I lost my connection on one of the computers (my son's) and tried to resolve through Linksys. There had been a very weak signal to the computer for a few months prior to losing the connection altogether and, the Linksys tech rep. thought that my drivers and Windows XP updates were probably not updating properly. He recommended connecting the computer directly to the router and updating from there. Just before trying this, I rebooted the system and received the following error

View 6 Replies View RelatedI was wondering if someone could help me with a little problem I have. When I install service pack 2 or anything past sp2, it does something with my video card. Normally everything runs fine until I try to play one of my PC games (for instance Half Life 2) then either the computer freezes up, or the monitor goes black and stops receiving a signal from the video card. I know that it's not a hardware issue because running off of a fresh windows install with no updates and sp1 everything's fine, but sp2 or later causes problems with my video card, I've tried updating everything (windows, hardware etc....) nothing works except running it with no updates and sp1, and as you know you cannot run much without sp2 at least. Any help would be appreciated, I've also attached a .txt with my specs from dxdiag.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI got this used pc with 2000 pro in it. I was just getting used to Windows 98SE and didn't like the 2kP, so I installed my 98SE too. Besides having to track down the graphics program and audio driver, all went smoothly. Since the, I've been under the impression that I was running 98SE OS...until I added a cd/rw that keeps insisting that I must be the administrator to burn anything for Nemo.
So today, I naively went into the start-up Bios thinking I was going to just do a C:
einstall of Windows 98SE and get rid of all that unwanted system. Ha Ha.
Ok...So, ideally I'd like to get this 2000 software out of here and make it completely 98SE...or maybe get in there and become the administrator. I do seem to have a 2000 Pro Installation CD and somewhere I have 3 (I think) HP recovery disks.
When I tried to do the C:Win98 re-install, needless to say, all this did was go on ahead and boot-up from the hard disk (I assume). I couldn't get the "pick an option" boot-up screen at all.
I'm sick to death of this pc's lack of functionality so I want to upgrade it. I want to (if possible): Add more RAM Add a second HDD (120-160GB) Install XP Home Is there any way, short of opening the case, I can check what needs to be checked eg. if there's a free memory slot, what kind of memory to use, what kind of HDD will work etc. Also, where is the best place to buy? Do I want to pick up an OEM or upgrade XP? Are the components region specific?

The T43 will pick up my external firewire hard drive but my Lacie d2 Dual DVD +RW drive wont pick up on my machine what to do? I dont want to buy USB one as money is problem.DVD burner. I was asked to locate the ethernet port at the back of my printer, plug the ethernet port cable and connect it to the Verizon router. Unfortunately, my printer does not have an ethernet port. I was told to call HP,and I did but did not get much help.What should I do to get my wireless printer work? I have a PC and a laptop. Prior to Verizon, I have a DSL and Vonage, both routers and print server did not have the same problem.

After doing all the Microsoft Updates, ALL the wireless driver installs from Gateway there is no 'Wireless Network Connection' icon. I have also checked Device Manager and there is no wireless adapter. Before this exercise she was running wireless fine. It does work 'hard wired' but no wireless icon.

View 10 Replies View RelatedWe have two laptops and one wireless (HP Photosmart C7280) printer. Our laptops both connect to the internet wirelessly through a router. I was able to install and can print wirelessly from my laptop (a Mac) with no problems. However, we cannot figure out how to print wirelessly from my boyfriend's laptop (a Dell). We have installed the printer software and the printer itself on his laptop, and the laptop is able to identify the wireless printer over the network. We made sure that the printer is set to "online" and that file/printer sharing is turned on. But, whenever we go to print any kind of a file, we get an error message simply stating that the printer was unable to print and that we should run the troubleshooter. So, we run the troubleshooter, and we get this message:"The troubleshooter was not able to ping (detect a connection with) your print server. This might be the cause of the problem. Verify that your network is configured correctly and that you are connected to the network."
I am more used to working with Macs and my boyfriend is computer illiterate, so we're a bit lost as to what this means. I was able to set up a wireless network connection on his laptop, but beyond that I'm not sure what else to do. Most of the other advice I've seen online involves a wireless printer that is wired to one computer, and another laptop trying to wirelessly access that printer through the connected computer...if that makes any sense. Our printer isn't wired to anything, and we just can't figure out why it'll print wirelessly on the Mac but not on the Dell laptop. Any ideas?
I have aproblem with my XP machine.when i boot up the small wireless icon says its not connected,Also when i click to view available wireless networks that there are none in range, i reboot the pc and it might resolve it .More often than not it doesnt.Also i sometimes get a yellow exclamation mark over the wlan in device manager.I update the driver and it resolves until next time i boot back up the pc.Wireless switch is on. My 2 other pcs wrk perfect.

View 14 Replies View RelatedIf i log onto my computer and just go into network connections, the computer is not able to look for wireless networks. if i hit the button to find networks, it gives me some strange error message. i have noticed though that i can fix the problem if i manually go into services and start the wireless zero configuration service myself. i configured this service to start automatically, and to keep restarting if attempts to start fail, but for whatever reason, the service does not start on its own when i boot the computer. once i start the service, i am able to connect without any problems.
The error message i get says something about finding more than one wirless device. i have a belkin usb wireless card, and before i installed the one i have now, i had another that coincidentally was the same size and also made by belkin. thinking that maybe some software was still on the computer, causing it to find both, and consequently not being able to connect to either, i uninstalled all the software for both routers and deleted all the related program files off of the computer. then i reinstalled and...got the same exact problem.

Does anyone know of a third-party solution, or, for that matter, a Microsoft solution to this problem. I guess that what it would mean is to have the window scaled down to fit the size of the PDA display, in this case a Dell Axim X5.

I setup openVPN on one Windows PC and opened the ports on the router.
When I log in to openVPN I get an error when using a Windows PC as the client.
status=55 The specified network device or resource is no longer available.
I have seen this error on other forums by searching but no fixes for it.
My son can log in and see the network using linux, so it must be an XP problem.
Alright this is the first time I see something like this:i am working on a client's pc an I cannot connect to the internet.
PC specs: Compaq, Presario M2000. XP HOme.
Both the Local and Wireless connection gave a message saying the network didn't assign the computer an IP Address.So I went to Properties, Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and manually assigned both the IP address, Subnet Mask and Dafault Gateway, so now the Local area it's connected and the wireless too (with excelletn signal). but I am not able to go online yet
I was testing my FTP server tonight and when I connect to the home directory there's two folders that show up (RECYCLER and System Volume Information) in the home directory that shouldn't be there. When I go into my home directory in Windows Explorer these folders don't show up there, even if I choose to show the hidden files. If I can't get these folders to show up in Windows Explorer I can't exclude them from showing up in my FTP Server software. Is it possible that they show up in my FTP client because I'm connecting to the same machine the server is on? That's all I can come up with.
