I have installed an Iomega Zip 250 external USB port drive to open the old Zip discs and get a message that I need a Windows 95 program to do this. I don't want to mess up my current operating system, but want to move these files to my XP system.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI’m having problems with my operating system. I want to install a fresh copy
of it. Can you tell me or show me step by step documentation as to how to
partition my drive (or refer me to documentation as to how to do so), install
a clean copy of WXP from my Dell OEM Windows XP SP1a CD into the new, empty
partition, update everything necessary on it (note, again, I received the WXP
SP2 CD from Microsoft by mail a few days ago), transfer any files from my current installed O.S. copy into this newly installed copy that I want to install, and then delete this current (then old, once I do this) copy of my O.S.? Are there any Microsoft documents about this? Would this be better than just reinstalling the O.S. over the one I currently have in my computer?
XP treats Zip files like folders, to stop this type 'regsvr32 /u zipfldr.dll' at the command prompt. To reverse it type 'regsvr32 zipfldr.dll'.
View 9 Replies View RelatedSo I deleted my windows partition and formatted(full not quick) my hard drive so I could start fresh for Windows since I just got a new motherboard! So I went to reinstall Windows XP Pro Corporate Ed. and when I do is says that certain files like drmclien.dll was not copied correctly. There are other files that dont copy right either(most of them are .dll but some are .sys files). My Windows disc is completely scratch free and what not and its a legit copy...I just dont know why the files are messing up like this

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a problem that is more irritating than serious. Every time Windows XP starts a window opens displaying the contents of the folder Program Files. It doesn't take more than a second or two to close the window but I find it frustrating that I am unable to prevent it from happening. I suspect that the answer lies somewhere in the Register but I have no idea where.
View 13 Replies View RelatedWhen I try to delete the following four .tmp files, they simply reappear, causing problems with my ability to defrag. Files are dump429.tmp, dump4714.tmp, dump5b1b.tmp, dump8650.tmp. I'm also getting a stop error, and having trouble booting my system, it will only boot intermittenly, many times it simply keeps restarting and performing a disk check.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am havinga very big problem with my PC. When I try to start it up normally, I get the following message; "Windows could not start because the following fileis missing or corrupt: WINDOWSSYSTEM32CONFIGSYSTEM. You can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows Setup using the original Setup CD-ROM. Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair" When I try this, it opens repair console, but then I have to select OS, and when I do this, it just comes up with the previous error. If I try to reinstall it comes up with a blue screen error and crashes.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI woke up one day (hadn't installed anything in the meantime) and was unable to drag any icons or folders. My mouse won't "pick up" any of them, on my desktop or within a folder. I can drag program windows around, so I don't think it's an issue with my mouse. I thought maybe a recent Windows Update had messed it up, so I uninstalled the most recent one, but it didn't do anything.
View 20 Replies View RelatedXP PRO suddenly has a noticeable decrease in speed when opening programs. Takes usually 3 minutes to open any program speed is TREMENDOUSLY dimished from last startup. Tried rebooting, ran a program called CLEANER, it deleted temp explorer files, other garbage. But still ridiculously slow opening programs, etc. I have NORTON upto date, also spybot, and adaware all show nothing.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI installed two installations of windows xp on accident on my laptop hard drive.I tried to do a repair install but the cd I used was a silent install cd for windows and I forgot it was.So I ended up with two windows XP installs on my hard drive, both on partition C.The folders on the C drive are C:WINDOWS and C:WINDOWS.0. Both load with its own set of programs for it, one has games and other software on it, the other has basic software on the install CD. Both had firefox on it which caused problems with firefox losing my settings/links and not keeping them.I have thunder bird email on my 2nd installation but I can't access it with my first windows install. What I want to do is delete the 2nd version of windows which I don't use. I am not sure if its C:WINDOWS or C:WINDOWS.0.The newer one shows up first in the OS menu when I first boot my computer.

View 7 Replies View RelatedWhen I start up whether in SAFE Mode or Normal I automatically get the Confirm Delete Message. This applies to programs, icons, photos, documents , folders etc - I cannot get to any of my work to back it up. I have tried Stinger -F-Force and W32.Blackmal@mm Removal Tools. Ran a full AVG scan with uptodate anti virus and Adaware Spyware. Sorry forgot to mention other things tried. The Pop up message does not appear in the Task Manger either as applications or processes. Each time you respongd NO to negate the delete it pops up again. There is no way I can get to any of my folders or files to burn to a CD as backup without the Confirm Delete message.

The files and folders that I am addressing are: C:WINDOWSTEMP*.* *.OLD *.CHK *.BAK ~*.* _*.* and MSCREATE.DIRI have managed to clean all but one, which is _*.* When I run the search, I get the result of 144 files. I click on edit, select all, then file, delete. I receive the following error "cannot delete file: Cannot read the source file or disk" (please view screen shot). When I right click, I have no delete option, just "open containing folder, copy, and extract. (please view screen shot). I have run AdAware, Spybot, Ewido, and Avg Free. I even used dir /A:H to included hidden files and there are none. But I can still see them in Windows XP PRO. I have Norton 360 and it did not find any viruses. Went I try to delete them windows gives no errors. Some of the files even have the same name and extension. Is there a cache or a temp file I need to delete first?

I tried popping in the windows xp disc that came with the laptop, boot from disc, it starts up but then after loading everything, it then says "Windows is starting up" the disc stops spinning then nothing happens. I tried popping in a windows vista disc and it says "Windows is loading files" with a progress bar, when it fills up, I get stuck with a blank black screen the disc stops spinning and then nothing happens.
Some time ago I booted up my computer,to find that my XP switched to Windows classic style,I didn't take it seriously so I went to properties to change when I get an error message saying there is a problem with run32.dll,not only that, but the visual styles can't load I assume, becuase of run32.dll,so now I'm stuck with the piece of s*** style.
