Computer Running Slow While Copying DVD's To Hard Disk?
Oct 22, 2008I have a Windowa XP laptop by Gateway, when I copy DVD's everything I do on my computer gets very slow.Is there anything that I can do to speed up computer so that I can run other programs at the same time?

May 1, 2007It says that TOTAL SIZE = 39 GB And Free Space = 5 GB Which means that the size of all files on C is 34 GB But when I select all files including Hidden files and Right Click> Properties, its size of all files is only 27 GB.I did clear recycle bin and disk defragmenter C, but still the same. So why is that?

Sep 20, 2009I have two hard disks in my computer. one is a 40gb and other 160gb.the 40gb HDD has been partitioned into two @roughly 20Gb each, with xp installed on one of them.I'm running windows XP sp3 which is installed in the C: drive(roughly 20Gb). The problem tat i face is that windows reports the free size to be only 988mb.When i check into the file properties of all the files it reports to be around 5GB, i have no idea where the remaning 15gb is gone.

I checked my C: drive and noticed that I only had 500mb left, I know for a fact that I had 700+/-mb left last night before going to bed. Thinking this was a mistake I left it and carried on normally. For example, if I click on an application from the desktop it will sit there for 10-20 seconds before anything happens. Occasionally I'll click multiple times on something and nothing will happen then 30 seconds later it will open multiple instances of things. Dec 9, 2006Hey guys, I don't have the computer in front of me, but my mom's computer is working really slowly, and it's had the defragger ran on it, and according to Ad-Aware and AVG it's clean, so what could possibly be making it run so slowly? If you absolutely have no idea, I'll try to get a hijackthis log for it, but as I said, Ad-Aware and AVG didn't find anything wrong with it there, and I ran the defrag on it the other day and it didn't help at all. Plenty of space left on the HD, so I have no idea what is going on....except that maybe the computer is a lemon. They've had problems with it since pretty soon after they bought it, but it's just progressively gotten worse.

Apparently, I connected the HDD enclosure to a USB 1.1 port and XP advised me I could get better performance by connecting it to a USB 2.0 port.After some time, XP reported an error indicating it couldn't save E:$Mft (E: is the drive letter assigned to the external enclosure) due to a lazy write problem.I disconnected the external drive enclosure from the system and put it back in the laptop and when I boot the machine, it displays the "starting windows" screen, the progress bar goes to the end, and the machine reboots itself.
