the drive. After its done, it reboots. I don't push a button because I know its going to start xp setup now.
