computer running XP is turning itself on at 1:00PM after being placed in hibernate. The scheduler had items for this time (which I am now changing). Isn't the computer completely OFF when hibernated? What mechanism does it have for turning itself on if the CPU supposedly is powered down?

I clicked the fans in the back of the computer and ran all spyware everything OK.Sometimes a screen comes up saying physcial memory dump taking place, and then suggesting perhaps i've installed or uninstalled a program incorrectly.I don't know what else to do ...is my hard drive kicking the bucket?

The startup process just stops, the screen stays black, the hard disk drive goes quiet and the activity light stays on (rather than the normal flickering).All I can do when this happens is hold down the power button until the power goes off.Also, when it does startup properly, after logging into XP it takes an unusually long time to load the settings,startup programs, etc and sometimes some of the normal system tray icons dont appear at all

have run defrag, and disk cleanup (defrag took over 8 hours to complete used to run Mcafee AV pro, Firewall and Spamkiller, have removed all mcafee products.
My computer has been working fine. But all of a sudden my computer started hanging. Im sure it's not viruses or anything because I have ran many scans over and over.I have no clue what could be causing this. I've included my HJT log even though I've looked it over many a times and have found nothing.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI don't have an easy way of backing up all the data, as I can't move and copy files, and the largest USB key/SD card I have right now is 512MB. I can't directly move files, the way I've found to work around this problem is to put all the files I want in a zip file and then extract it into the location I want.
So she doesn't want to format if possible, and I would really like to know what caused this problem, although it seems like 1 problem that spawned into many, as if someone took control of the computer and started disabling things. Any ideas would very much be appreciated
recently i have noticed my computer has started to slow down, when i start the comp the system tray items used to apear immediately but now is soo slow.windows firewall is off..i dont know if the slowness is a result of installing Music Match? but the computer has surely become slower on startup.i did however have some spyware on my comp which i removed, this was a result of installing a trial version of ZoneAlarm 6.5 WHICH IS SOOO UNSTABLE...

Settings in power options are correct (I think) and the hibernation is turned on. I looked in the properties settings on the wireless adapter and there is no power management tab.

The system hangs forever at "Saving Your Settings" when I try to shutdown or reboot, It hangs when I try to run Windows Update, and if I try to schedule a chkdsk run on C: it claims to have scheduled it, but when I reboot, nothing happens (other than booting, that is). It almost acts like the registry has become read-only.Is there some way I can boot that will allow me to manually run chkdsk on C:? View 8 Replies View RelatedAfter a huge upgrade and fresh XP installation (up to SP2), my computer won't standby hibernate. The only parts that remained were the HDs, RAID card, and power supply. MOBO was upgraded to X38, GPU to GF8800GT, and CPU is now Dual Core. Prior to the upgrade, my PC could go into standby. Now it is "grayed out."I went to power management, hibernation tab is not there. I tried reinstalling MOBO drivers, same thing. My comp used to be able to do this in XP. Well, I read about it, and supposedly, dual core cannot go into standby (or at least winxp doesn't want to allow the user to do this with DualC). Is that true? Edit: I even tried the hotfix and disabling terminal services. No effect.I tried apmstat -v, and it said that this is an ACPI machine and that APM is not relevant.

The Partner who installed it wrote a batch file, which works fine, but he put it in the Scheduler and it never runs. I did the obvious, checked for correct user name and password, etc. The process kicks off, says it is working, but never terminates and does not actually run the batch file. I was wondering if I could schedule a task to disable the internet or block traffic using my norton.When I go to schedule a task it only allows me to open a program. To schedule something like what i'm talking about, I would probably have to create a program of some kind that combined all the actions into one thing. Maybe using notepad or whatever.I don't know anything about programing, so can I get some help? Any advice? Other alternatives? Am I being to careful?
