View 2 Replies View RelatedSince the last 4-5 days my computer has been shutting down by itself. No warning nothing at all. Just Kaput.I mean windows doesn't show shut down message either. Also I feel it has something to do with my power settings( which are set down to never shut down/hibernate/standby), but I feel that if I leave it idle for some time.. that's when it goes.. if I keep working, it'll stay on.What's more, I think it started after an adobe flash player update( or maybe a windows update, both happened at the same time. Some kinda software distribution service 3.0).. System restore is not working either.I'm running Windows XP home on a compaq 2500 series laptop with P IV 2.4 Gigs processor, 512 mb RAM and 120 GB IDE HDD.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI had a bad virus on my computer and I wanted to boot it into safe mode. So I tried and everytime I tried it wouldn't work. I kept getting this message on a blue screen saying my video driver failed to initialize and it shut down automatically but it would boot up normal if I didn't try to go into safe mode.So I read that you could set your computer to automatically boot into safe mode from msconfig so I went in and set it to boot into safe mode automatically every time I powered up. So I turned off my computer and tried to.No matter what I do, no matter what option I select the blue screen with the error about my video driver comes up and it shuts down automatically.
View 14 Replies View RelatedA while ago, I posted a problem about my computer shutting down and throught I had it fixed after scanning/removing spyware and running disk check. But the last few days it's been happening again. It just shuts down while I'm working on something, either surfing the net, working in psp, working in windows movie maker, checking email, etc. Then I can't turn it back on by pushing the button on the tower. When I look in the back of the tower, the green light for the power isn't on, so I have to push the power cord in and out and jiggle it around a bit to get the green light to turn on and the computer to start up. What could be wrong?

Settings in power options are correct (I think) and the hibernation is turned on. I looked in the properties settings on the wireless adapter and there is no power management tab.

View 14 Replies View RelatedThis system, for whatever reason, is having some weird issues.
1. Applications keep shutting down
2. The computer randomly shuts off
3. Computer screen will go black, and the cursor will turn into a larger cursor like the cursor looks like when it is in safe mode, and I won't even be able to move the cursor; the fans also started kicking in when it did this as if it were starting to work really hard (only did this once).I've scanned for viruses and spyware. It was relatively clean. Then I did a sfc /scannow. Seemed to work for a while, but now it's acting weird again.
my computer comes on and appears to be starting up with the windows showing up but then shuts down before starting completely.
View 1 Replies View RelatedRecently Ive been having a problem when shutting down windows. I have XP. When I shutdown my computer it goes to the blue screen and says your Computer is Shutting down. Like normal the computer makes a little clicking noise like it does when it usually shuts down but the fans and stuff are still running and it doesn't shut down all the way. The screen still says Windows is shutting down and the light on the computer stops blinking. How can I fix this?
View 9 Replies View RelatedThis has been an ongoing problem now for about a month. Every so often and usually when I'm playing a game, my computer will abruptly shut off. Because it seemed to happen while playing games, I assumed it was my EVGA GeForce 9800 card that was causing the shutdown. However, last night I was just mindlessly surfing and I had the same issue. When I tried to restart, it took a few times before it 'took' this has happend before in the past when the computer has abruptly crashed as for the GeForce, I've uninstalled the drivers and reinstalled.I've also checked to see if it's the fans, but they all seem to be working fine, no obstructions. Is it possible that with it being summer, the room might be getting too hot and in turn causing the computer to run hotter than usual? I don't keep the air on all the time in that room as it's a window unit and I'm conserving energy.

View 8 Replies View RelatedAfter a huge upgrade and fresh XP installation (up to SP2), my computer won't standby hibernate. The only parts that remained were the HDs, RAID card, and power supply. MOBO was upgraded to X38, GPU to GF8800GT, and CPU is now Dual Core. Prior to the upgrade, my PC could go into standby. Now it is "grayed out."I went to power management, hibernation tab is not there. I tried reinstalling MOBO drivers, same thing. My comp used to be able to do this in XP. Well, I read about it, and supposedly, dual core cannot go into standby (or at least winxp doesn't want to allow the user to do this with DualC). Is that true? Edit: I even tried the hotfix and disabling terminal services. No effect.I tried apmstat -v, and it said that this is an ACPI machine and that APM is not relevant.
