Clean Installoperating System - Drivers Wont Update Now
Sep 7, 2009
i have a old dell demension 3000 desktop, recently it was struck with a couple viruses (pc antispyware 2010)i saved all my files and decided to do a clean install.a couple drivers were missing:Network Adapter Ethernet controller Multi Media Controller Video Controller (VGA)i couldn't get online so i plugged in a USB wireless adapter to try and get online to download these drivers. (BTW the att modem is attached to this computer.)i tried updating each driver and it just searches and comes up with nothing. So i went to the Dell site and looked up which drivers to DL, i DL them and it just saves to my desktop as a application file.

I've been getting a lot of BSOD on my XP notebook (P4 3ghz, 784 ram). Sometimes it will say an ACPI.sys error, or a Bad Pool Caller, etc.I've done some looking and it seems it's a bad driver (well, other posts say that). How do you go about finding which driver it is? There's gotta be 100s of them.....

I purchased a SIIG PCI firmware adapter. It has no drivers and says that it will use Win XP drivers. Well I installed the board and booted the pc, Win XP
recognized the hardware but could not find any drivers. I tried unplugging it manually, installing it in another card slot with no luck. I took it back to
my pc dealer and he plugged it in his system and had no problems. I decide to try another brand, an IO Gear GIC1394.

A friends HP Media Center PC m7077c crashed. Had no recover disk, etc. Installed XP Pro SP2 and I need drivers (according to Device Manager). No sound is obvious but video controller is not. Video seems okay. Where do I find drivers for this machine. XP Pro, Home and MCE are different OS's ... as far as my experience. The drivers are not the same.

My computer is an 9 month old Dell Celeron with cable internet. Lately its slow as &%$#. The browsers. I have several. Fire Fox, Netscape and IE. And I've cleared out my cookies. I don't have any silly things installed like screen savers or whatever. I think a good system clean up would help but I'm fearfull of deleting something important. Some one told me someone here helped her clean up her system.

This is not so much a problem as a request for help and advice. I have had my system now for around a year and have uninstalled and re installed alot of games and programs. Ive noticed i have accumulated quite alot of files in various places which i probably dont need so i was wondering if theres a program or method out there to get rid of this rubbish. I am already using registry mechanic (latest version) and ccleaner but have noticed there are still bits left in the registry which dont look like there doing anything. Any help on cleaning out my pc and maybe making it run a bit faster by maybe disabling or removing parts.

I want to use a Defrag programe in order to clean up my computer (truse me, I really need to clean it up...). Now I have a programe called "UltimateDefrag", and I'm running a defrag using this programe as we speak. Also, since I'm not sure about this programe, I've taken a look in the programe manual, and I could bearly understand enough to run a defarg using this programe.

I currently run PC-Cillin anti virus, and have Ad-Aware SE, Spybot - Search & Destroy, and SpywareBlaster to help keep my PC clean. I would like some suggestions on other programs that you might recommend, or if these would suffice to keep my PC clear of viruses, malware, and spyware.I would also like to know if anyone has any information about Registry Mechanic. Specifically if it is worth while in any way, as it was recommended to my by a friend.

I'm going to be building a new system in a few weeks and I am debating as to whether I should install XP-64 as the OS or (shudder) finally buy Vista. When I built my last computer a few years ago I bought a student copy of Windows XP Pro that came with both the 32-bit version and the 64-bit version (different CD's / keys). At the time there were no 64-bit drivers available for some of my hardware so I just used 32-bit XP and the 64-bit version has been sitting on my shelf unused ever since. Now it appears that the driver situation with regards to XP-64 is much better although I have heard that there are still some issues with certain hardware and programs.

I recently reinstalled windows xp pro and now the "system" proccess is always using all free cpu. It's not "system idle proccess" just system. After installing right off the xp pro disk, all i did was install the updates up to and through SP2, my motherboard drivers, video drivers, winamp and AIM. Other than that, nothing else has been done, yet system is still using all free cpu.I checked to make sure all drivers were current.

Asus A8S-X Socket 939 Motherboard
AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ Socket 939 CPU
Biostar GeForce 7300 LE supp. 256MB PCIe
I used the old hard drive which was loaded with windows XP pro and when the system was ready, I configured all the new drivers. I'm afraid I have some corrupt system files but really don't know how to proceed to take care of it.

Windows XP, that is. Well, if I am not completely mistaken, hard drives do not need any drivers to work. Right? I mean, I bought a new HDD (Samsung HD753LJ) and I can see it, use it and all... But Windows STILL asks me to install it (you know, the "new device found"-thing) every time I restart my PC. I've told it to "don't ask to install this device again"
