I just formatted my computer last night and after I reinstalled XP Pro it started showing 2 same OS's to pick from when I start up the computer. I went back into the XP setup and looked for any extra partitions but there is only one so why is this extra XP showing up
Wwhen I start my computer up my Kazaa folder pops up along with all my regular start up programs. I had uninstalled Kazaa, but this folder keeps appearing at start up. Tried to change my normal startup to selective by checking it off, but it still shows up.
Im trying to find out how to reboot my computer.I currently had windows XP Pro and I deleted something I needed by accident and then restarted. That's when it stopped working all it does is bring up the background pic and no icons or start bar. I have a win Xp pro disc but it doesn't do anything it doesn't pick it up for nothing so i was wondering how to make it pick it up manually ?
When I turn my computer on it opens in my documents. I have no desktop icons and no start menu. The only thing I see is my desktops background picture. When it opens in my documents, I can click on my desktop and the items are in there, so I can access the internet that way. When I shut down the computer, I hit ctrl+alt+del, and shut it down or restart it from there.
I got this used pc with 2000 pro in it. I was just getting used to Windows 98SE and didn't like the 2kP, so I installed my 98SE too. Besides having to track down the graphics program and audio driver, all went smoothly. Since the, I've been under the impression that I was running 98SE OS...until I added a cd/rw that keeps insisting that I must be the administrator to burn anything for Nemo. So today, I naively went into the start-up Bios thinking I was going to just do a C: einstall of Windows 98SE and get rid of all that unwanted system. Ha Ha. Ok...So, ideally I'd like to get this 2000 software out of here and make it completely 98SE...or maybe get in there and become the administrator. I do seem to have a 2000 Pro Installation CD and somewhere I have 3 (I think) HP recovery disks. When I tried to do the C:Win98 re-install, needless to say, all this did was go on ahead and boot-up from the hard disk (I assume). I couldn't get the "pick an option" boot-up screen at all.
I'm sick to death of this pc's lack of functionality so I want to upgrade it. I want to (if possible): Add more RAM Add a second HDD (120-160GB) Install XP Home Is there any way, short of opening the case, I can check what needs to be checked eg. if there's a free memory slot, what kind of memory to use, what kind of HDD will work etc. Also, where is the best place to buy? Do I want to pick up an OEM or upgrade XP? Are the components region specific?
I recently installed VPN client on my windows XP sp3 pc, and I started to experience network issues. My can no longer pick up any wireless signals. I see no wireless network available. My wire network does not appear to be working either. Is anyone else experiencing the same problem,

I have looked through several threads about this problem and have tried the solutions suggested but so far no success. I hope someone maybe able to come up with something.I have XP Professional installed. On Control Panel/Regional & Language Options/Languages/Details/Advanced the "turn off advanced text services" always seems to get rechecked. Even if you uncheck it the language bar on the task bar does not appear (even though it is ticked on Taskbar/right-click/Toolbars). If the Language bar option becomes available on Control Panel/Regional & Language Options/Languages/Details/Settings, when you open it all the Language Bar Settings are greyed out.
When my computer turns on, only the background shows up. No taskbars or icons are there and the only way to run anything is using the task manager. Does anyone have any idea what to do?
I am going to try to explain this as best I can. This is a friends computer. She has this sewing machine that has a memory stick that she plugs into her computer. As you can see on the 1st screen shot "removable Drive L" is NOT present. It used to show but it does not show anymore. She sad that she clicked on "EJECT DISC", and now Removable Drive L " does not show UNLESS she has the memory stick plugged in as you can see in the 2nd screen shot. So she is wanting to know how she can get "removable Drive L" to show up again, like drives. G,H,I and J. I am asking her for more information because now that I look at these screen shots, I see in the 2nd one that she actually is showing "6" Removable drives.
I'm sorry for posting so many questions here. But my Windows XP operating sytem isn't displaying icons when I download new items. Instead I have to right click > properties > change icon > OK. Instead of automatically installing the icon, it shows this:on the desktop. It displayed a similar image for virtually everything in the start menu too. This meant I had to install every single icon in the start bar menu manually! What is causing this? How can I fix it so it automatically displays icons for newly installed items?
I have inspiron 9200 with win xp home SP2.Some of the images and some flash and java applications dont run or open in my browser (Internet explorer or firefox i have tried both but nothing works. For example the main yahoo logo at the top of yahoo.com does not open in my browser.

I can't seem to get much information on wacko.gif Just built a new rig that is running XP x64 with latest drivers and updates, specs are below. Installed my otf's (openType fonts) and have tried 2 different type managers (Extensis Suitcase and FontAgent Pro 4) to get my fonts to activate and they are not activating.
This lead me to check the windows font folder and I noticed that any OTF in the folder was not showing up in my applications (photoshop etc). So I double click on the fonts and I am getting a "the requested file /path to font/ was not a valid font file" message. I installed the fonts directly from my cd so I know the fonts are valid.
I'm having a 512MB RAM,but when i check it in my system properties it's showing 448MB RAM,below that its written PHYSICAL ADDRESS EXTENSION.But when i check it BIOS screen its showing 512MB RAM.

I am running Dell Inspiron laptop with xp professional I wish to make a presentation using a Hitachi CP-X345 LCD projector.I want to project a slideshow of pictures and also view on my laptop simultaneously from a .jpg picture file on my harddrive. File is in "my Pictures".I have no trouble in opening this picture file and running a slideshow using Windows picture and fax viewer on my laptop. I cannot get the projector to show anything other than my desktop background. I have tried F5 and also Fn crt/lcd on the F8 key.
I have tried to fool around with display settings but to no avail. I cannot even get my desktop with icons projected.
why when I go to pull up a tech article or some such document that has images as part of the article, the images only show as a box with an "X"? The images tend to support the explanation of the text, but they aren't there. Is there a box within Windows Explorer or something in my Zone Alarm that I have to set in order to get these to show properly?
I used to be able to see the little icons for the .cur and .ani files when I looked at the Cursor folder in C:Windows. The files themselves are still there and I can use them in the Mouse Pointers setting in Control Panel, but now the icons are all the same IN THE EXPLORER DISPLAY: a bland pointer with a star at the end of it on a piece of paper background. At first, I thought maybe it was a setting in Folder Options in Control Panel, but I realized it's not a matter of file associations. I don't need to open them except in the Mouse Pointers setting, which as I said works.
I have a Dell (Intel Pentium 4, 256MB RAM)Running Windows XP Home Edition.I recently had a Spamware/Virus situation (which I'm still working on fixing, with the help of instructions i found in the Spyware forum - Thanks!) which has caused a whole whack of little problems. I've figured out a couple (re-enabled Registry Editing; re-enabled Task Manager; Re-enabled "Display" in control panel), but there are 2 i can't figure out:When I go into "My Computer", my C: Drive is no longer listed. The "Log Off" button no longer appears on the Start menu. Only the "Turn off Computer" button is there.
